Welp, the runway has been set for the completion of the perfect "summer trifecta" of front office moves. Kidd is out, and not a moment too soon, imho.
https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/20568...74155?s=20 I'm hopeful that the timing of this corresponds with Nick Nurse finding a way out in Philly, but I don't think we've heard anything about that yet. Who are some other candidates we like? Exciting times to be a Mavs fan!!!!

Gotta say...I'm LOVING the Ujiri era, so far.

So Nick Nurse?

From DMN
"Kidd and Ujiri's paths crossed 12 years ago when Kidd's Nets faced Ujiri's Toronto Raptors in the first round of the 2014 playoffs. The former Raptors president infamously shouted "F--- Brooklyn!" at a fan rally before Game 1 began. Kidd was asked after the game about Ujiri's comment and said he could "care less" about what the former Raptors GM said. "You gotta tell me who the GM is," Kidd said. "I don't even know who that is. I could care less what they think about Brooklyn. We have a job to do, and that's to play the game of basketball."

Dan Hurley is the dream, but I think the chances are truly slim.
Todd Golden, Jon Scheyer and Dusty may are other college coaches I would be happy with. Sean Sweeney is the obvious choice among current assistants, but isn’t he a return of one of the old regime? Nori from Minny is another highly rated assistant. Thibodeau, Donovan, Vogel & Budenholzer are the best ones from free agents (none are exactly exciting choice). Nurse is the only one from current coaches we might think about, considering the cost.

Things that could potentially be in the cards for our Mav-watching in the near future:
An actual NBA offense, in which the ball moves and advantages are created. Creative, unpredictable ATO's. A defensive system that doesn't concede corner 3's, which are the shots everyone's offense is trying to generate to begin with. Press conferences in which actual thoughtful, meaningful answers are given (when appropriate) by someone overtly intelligent and articulate. Please, please, please Mavs...don't blow this. Hire one of the best.

Masai has already made some moves that surprised me but I would guess a young, grinding first time coach. Like the Utah coach or OKC coach. Someone to grow with the team and be a part of the early building blocks.

I am going to say something though, Mavs were fairly lucky with their coaches in this century. Don Nelson, Johnson, Rick and Kidd. All were good competent coaches, 2 are HOF coaches and Kidd has a chance to get there. There was nany times when upgrades were needed, but they were never really among the worse coaches in the league.
May that trend continues

Of course, there are also some names that would induce vomitus rage, the kind from I which I wouldn't expect to recover for days. So, there's potential here for disaster, I suppose.

Kidd is never going to be a tactician but he is good empowering players and helping them expand their game and grow confident. That is not nothing. He had two deep playoffs runs here. Unfortunately I have no doubt he played a part in the trade. Maybe not the deal but he was involved. Hurley would be great. He is a psycho though. Saw this a few weeks ago. Sort of stalkerish though https://www.instagram.com/reel/DW9j2_REb...poOG5qdw==

I know Kidd has his defenders here, but I'm glad he's gone. He was pretty good at managing personalities, but not a good coach, imo. I know the former is a big part of succeeding in the NBA, but you need to be at least competent at the latter as well.
