Another agent pissed as hell that Klutch snatched him right before the big payday.

Maybe we can stop the LaVine to Dallas talk based largely on Duffy being LaVine's agent.  Never saw that working.

CLE - We made a mistake by giving you that contract. We don't want to pay you $60M, to be on our roster. Let's talk about you taking less than $60M.

Love - You can waive me and pay me (stretching the $60M over 7 years) if you wish. But I want the $60M you agreed to pay me, to get me to re-sign with you.

The Cavs are dealing with what's known as sunk cost. They are going to pay Love $60M (or very close to it), whether he is on their roster, or whether they waive him. There is no world in which someone will trade for the privilege of paying that $60M. Keeping him on their roster probably does them no good, to have thim there, but it might make them feel like he didn't get what he would prefer, and thus they think it will be a win somehow to keep him on their roster.

Except, "sunk cost" means they have already LOST. No matter how they play it. They will pay him about $60M.

(A version of this same game may be in play in TOR with Dragic. Owners hate to pay. It's real money to them. Then they waste even more money, and lose ground, by insisting on finding a way to win that might be just adding another loss instead. The drama is fun when it's not the team you root for.)

Full Quote:
Quote:The Chicago Bulls completed their sign-and-trade of Lauri Markkanen, sending him to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team deal that brings Larry Nance Jr. to the Trail Blazers and Derrick Jones Jr., a protected Portland first-round pick and a protected Denver second-round pick to Chicago. Chicago had sign-and-trade interest for Markkanen from the following teams, according to sources: Dallas, New Orleans, Cleveland, Minnesota, San Antonio, Sacramento and Boston. The Bulls had driven a hard bargain, refusing trade offers and eventually being hung up on a second-round pick from Cleveland, sources said.
Quote:Markkanen is signing a four-year, $67.5 million deal with the Cavaliers, with a partial guarantee on the fourth year, sources said.
Quote:For executives around the league, the message appeared to be that the Bulls did not want to move Markkanen, even though it is clear the former No. 7 pick wanted a fresh start and asked out. Markkanen fully expected to be part of the DeMar DeRozan sign-and-trade package to San Antonio, but Chicago is believed to have pulled him from the proposal, sources said.
Quote:Markkanen had a one-year, $9 million qualifying offer on the table. But after a major offseason acquiring DeRozan, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso, the Bulls wanted to address the Markkanen situation sooner rather than later. If Markkanen signed the qualifying offer, he would have had a no-trade clause and therefore the Bulls risked losing him for nothing at the end of the season. The Bulls received a strong haul in a rotation player like Jones and two draft picks in Friday’s trade.

I think Philly can sell him anyday for a package offered by one of the teams reported. I don't think those offers are decreasing yet so they can afford to wait for Lillard a little bit longer. But I guess the staring contest will not go long after training camp start

Even without Huerter, Lou Willliams, Gallinari, Reddish and a back-up C they are already at $110M next year.

I wonder about the value of Gallinari. Will the Hawks have to attach an asset to get rid of him or actually get some positive return for him.
