MAVS NEWS:
(02-11-2026, 01:24 PM)michaeltex Wrote: Couple of questions/thoughts...

If gambling in TX is such a longshot and would require years of multi-million dollar investment (*campaign donations*) wouldn't it make sense for the Adelsons to cut their losses, recoup their investment and target getting the LV expansion rights? Or maybe Seattle, if Washington state is more open to gambling? (of which, I have no idea)

Who went to who? Did Cuban, possibly having some inside knowledge, go find an investment group or did they round up Cuban because he already owns part of the team? How much would they want to buy? 24% + Cuban = controlling interest but leaves Adelsons as the largest shareholder. This would leave operational headaches to Cuban and the investors but keep a Adelson interest in whatever arena expansion is envisioned for possible future exploitation. It took a long time to get a lottery started and alcohol sales have Or would Adelsons want to get all the way out to clear decks for something else?

TBH, it always felt weird to me that Cubes sold to a group with so little ties to Texas in general and DFW in specific.

Good questions, but I don't think any of this will be known for awhile.

He must have some indicators that suggest they are unhappy owners or might prefer another city.... or something. If I was an investor, the first thing I would ask Cuban before calling in my assets is "They want to sell the team?" I have to think a lot of thought (and phone calls) goes into whether you want to be an investor and if it's worth it to start intense discussions on the subject without knowing if someone wants to sell.

What I DON'T think is clear is this: Did Cuban round up the investors, or did the investors tap Cuban? I think that matters for a lot of reasons. And, could it be that the investors are even overemphasizing Cuban's involvement (so far) in order to gain traction, publicly?

Who knows.   You may be right.  Cuban has always been sneaky though.   Could he feel like he will be bought down in the next two years and is making an all out push to keep his 27% or gain more?

I like Cuban.  I really do.  I thought he run was over.  I would take him over the current owners.  Looking back the last 15 years, his hands were all involved with all the screwups the team made.  Maybe the reason the screw ups happen.  There was a bunch too.

I also don't think he has the money needed to buy the team.  Also, same as the current owners, Investers typically don't buy a team worth billions and not have say no direction.   That also sticks out to me.

I just think Cuban has sellers remorse. For as much as I dislike him, he does care about the team. That remorse will be compounded if he's angling for a bigger portion of the team as it will certainly cost him more than he made from selling that portion of his stake.

I think in Cuban's eyes, he's trying to "save the franchise". He's trying to make things right. Again this is his view.

This reminds me a little bit of:

"I just want the Mavericks to play a Golden State-style movement offense that's pleasing to the eyes."

Okay.

How about winning?  What if they play a really ugly style, but win lots of games? Would you be really upset?

What if they win a ton of games with a completely unsettled GM situation?  Or a GM that you consider completely incompetent?  Or a greedy owner that you don't like? Or even if Cooper Flagg becomes a complementary player and not the centerpiece?

You need to prioritize your list of wants.  If winning is the most important thing, then you shouldn't really care how they achieve it.

Just came across this on twitter:

Mavs have lost 8 straight games for the first time since November 2016. That was the year they started Bogut next to Dirk and tried to hand over the keys to HB.

Time flies…

I remember trying to get myself hyped up for Harrison and just couldn't.  GSW's consolation prize was Durant.  haha

I prefer win games (and titles) over play a good basketball.

But big lineups and no 3s is a great way to lose games and play a bad basketball.
That's sure.

I know you're just trolling and I shouldn't engage, but on the off chance that you're not INTENTIONALLY missing the point, "winning" is exactly what I'm asking for in the post you quoted, and I think that's clear. Drama like this makes winning more difficult, not less.

IMO - This is Cuban having Stein put it out there - trying to get the fan base behind him and start chanting at games for them to sell the team - just like they did with Nico. Make them uncomfortable....

STORY UPDATE: A source close to Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont tells @TheSteinLine tonight that “the team is not for sale and the (Adelson and Dumont) families look forward to expanding their ownership stake over time.”

Ruh roh!

I learned (and mentioned) earlier today that they have the option (totally in their power, Cuban has no say) to buy him down to a 7% stake at any time within the first 4 years. This reads like that's the plan...or at least like the THREAT of one. Maybe a negotiating ploy?

More from the source close to Patrick Dumont tonight: “The Dumont and Adelson families remain fully committed to the Dallas Mavericks’ franchise and to the Dallas community. They remain focused on building a championship organization for the long term.”

In an interview today, Mark Cuban told @townbrad: “I get asked fairly often if I would be part of a group if they could buy the team. I tell them all the same thing: I don’t see the (Dumont and Adelson families) selling.”

And there it is...I wondered if someone was just using Cuban's name prematurely.

The Mavericks say that forward/guard Cooper Flagg underwent an MRI that revealed a left midfoot sprain.

Flagg has been ruled out of Thursday’s game against the Lakers as well as his Friday night participation at All-Star Weekend.

Sucks for him that he can't participate in All Star Weekend. I'm sure he's dreamed of that for most of his life.

Poor kid. Although he’s handling things like a champ, he’s gotten a lot more than he bargained for, coming to a team full of vets who were expected to help take the load off him as a rookie.

On the flip side, 8 games and counting…..THE TANK IS ON, BABY!!

Well if true, that’s a relief.
