If that´s the case they should make a win now move. If that´s not the case they should try to collect assets for the future. Once again all about capspace. Use picks to create capspace but never add any longterm salary.

I don't understand why everyone thinks an expiring contract like Johnson is some huge asset that teams covet. he bottomline is that sellers are usually bad rebuilding teams that want good young players and/or draft picks to build around. Expiring contracts at the end of the are not a rare or coveted asset by themselves, theyre what you need as trade filler to make salaries match without the other team having to take on long term money. The Magic didn't want OPJ's expiring for Vuc, they wanted the 2 draft picks and WCJ. OPJ was just there to make the math work.

Using our expiring contracts to take on short term bad salary while adding picks is what smart teams do when they aren't contenders. It’s what hopeless teams do. Our capspace for next year has been filled for awhile now with THj and J Rich. They’ve always been in the future plans since the offseason. We’ve seen enough to know we’re a contender as is. The record since the season started in February speaks for itself

Sure, if we're aquiring a player who actually makes a difference in the playoffs, but that's going to be someone markedly better than someone who can be had for a couple of 2nd round draft picks. Fournier is not going to help the Celtics beat the Nets or Sixers in the playoffs. The best player traded today was Aaron Gordon, who I don't think you're a big fan of. I'm also confused, because do we want the Mavs to start valuing the draft again or do we want them to make a trade because we're bored on the internet today.
