MAVS NEWS:
A fresh start for Mavs fans would be trading AD, Klay and Martin. They are reminders of Nico's mistakes. (Christie gets a pass as he has endeared himself to Mavs fans).
Kidd needs to be fired, he is a mediocre coach at best -- but I don't expect him to be fired right away (season's end would be the time).

With this hell of a draft is pointless not tank... Take Irving out all the season, trade AD and we have a tank.

This is our superstar. Kick out this soft budino from the city ASAP

This is a guy that will make (Guaranteed!!!) $112MM+ over this season and the next two. At which point he'll be 35 and on the downside of his career. That's generational wealth and puts him at #7 on a highest salaries list.

I don't really get a vibe that he cares that much anymore, so what's his motivation moving forward?

Nico's gift that keeps on giving.

Mavs with AD 1-3 with a -10 pt differential.
Mavs without AD 2-5 with a -4.3 pt differential.

Don´t think AD means much to winning or losing for this team anyway. He´s lazy. For the last three years he was one of the lowest activity players in the league. It has f*** all to do with being 10-15 pounds overweight coming into the season. He had the same activity levels as Brook Lopez, James Harden and Joel Embiid for the last three years. He simply does not run/move.

And he fits horrible to the rest of the roster forcing half the roster to play out of position...

Memphis is in 10th with 7 losses. We have 8

A play-in spot is ok, but that's not what this team was built for. This team was built (supposedly) for the playoffs.  At this point, why fight for a play-in spot when it's a good chance you'll be eliminated? Take your lumps this year and reconfigure the team for the future by getting pieces that fit.

I think the first order of business is not letting AD play another minute and trade him to the highest bidder. It's time to rebuild around Cooper.

No more ego to feed, we can tank or at least let play the kids 35minutes per game.

Trade Thompson.
Sit Irving this season.
Let Street clothes does what he is made for. Stay in street clothes.

I agree the Mavs need to maximize CF's development and timeline. And get him plenty of minutes to develop NBA skills.

However when it comes to AD, I don't agree the Mavs rush into a "get rid of him" deal should be part of the process. He is the Mavs best trade asset. A half-season ago he landed Luka Doncic (!) in return. He's a 2-way big. Yes he has flaws, but the idea to bury him, then take whatever you can get, that's way wrong.

Instead, imo you have to get him healthy, then get him back in the lineup and looking great. You limit his minutes to 28-30, but you prioritize his stats, with the goal that even Mavs fans see him as priceless. You keep him all season with those as your priorities. If that focus on AD means the Mavs win a lot, or if it means they lose a lot, either way is okay imo. (To me only bad outcome is landing in the middle, where you get neither a top pick nor a strong playoff run.) The goal is All-NBA, non-injured AD.

And THEN in the summer you make the "hard decision" to move him, to make more room for CF, and you take the big giant offer some team will make in order to have an all-NBA caliber big on their roster.

[MacMahon] The Dallas Mavericks are expected to gauge the trade market for Anthony Davis, according to league sources: “You say, ‘We’re going to take what we can get [for Davis].’ At this point, I’m not sure what they can get.”

I definitely understand that aspect and my only concern with him returning and then having an Achilles injury. Then we are completely screwed for years. I agree that your way is the best for a great return assuming he doesn't suffer a serious injury. Achilles injuries are really scary. I feel like the Mavs are playing with fire if he plays another minute.

The pressure may be off for now but no one has said anything about tearing down the team and rebuilding around Flagg. They still have AD and Klay and Kyrie might be back before Christmas. Unfortunately Klay's value is negative and AD's is uncertain -- so I don't think they'll make any moves over the next two months.

The best path forward is to get AD back on the court and hopefully rebuild his trade value so they have options at the deadine.

Ultimately I think they DO have to trade AD (despite the fact that this team could still look pretty salty with Kyrie and AD on the floor) before this fanbase will turn the page.

I think "gauging the market" just means "open for new business."

But everyone in every league office knows this already.

Will they tank NOW? Possibly, but ...

You're generally saying almost exactly what I'm saying. Whether they have reached that decision point remains to be seen, you say. I agree. You don't think it has happened yet. I think it might have. Without being in the mind of the Mavs decision-makers, we can't know. It's just a guess.

"I think the organization is SHELL SHOCKED by this poor start, and the GM is being fired right now, at this very moment, specifically because they all expected the team would be in contention this season." -- With all due respect, I think that's nonsense.

Ownership didn't care about the W/L record of the moment. Not a bit. Their issue was Nico. If they are shell-shocked, it was by the utter lack of public support, and by a total loss of faith that Nico had any clue in how to deftly navigate the tricky path forward after jettisoning the face of the franchise. It was never going to be easy to move forward in a good way. It will take an expert. That's not Nico.

FWIW whether or not they have been tanking up til now, imo that's over except for the ongoing effects of choices already made. I don't think Nico getting fired determines anything. I think a new GM - if a skilled experienced one such as Lindsey is obtained soon - will be tasked with independently figuring out the path forward and will have the final word. Cuban says he's trying to get Lindsey in the job, and I sure hope that happens. I would also guess both ownership and Cuban may explore Cuban having some say again, probably as an advisor to Dumont, as a safety net if nothing else.

The Mavs failure was not building a relationship with Luka to demand he take his body seriously like he is now. They let him do whatever he wanted and never confronted him and engaged him in a way that was effective. Massive massive failure.

There was a way to do it and they couldn’t figure it out. I do not think Luka could only be motivated by being humiliated in a trade. There had to be a way.
