Since he´s had foot surgery that will probably cost him half the season anyway, the most likely outcome would be him just taking the $7M.
Yeah, I believe they could still resign him. Not sure how much they can resign him for. Although, it is probably best for both player and team to get a fresh start somewhere else. He just seems snake bit in Portland.

This is the most likely list, imho:
- Grant
- Wood
- Siakam

Now this will be a precedent, player who just signed his extension demanding a trade. It will also shake up the trade situation. I don't think there is any way Mavs get him, but I am interested if this means a firesale in Portland. I don't really see a lot of point keeping all those old guys since they will likely receive less talent in the Lillard trade.

We won’t get him I agree, but is KP, DFS, Brunson, Green 2025 & 2027 1st and 3 pick swaps really that far off? Is it possible that Dame has a list (let’s say it’s Lakers, Clippers, Mavs) and the Mavs offer is the best of those 3 teams? It’s not happening but we can dream.

What I am affraid - unless Kawhi is signing with us, team gutted that badly will have a hard time contending. Team I would be most affraid of - Philly. Legit contender, ton of assets, even a star available.

That trade still leaves you with 26 million in cap space so building around the duo would be easy IMO. Knicks or Philly I agree.

Need to add Miami to the Lillard destinations list, cause, I mean, aren't they redoing the whole team this offseason?

Yeah, I bet the Magic are surprised, too.

Yep. And while the Knicks fans would be more insufferable than ever, I'd totally support two Western competitors losing their superstars to the Eastern conference.
Counterpoint: Dolan.

I don't really trust TrueHoop, but if what they're saying is true then the Mavs need to go ALLLLLL in on the Lillard+Kawhi pipe dream.
If they find a way to get their 2023 pick back, then their offer suddenly becomes relatively competitive.
I'd call NYK, and offer Brunson for 2023+Knox
Go to the Blazers and ask if KP+Maxi+Green+Terry+Knox with picks 2022/2024/2026/2028 and pickswaps in 2023/2025/2027
if thats what they want. If not I'd find a way to turn Maxi+KP into as many picks as possible and just to add on the pile.
James Harden, a player arguably better than Lillard right now, went for 3 unprotected first rounders and 4 pickswaps and some middling talent. That offer on paper is competitive.

Cmon Omahen, you should know first hand how Luka can take middling talent and turn it into something special. Now imagine Luka has Damian freaking Lillard as a running mate. Doesn't matter who's 3-10 at that point. Instant playoff team.

We already are an instant playoff team, so I fail to see where is the improvement

If Portland wants to compete, Philly is the most logical partner. Simmons for Dame makes sense for both and Portland would get further assets. Simmons-CJ-Powell-RoCo would be a great starting four. Problem is the fifth member, as Nurkic just doesn't fit with Simmons. Stretch big would be needed and KP could be a great final member of the starting unit. So how about Nurkic, DJJ and RoCo for KP and Kleber. Salary cap would remain a problem for Portland. Mavs would keep space to sign a secondary playmaker like Conley.
Luka, Conley, DFS, RoCo, Nurkic vs Simmons, CJ, Powell, Kleber, KP

Damian Lillard>>>>>>>>>THJ+KP+Brunson combined.
Dude almost single-handedly took down the Nuggets this year.
Thats the improvement. Trade for Dame, fill out with ring chasers and wait till playoffs and try to find a team that can stop BOTH Lillard and Luka.

Yeah but why make Portland better and us worse?
If we can get Conley, we would have a starting 5 of
Conley,DFS,*,Luka,KP and can choose between THJ, Brunson, Maxi, Dwight to be *.

In any case, I can totally see Kawhi saying (to all teams) - sign Dame and I come. From here on is a complex process of convincing Dame that coming to Dallas and merging with Kawhi/Luka there makes way more sense than going to New York where the third guy is someone like Randle. So lets see how connected Nico really is

So lets see how connected Nico really is I agree, that's where Miami comes into play and playing with Adebayo (in the east, Butler would be the SnT to get Kawhi). However, they would need to figure out how to get more picks, but they have a team that is able to get those picks back in short order.
