Cuban is loyal to a fault. Maybe he tried the Bob thing because he saw the same flaws we all did but didn’t want to outright fire Donnie. But too many chefs in the kitchen was never going to work and led to this inevitable ending.
We say Cuban involves too much. However every owner will be involved in the big money signings or things to keep a true franchise level player happy. Cuban is not an exception there. The smaller signings and draft movement..no one can con convine me that Cuban was involved in that. Maybe he had an overall directive as far as a long term plan. However just taking the Giannis draft story. Maybe Cuban is upset that Donnie was not more creative in convincing him to draft Giannis or even make some moves to free up a few dollars so that trading down was not needed. Every other GM seems capable of that.
The real issue here is that Cuban was probably too loyal. Maybe this is the moment Cuban gets a GM who is not just a buddy and is someone who is held accountable. Eh, there is no way a credible GM drafts Satnam Singh, Bernard "Sarge" James or Kostas, especially Satnam Singh. Only Cuban could have made those marketing decisions. Those were not basketball decisions.
JJ Redick is actually a similar case. I´d really like to know, who the driving force behind acquiring the podcaster was.

Two of the 3 were literally the last pick in the draft. Not like Donnie had a good draft history with even mid first round picks let alone 2nd round picks.
Yes I totally agree that those were Cuban picks but if one is fair Donnie’s overall performance over the last decade has been mediocre at best.

I don’t see how we can hire anyone but Masai Uriji. He’s proven. He’s made big moves in the past. And he’s drafted significant talent consistently for a small market team.
Danny Ainge could be considered also.
Beyond that, unless you have a real special diamond that know one else knows about, this isn’t a time for making and correcting mistakes.
Thank you Donnie.

Cuban makes guy GM, that Luka hates* and we back to....
*assuming that report was accurate and not Donnie firing a parting shot at his arch nemesis.

I´m not saying Donnie hasn´t been awful at drafting, but those are still three darts you can throw at the board, while picking Satnam is basically deciding not to play at all. Just examples to show that I believe Cuban is involved very deeply and it´s part of the problem.

My understanding is that Bob's contract is up this summer. You can't fire a guy who is not under contract, and there's also no need to completely rule him out if the new GM wants to work with him. So I imagine he'll float while they sort things out.

They're going to end up hiring a heavy analytics guy from the new GM position whether Bob is here or not, because Cuban believes in it and has invested a lot of resources in it. I guess we'll see how much Bob is respected in that community.
