MAVS NEWS:
@TheSteinLine
The natural response for Dallas, league sources say, is to sound out Dallas coaching consultant Frank Vogel about his willingness to move into Sweeney's chair, but Vogel has been very comfortable to this point to stay in a consulting role while awaiting his next HC opportunity.

If they lose all three of those dudes…that indicates a problem with Kidd, imho. To be great, you need to make other great people comfortable working with you.

IMO it depends on the jobs they’re going after.

Could go beyond Kidd and the organizational structure of the front office.  I'm sure no one had a good time with Luka getting traded.  Alternatively, he could have just assembled a quality team of coaches that are in demand and they are going to chase better money/opportunities to advance their careers.

But Flagg will be The Guy before long. Maybe not in year 1, but soon enough thereafter where you might as well let him assume the role from the outset, as much as he can handle, and grow into it faster.

And imo the growth will come very fast, just like it did with Luka.

Batman plus TWO Robins, that works well.

The problem is that at the time Flagg will be our Batman ... Street clothes & Irving will be our Alfreds.

Could be more turnover on Dallas's bench. Jared Dudley is getting heavy interest from multiple teams, as
@TheSteinLine has reported. I'm told God Shammgod could move as well. Both Sweeney and Dudley are viewed as future NBA head coach's.

So it's never Kidd fault... Harrison&Kidd are the same snake, get rid of them ASAP.

Jay Triano replaced new U of Utah coach Alex Jensen.

Jared Dudley is a Memphis finalist and sought by Cleveland ... with league sources saying the Grizz seek a lead assistant who can forge a strong connection with Ja Morant.

God Shammgod, as close as anyone in Dallas to Kyrie Irving, has strong interest from Orlando.

Another reason why I wish Mosley would have become our head coach.

I think Vogel would be a good replacement. As was Jeff Van Gundy from last year. If Bogel wants another job, it will probably be best for him to get on a bench and get some visibility. I just hope they bring someone who is a veteran. Former head coach would be great. My fear is Kidd prefers guys who know their role. It would be nice to have someone who has experience running a team to give a different viewpoint.

I just have to say that this is a super exciting time to be a Mavs basketball fan. And, yet, I find myself INCREDIBLY conflicted as Miriam Adelson's fingerprints are all over the impending start of WW3 and the ungodly amount of suffering that has gone on already.

Cuban could not have sold the Mavs to a worse, more morally bankrupt person.

If this is true then Kidd needs to be fired.
Kidd is mid.
A weak point.
I love Kyrie but, if his stay in Dallas depends on Kidd, then he can go. Same goes for AD.
Mavs would be Flagg's team in time.

Note:
It's a good thing the Mavs aren't winning next season so I wouldn't mind Kidd at the helm for another year.
But once Flagg is ready, I wouldn't want Flagg's prime years under a coach who's a mid-tier at best.

Top talent demands top coaching.

Ya, I despise the Aldelsons.  I'm shocked I've stayed a Mavs fan.

From Brad Townsend. Weird. Mavs just suck at free agents.

Unfortunately it sounds like Sean Sweeney didn’t want to leave and Mavs just didn’t do enough to keep him.

Nico is not good at his job. Lest we forget, he keeps proving it again and again.

Don't worry, Mavs will not win next season and the season after so Irving, street clothes, Kidd & Harrison will be gone when Flagg hits his prime.

We just need patience, of course this summer IS the summer to clean up the house but it's ok.
Their time here is expired. Luckily for us.

Another Mavs source insists the franchise did in fact try to keep him, but my other source was adamant, as well.

@townbrad
In the end, I’m told, Sweeney viewed the Spurs job as taking on more responsibility, another step to becoming a head coach. Jason Kidd is an established coach with a Finals and 2 conference finals. In that sense, though he loves Dallas, Sweeney had a glass ceiling. It’s more about that than the associate head coach title.

Thanks for adding in.  This was pretty sloppy by Brad.  I am already on high alert for Mavs dysfunction.  Maybe it is true, maybe it is not.  Putting that out there is messy though.  I would like to see a heartfelt message from Kidd and organization.  It probably isn’t bad for Sweeney to leave Kidd and experience something else.  Maybe there is more but I just want to see this organization treat people well and appreciate their work.  It seems like they never do it.

I don't think I have ever heard a better way to explain my concern about the Mavs doing something for the short-term at the expense of a proper and patient build around Mr Flagg/Lively, etc.

Agree. I think there is a chance Mavs can have a good to very good team with their current players. My concern is if they go aggressive with win now players who limit the future. I think there is a chance you try to win now but also keeping your powder dry for when AD and Kyrie age out. Although, Nico is going to want to be proven right....that is when it gets messy.

Young star for old star never works. You could keep Doncic with $$$ but it sounds like the owners did not feel comfortable paying that to a guy with his injury issues so you pray that we could trade our old guys off for something sooner or later but this team seems to think old guys are the way to win. Cooper comes in and plays PG to develop his game this season so I am okay with that since it gets us closer to the time we start to think more seriously about trading off the old farts.
