TDL Archived: The 2nd Rnd Pick Yankee Swap
I can't find it because it was a long time ago but I have said before that from a pure basketball perspective Kyrie is the perfect offensive fit next to Luka. This is the guy who successfully got his own next to LeBron in style in the playoffs. He on an expiring player option so if you could get him cheap enough from Brooklyn maybe you give it a shot and go all in on having a historic offense next season

Dinwiddie managed things in Brooklyn during a rebuild once before…just saying.

If we are allowed to use Brunson’s outgoing in a S&T, we only need about $17mm in outgoing.  Otherwise, it takes $29mm to match.

Scary for sure.  But what if it worked…

Because he's in the last year, he's got a fair amount of leverage, because BRK is going to charge for him in the trade like he's under contract. Whoever trades for him will do so knowing they're about to give him whatever long term deal he wants. If you don't want to do that, you don't cough up the assets this is going to cost.

I absolutely can't stand it. I feel like I'm going to throw up.

Kryie is on a different level than the Zinger.  I doubt the Mavs go all in without working out an agreed upon extension (which again, might be an even worse scenario).  I totally get where you are coming from and I mostly agree.  But...

I actually believe this.... he is a great basketball player. And yet he suspects the moon landing might have been a conspiracy.

These two things just can't exist in my brain simultaneously.

It's an interesting thought, but with the current roster I actually think Bertans is going to play, and maybe quite a bit.

They have.  I was trying to find a comprehensive list, but coming up with nothing.  Names like Gal Mekel and Evan Eschmeyer come to mind.  I don't know if Finley's contract was stretched or not when he was given the Allan Houston exception to remove a waived contract from the salary cap calc, completely.  Some other players come to mind, but I am not sure if they were stretched or not.

Are you positive he actually believes there's a moon?

Cheap is relative as the Nets can just swap expiring headache for expiring headache with the Lakers and get tipped in the process.  They are headed towards a rebuild so they aren't going to want to take on long term money of someone like Bertans.  I'd also assume the Mavs would need to include a pick after the salary matching.

The Nets will be looking for a treasure chest of assets for KD. Phoenix is the odd on favorites to get him if they S&T Ayton with picks and other players. He wants to go there. They are in full rebuild mode now. A striking turn of events for sure.

Finley was that one time forgiveness the NBA offered, I believe.

Does this make the Knicks second guess Brunson and go after Kyrie? The Knicks do Knicks things.

Let's convince Jalen to SnT to the Nets just to fuck with the Knicks.  Jalen + Ayton + Bridges (Jalen's buddy) is a solid team.

The real opportunity is for Cuban, Harrison and co to pass this text by NOT putting it out there that they'll "aggressively pursue Kyrie," hopefully making it more clear to Brunson that he's important to them. But of course, that seems to already be a missed opportunity.

My guess is that NY will do better with this than Dallas, which I find sad.

Imagine Brunson arriving for his meeting tonight only to be stood up by the Knicks brass who are all on the phone with Brooklyn.

Damn, I wonder what Ben Simmons is thinking now?

Please no Kyrie, anyone but Kyrie. This guy singlehandedly destroyed the Nets who had KD, Harden, AND Kyrie. Now we want to bring him here? No way, no how. Pass. He's not worth it, even as talented as he is. Kyrie, Ben Simmons, and Westbrook are my list of players I never want to see on my team, no matter the circumstances.

He's probably hoping to get another half season of paid vacation out of it.

He's on Web MD researching his next injury.

That is a very good point. I doubt it would be enough, but a lot depends on what Kyrie market is. Westbrook and very late picks are probably not a very appealing offer.
