well after surprising wins against the Knicks and Warriors, I expect reality to hit them in the faces.   With a tough game against a resurgent Hornets, the next 8 games will all be tough.   A win may be tough to get.  I think they may get 2 at the most.  After that they play four other dregs of the league (two at home, two on the road).

Prime opportunity to move up (down?) in the lottery chances!

They already bottled it. Only way to go down during those nine games is going 0-9 and I´m not convinced either Milwaukee or Memphis win the necessary two games to accomplish it. More likely that they lose more ground on Milwaukee and Memphis.

I think we're pretty locked in to pick in the 8 to 10 range again.

We're 7/8 wins above the top 5 (Wash, NOP, Kings, Pacers, Nets). We're not catching that crowd.

Jazz at 6 with 15 wins. We've already seen how good they are at tanking. We're not catching them.

Memphis/Milwaukee at 7 and 8. If the Bucks trade Giannis, its full on tank.   Memphis with or without Ja will probably tank.  I think it would take a miracle to get in this range.

We're currently a half game above Charlotte at 9.  I think the Hornets want to win. They are sitting a couple games behind that 10 spot in the east.  This is where our lottery odds will fall.

It's better to have a good draft experts and a top 10 pick than Vegas Bob and a top3. Trust me.

I think you're probably accurate.

There's probably 10 players I've seen in Mock Drafts that could be there.

Mikel Brown - PG
Nate Ament - SF\PF
Yaxel Lendborg - SF\PF
Jaden Quaintance - C\PF
Darius Acuff - PG
Brayden Mullins - SG
Labaron Philon - PG
Keaton Wagler - SG\PG
Hannes Steinbach - C\PF
Koa Peat - PF

These strike me as being the most likely players on the board - in no particular order yet. Usually the Final Four playoffs will push somebody up or down

Hopefully we can strike gold in that range. Would be nice to get in the top 5 of this draft somehow.  Lottery luck again or trading to move up. Something.

Most of these guys could play with Flagg. The exceptions that I think might be somewhat redundant with Flagg are Steinbach and Peat. But really that's a nice selection of players and several decent shooters.

Of the PG's, all three of them have a certain specific quality. Brown's perimeter shooting is suspect, but most analysts think it has to do with shot-selection rather than shooting mechanics (His FT% is very good)

Acuff has been compared to Stephon Marbury and every time I see him that looks about right. Lots of buckets, lots assists, but 6'3".

Philon went back to college after testing the draft last year and improved his perimeter shooting. Needs some muscle.

Wagler is the surpise as a playmaking SG. His freshman year has been spectacular. You worry he might cool off when he gets to the NBA

Lendborg is one of those guys that does everything. He looks like a NFL player - like a bigger Dort. Good shooter and is constantly moving. Very active.

Mullins is the best perimeter shooter of the bunch. I hope UConn goes deep in the playoffs as he would be fun to watch.

Quaintance may very well be the next Dwight Howard, but he's had a few injuries so he's a bit unknown in regards to competiton. Almost every says he's a defensive monster.

The Mavericks “badly” want Dirk Nowitzki to join the franchise in whatever capacity he wants, per @TheSteinLine.

Dirk is currently focused on his studio role with Amazon and his role as an ambassador for FIBA.

Yes, and there's value in even just putting this out there, even knowing Dirk has bigger and better things going on. Letting your fans know in no uncertain terms that you value Dirk Nowitzki is one of the smarter things this regime has done in recent memory.

There has been an encouraging trend starting early this season.

First he overrides Nico and holds AD from coming back too early from injury.
Then he fires Nico.
Not happy with the interim GM situation, but at least the rumors coming from Mavs camp make coherent sense.
Now this appeal to Dirk.

Hopefully this is a sign of decent ownership.  Will have better feel for it after this week.

As much as I love Dirk, I don't want him making any basketball decisions.

The NBA announced today that Mavericks forward/guard Cooper Flagg was named the Kia Western Conference Rookie of the Month for games played in January.

It marked the 3rd straight month that he received the honor, becoming the 2nd Mav to garner the award in 3 consecutive months.
