MAVS NEWS:
(07-01-2025, 01:48 PM)HoosierDaddyKid Wrote: Mavs will be fine defending the front of the rim. It's the perimeter that they'll have problems. That's what makes OKC so good with Wallace, Dort, Caruso, JDub, and SGA. POA defenders. D'Lo, Klay, and B'Will aren't POA defenders like those guys. PJ and Marshall are adequate but will have trouble keeping elite ball handlers in front of them. I didn't add Flagg; he gets an INC, as I'll have to see how he adjusts to the NBA.  But he has the potential to be a good one.

I'm guessing Flagg will be more suited to guarding forwards than guards, but we shall see.

Don't compare this team to the NBA Championship... It's a bad start.

If we will make PO it will be a great year for us and Flagg.
That's enough for me.

Oh well, and Fakers doesn't win of course.

It's a good guess, imo.

And what he'll be special at is help side rim protection...which he won't do much of if he's the guy getting blown by above the break.

I forgot about Christie. He seems to have pretty good defensive chops.

For better or for worse I guess he's our best POA defender at the moment

Martin is, but Max is the next best.

Cooper Flagg held a Q&A session with the campers. One asked him to reveal his favorite position on the basketball court.

“I would probably say small forward because I feel like you can do a lot of everything.”

Another asked who inspired him: “My mom & dad inspired me a lot.”

This, combined with the fact that he mentions Larry Bird every chance he gets, is pretty telling about how he sees himself.

He‘s way to comfortable playing at small forward - the goal is to make him feel uncomfortable!

I really like the idea of AD at the 5, PJ at the 4 and Flagg at the 3.  When Kyrie comes back at the 1, all it needs is a legit 2 way SG to be a contender.  Too bad with the current roster construction its more often going to be a center.

The 2032 picks are now tradeable. Here are the Mavs tradable picks:

'29 FRP (LAL) & '31 FRP
or
'30 FRP (SAS swap rights) & '32 FRP

'30 SRP (PHI)
'32 SRP

So, if Nico plans to make an all-in trade out of nowhere, he'll be able to send up to 2 FRP's + 2 SRP's.

My ideas on the starting lineup:

without Kyrie
-DLo
-Klay
-Flagg
-AD
-DLive

with Kyrie
-Kyrie
-Flagg
-PJ
-AD
-DLive
*probably not possible, but that would be fun

The Mavs MUST sign Damien Lillard.
Instant contenders.

He's not going to play until after Kyrie comes back, and it's not likely he'll ever be great again.

I'd take a flyer bet on him for the minimum, maybe, but he's definitely not a solution for this season, so it's pretty tough to get excited about.

It is not about this season. Its about next season. Kyrie is not a PG. Damien, Kyrie, AD, Lively and Cooper.

That's basically an all-star team.

He was great this season. Saying he won't be great again is like saying Kyrie won't be great again. Its just unfounded negativity.

I don't know, man. It sounds good in some ways, but he'll be 35, coming off of an Achilles injury. And, I really don't think he and Kyrie can play together, do you?

I mean, if it's a TWO YEAR DEAL (not a 1+1 that he can opt out of if his rehab is going well) at the MINIMUM, you have to do it, but I think some desperate team is going to do better than that, and the Mavs literally can't. They'd have to dump a player (easier said than done) just to offer him a minimum, and we already think they need to do that in order to sign Exum to help THIS season.

I have some doubts about Kyrie coming back 100%, too, but...you get that ACL and achilles are not the same injury, right?

If Brad Beal gets bought out AND he would like to come to the Mavs on a buyout, do the Mavs want him?
