The CBA specifies how the salary is paid (typically in payments that begin in Oct and end in Sept), but allows up to half to be paid up front (a negotiated item).
I am more curious about the TK in a way -- it is not unusual (especially with a star) and 15% is max allowed, but I am wondering if it is part of the 118.5 being reported. That happens sometimes and messes with our understanding of the salary cap in play.
ADDING - I see S added Kyrie numbers as I was typing -- thanks!

Essentially on October 1st (or whatever specified date), Kyrie will get half of his entire salary year paid out to him. So October 1st this year, Kyrie will get a paycheck of 18.3 mil. Then the rest paid out in usually bi-weekly installments.
This does not affect the cap hit nor anything really relevant for our armchair GM'ing purposes.

Official word from Dr. Siegel (the eye doctor):
"Full retinal detachments must be addressed right away. What Anthony Davis likely suffered was a small tear in the retina and an injury that could lead to detachment. They probably held off until now and fixed it with a laser."
Makes sense to wait until July. Probably couldn´t take time off from his golfing schedule since April 11th.

FACT Kai is a lot better than DP, and we may need him since the injuries are already starting up again and we have not even started the season and AD is needing a new eye ball. Somebody see if they can get us some better medical professionals because it sounds to me like they must be picking guys based on looks instead of brains. Kai may be adequate at PF as well as the 5, when you shoot better than 80% you usually get a contract sent your way instantly. I would lock him up because it may not be long before One eyed Jack retires to the new NBA wheelchair league or maybe they are going for creating the peg leg Pirate league with guys that need to wear a patch.

It's my opinion, that what you're calling a fact, is your opinion.
I've been discounting Powell for a while, but then see him in international games for Canada, and he ends up holding his own, somehow, against international competition. Haven't seen enough of a sample size from his competition to say "better" or not. Perhaps the Canadian coach knows how to use him.

Longtime NBA assistant coach and former Mavericks fan favorite Popeye Jones is expected to join Jason Kidd’s Dallas coaching staff, league sources tell @TheSteinLine and @DLLS_Sports, which would reunite them after they played together during Kidd’s first two NBA seasons.

Dallas has been in discussions with former Lakers/Cavaliers/Raptors assistant coach Phil Handy and Jones to fill staff vacancies created by the departures of Jared Dudley to Denver and God Shammgod to Orlando.
As reported here last week, Handy also has interest from the Knicks.

Does Popeye still own the Mavericks one-game rebound record? Seem like someone passed him, but I can't remember who.

One of my favorite players. That team with the three J's were so weak in the frontcourt. Popeye couldn't jump over an ant and probably had one of the unique bodies ever for an NBA player. That Dude just found ways to get the ball. It was comical at times.
He had a few strong years in dallas on a roster depleted team and then had spot roles for the rest of his time. He did play for 10 years in the NBA and for his skillset that was quite a accomplishment.

I don't think I will change anyone's opinions or if I really believe the dual center approach, but I went back and watched highlights of both Gafford and Lively. One thing that sticks out is its a tough position to play. Constantly sprinting into the paint where there are a lot of bodies. Contesting a lot of shots with a lot of bodies in the lane. Really being the QB of the defense. ETC. It is not a job where you can rest. They both go all out. They play that way for 4-5 minutes and then the other one comes in. with the added bulk in the West, that position is going to take a lot of pounding and will need bodies throughout the regular season.
I love both players...just lively more. Finding big guys who play hard all the time is not easy to find. I have been playing around with Lively coming off the bench. Last year, I wanted him started and getting more minutes. AFter an injury filled season, I wonder if they look to go back to the previous season. I think Lively works really well with some of the guys off the bench too who like to run.

Totally agree. Both guys go hard, and that's the thing that has made it work.
When I watch Gafford, I am struck by how his motor is simultaneously the thing that makes him a huge plus AND the only thing making him viable at all. This worries me, because he's not the longest guy for the position and his game is so predicated on verticality. It seems like 90% of his highlight blocks result in him landing on his butt or his back, as if he's having to give every ounce of physical energy he has just to make the play. This is a great thing in terms of whether or not he has a great motor, or plays "the right way," etc, but how long can he keep that style up? He's already kind of slow footed...will he still be making those plus plays at the end of this contract, even? I feel similarly when I watch Brunson fall to the floor on almost every driving layup attempt. I just don't know how sustainable I think it is.
Lively, by contrast, seems much more physically capable of affecting the game within a sustainable "comfort zone" of athletic ability, and when I say that I don't mean to suggest that he doesn't also play with a high motor, because he does. It's just that his motor doesn't have to be redlined for him to make an impact. Plus, he brings dimensionality to both ends of the court Gafford just can't match. On defense, Lively is able to change directions multiple times in one possession, effectively covering way more ground and making up for more mistakes (both his own, and those of his teammates). On offense, they're both great at rolling hard and both have good hands on the lobs (Gafford's might be a little better, actually - some of those one-handed dunks are stupidly sick), but Lively's ability to act as a hub in the DHO game with his passing, or to make some of those amazing reads out of the short roll, really set him apart, imho.
I really like Gafford now. I wonder how he'll fit on this new team, but I'm keeping an open mind. What I worry about is how tradable he'll be on this contract in year three of it. As long as he stays tradable, I like the deal.

Phil Handy is no relation to Jack Handy.
