If my memory serves, Stein reported a number of weeks ago that the Mavs do NOT have interest in Turner.

I just have trouble seeing Turner as an option. Having both Turner (if not extended) and Wood as expiring contracts would be worrisome too. Do we really want to tie up 45-50 million in cap space in centers? Now I know Wood can play 4, but I think end of games he is probably a 5, I think. Maybe it would mean Wood is not long term here. I would like to see him on the court first, because he does provide a lot of flexibility.

$26.1M / 3 years left with 21.8 guaranteed for a player that is inferior to Raul Neto, who just signed a one year minimum deal.
The Pacers also have Ayton, Bitadze and Smith, who all take clear priority over Turner on an expiring.
I just don´t see where the value is coming from.
As they say, it only takes one. To me, the candidates are:
Utah? Are they trading Mitchell or trying to compete? I really like a Turner/Vanderbilt 5/4 combo
Toronto?
Phoenix? Part of the return for Ayton in a S&T?
Memphis? Upgrading Steven Adams?
Chicago? Or are they happy with Vucevic/Drummond?
Charlotte? What a mess. I might have said something Hayward based before Bridges incident.
Brooklyn? As part of KD deal to Phoenix
I think there would be some competition there, but at what price. Two picks seems high (especially if you have to take back McConnell). One future first seems fairly likely.

I like Brooklyn...but not a part of the KD trade. How about a part of the Kyrie trade? Pacers get Westbrook plus two first round picks. They can go full speed into the lottery tanking and let their youngsters get a ton of minutes. The question is would they eat the Westbrook contract? Would Lakers offer two future picks? Brooklyn gets Turner, Lakers get Irving.

I also think teams always seek the best case scenario at first, knowing they will have to come down a notch.
I personally read that as what the asking price dropped to. I bet the Mavs could have gotten Turner for what they got CW for.
I think IND will be lucky to get a 1st for Turner at all.
I of course could be wrong and all it takes is one bidder, but I think Turner's value and even IND's asking price isn't different than CW by much.
And I personally would take CW over Turner all day long, everyday.
I think the asking price hasn´t really changed in the last two years. Feels like we and media sources around the league have discussed the topic in the last two offseasons + deadlines.
Reality is that the rest of the league determines his value. So far they refused all offers but you could be right. At some point they might give in and trade him for a lesser package.

I do like that. I'd want to keep Westbrook away from the kids and cutting him would be super expensive. So, the package would need to be substantial.

Every player now is going to have his warts and Sexton has a few. The fact he can drop 20ppg and theoretically play good defense means his ceiling is higher than anyone else left on the market.
That defense is very theoretical. He is undersized and has been absolutely terrible on a non tanking team with a rep for selfishness. Call me wildly skeptical he will ever be good at defense.

Well, the conversation started with a rumor that IND was considering signing Ayton to an offer sheet. Not everything we discuss has a Mavs angle to it - I totally agree there's 0 chance Turner gets traded to Dallas now.

Back to Sexton briefly, wouldn’t it make more sense if he ended up in Detroit using cap room? That removes the BYC issue. They only have a little over $8mm in cap room left, but Burks could be redirected to Dallas for the Brunson outgoing. That would get them in the neighborhood of $18mm. Dallas would get a defensive wing.
Compensation to Cleveland could be as simple as some of the draft compensation Detroit got for eating Burks and Noel. Or, you could send Josh to Cleveland and Lee would come to Dallas and Detroit keeps the second rounders.

I like this a lot more than giving up THJ for Burks/Noel. A LOT more.
EDIT: this would be adding salary, correct? Not as much as re-signing Brunson would have added, but if they go this way then I'll get off of Cuban's back about money a little bit.

Take this FWIW. I think they're circling something that makes quite a bit of sense, but there's no way that thing is Durant ending up in Dallas (lol).

Windhorst gets extra credite for ending outlandish debates about teams that aren´t located in NY or LA. Let´s talk Knicks.

This would not be a terrible move, but it would mean using our last roster spot for another wing who cannot distribute. We would have way to many of those guys and only two guys that can pass the ball. More moves would have to be made for this to make any sense.

He doesn't have to be great on defense, just passable. He had Allen and Mobley on the back line. Before all the injuries, Cleveland was a very good defensive team.

Turner is better defensively. He's always near the top in blocked shots and offensive rebounding. And he shoots the 3 just as well as CW. Turner's health going forward is the question mark.

And how do the Lakers just pivot to acquiring Hield or Gordon?
Is IND really excited to take on an extra 25 million, kill their cap, and cannibalize minutes for Haliburton?
How are the Rockets going to match salary for Westbrook now that they've bought out Wall?
I hope the league stays strong and make the Lakers wallow another year with Westbrook.

Can't imagine it's much of a debate. He's as distressed an asset as there is. He sat out a whole year because his coach was mean to him, so he doesn't seem to want to play basketball very much. And when he does play, he's a complete liability in the playoffs. And he's shown no desire to improve as a player, in fact he actively resisted his coach pleading with him to shoot and actually forced his team to adjust to him because of it. They had Embiid shooting 3's to try to space the floor for pete's sake. They have possibly the most dominant low post player in the game today and he forced them to make that guy shoot 3's because he was too scared to get clowned on social media for missing a shot. And he's going to be making 35-40 million over the next 3 years? I'd say that's pretty distressed. I can't stand Ben Simmons.
