Anthony Davis says the Wizards could be No. 1 in the East next season:

“It’s hard to say (I would definitely stay in D.C.) without the proper plan. Obviously, it’s tough right now with the team. It shows with their record, but adding certain pieces, that can change. It’s year by year. They could be the No. 1 team in the East next year.”

Super athletic. Kind of a mix of Gafford and Lively offensively. I was going to point out the nice lefty push shot until I realized he’s left handed Smile . He’s a little lazy on screen setting but does a good job rolling and finishing above the rim. His passing is a bright spot, especially from the top of the key, in the short roll. That’s where I see some of the Lively comparisons. Has a little more midrange game than both Gaff/DLive. Anyway, I definitely think he’s a decent NBA-level Big. Excited to see how he does here the next 30 games or so. I can see the Mavs bringing him back as the 2nd/3rd Big next year if all goes well.

3 picks to evaluate.

I assume we get the best guard that falls to us. That will be true no matter were we pick. Maybe the mavs try to trade up if we do not get good pic positioning. Hopefully we move up anyway with some good ping pong balling again.

Pick 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9KLPh6DY-k
https://www.tankathon.com/players/motiejus-krivas
this kid has center size at 7'2 260 but moves like hes a forward. Good footwork from what I can see here. shoots over 80% on free throws. when he really gets going he could be a Sabonis type. I think the Lithuanian kid is going to move up from where he is now by a lot and we might be lucky to snag him at 30.

3rd pick. Assuming we get the positional talents we target with the first 2 picks I would add talent at another position instead of adding another 1 or 5. If our 1 is not a great 3 point shooter then I target best 3 point shooter remaining who is a 2 or 3 or if a 4 is the best remaining 3 point shooter or if a PG with size is the best available I would be okay with that move as well.

I can see us having an interesting end of season competition as the new guys try to impress.

People forget, Bagley isn't considered a bust because he's not any good. It's because he kept getting injuried. Kinda like Lively tbh.

Bagley has some nice skills for a big. Hope they give him a nice testdrive early in games and don't let him play in the fourth quarter.

Also difficult to put aside the draft class implications but I agree. It would also be very ironic making him a legitimate reclamation project post Luka but if it helps Flagg thrive so be it.

IIRC this is our second swing with a big from that draft class - Willy Cauley Stein being the first

It's funny how I remember some of you on here trashing Bagley, saying things like he didn't deserve to be drafted so high (2nd overall in 18) ahead of Luka and he isn't very good, etc. He's bounced around to 5 teams previously. Now you praise and embrace him because he's on the team. Just shows how perceptions change when narratives do. Maybe he can provide some help, but there is a reason he's been traded so much.

100%. I was talking to my only friend Spalding for the last five years, eating and drinking coconuts and suddenly this Bagley island is getting more crowded than Hawaii. Big Grin Big Grin

Bagley is unrestricted. There’s no chance he’s coming back next year. 0%. He’s better than people think though.

I don’t know if he will or won’t be back. He’s a minimum guy now. Several people in the NBA talk about how once you take the minimum, you’re stuck as a minimum guy. Unless of course you have some crazy year. I don’t know that Bagley is going the be some high demand Big this summer. He’s on his 5th team in 8 seasons. He’s played more than 50 games once in his career, which was his rookie year. 0% chance seems pretty low Wink

We also have the financial flexibility now to overpay him on a one year contract instead of screwing ourselves with a DAR 2nd year player option.

I actually struggle to restrict this roster to 15 players.

Irving/1st round pick/1st round pick
Christie/MLE/Johnson
Marshall/Martin/Thompson
Flagg/Washington/TPE
Lively/Gafford/Bagley

No space for Jones, Middleton, Cisse, Nembhard or the Suns 2nd round pick, not to even mention Williams or our mascot.

Just a fair warning that I´ll lose my sh*t, when they trade the Thunder and Suns picks just to create space to sign washed up Tyus Jones and Khris Middleton, when they should take as many chances as they can to find Cooper´s running mates. Cry

Ok 1%.  But the Mavs would be incredibly stupid to spend a single nickel more than needed until they find a second young all star. Cisse is a much better option for where the Mavs stand now. As for Bagley, to break out of the minimum player trap, he needs to take his prove it deal on a team with fewer front court players in the mix. Bagley and Mavs are not a fit in any way.

There is so much room between "he shouldn't have been drafted ahead of Luka" and he might have a little more value than your typical vet min trade throw in.  Its reasonable to have both those thoughts.

His game is a little like Christian Wood’s. He’s got chops on offense, but a little sieve-like on defense.

Unlike Mr. Wood, however, he seems to have a realistic picture of his game and his value.

Do the Mavs value his offense? Or Cisse’s defense? Or Powell’s steady mentorship?
