Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST

I mean, maybe not by choice, I suppose.

I have liked Zubac, when he was still considered trash on the Lakers, but I don´t think they lose enough here to fall behind the Mavs or Grizzlies, who will be hardcore tankers. The cushion should be far too big.

Also Tyus Jones. I liked him in the past, but the Magic fans hated him so much.

Mavs are re-routing Malaki Branham and getting back Tyus Jones, a source confirms. No picks involved in the deal. Mavs get a point guard after sending out D'Angelo Russell in the A.D. deal yesterday.

The Charlotte Hornets are trading Tyus Jones to the Dallas Mavericks for Malaki Branham, sources tell ESPN. Mavericks have had interest in Jones this season and get him today. Hornets open up a $7 million trade exception.

Scary...a little.

This might be construed as a move intended to win more games, and might actually be successful in that endeavor. They obviously need better PG play. Alternatively, it could be seen in the light of helping Flagg develop, despite losing. But, he's expiring, just like Branham...they didn't make this deal not to play Jones, that's for sure.

Tyus Jones, sources say, was who Dallas actually targeted above D'Angelo Russell this summer, before Jones found a richer deal with Orlando than the Mavericks could afford.

I really liked Tyus Jones (he was my first pick over Dlo as well) but he has not been good this year.  I guess its a flyer.

Agreed.  Our plucky little team just got a little pluckier.

A completely pointless trade at this stage. Why not test Branham and do it in the summer?

It´s probably bad news for Nembhard (and Williams), since Jones is basically them.

No, we are collecting PGs that are 6'2" or under.

I think we can stack a couple of 'em and make one good-sized PG.

The Bucks and Suns have expanded this to a three-team deal to include the Chicago Bulls: Ousmane Dieng to Milwaukee and Nick Richards to Chicago, sources said.

I would have said significantly better but he completely fell off a cliff this season.  Not sure what his deal is.

Tyus is a legit point guard with real point guard skills.

However, he is ass at almost every other facet of basketball so playing him won't hurt the tank.

Hmmm I thought Tyus Jones must have a year left. Surely they cannot try to win now. Surely not.

Do we expect Jones to get more than the minimum in the summer? Do we have any rights to re-sign Jones slightly over the minimum without tapping into an exception now. Hopefully that is their way of thinking.

Milwaukee smartly collecting some youngsters to see if they can find a diamond until summer

Chicago got their center for remainder of the season

I had that thought, too. You're right - could just be about keeping that potential door open.

This takes me back about 5-7 years ago, when the Mavs ended up trading four 2nd round picks to rent Delon Wright from the Grizzlies for a year, and the Grizzlies then signed Tyus Jones for less. Another of these dumb little Cuban moves.

Are we blaming Cuban or Donnie for that one?

Either way, that was some of the most puzzling GMing.

The AD trade tells me they've turned the page a bit and aren't rushing the Flagg timeline like we did with Luka.

Also, the thought could be Jones could teach Nemby a thing or two about being an undersized guard in this league.

Maybe the Hornets wanted Branham. Maybe Finley wanted to make a trade too. Tyus Jones seems like a nothing burger to trade for.

Boucher and Cam Thomas were already cut. Both could be interesting for contenders on the buyout market.
