Any link or quote to what exactly he said.

Though, iirc Cuban said it is about basketball operation, not governer. That could be the difference

Here you go, the article contains Silver answer to this question

Mark Cuban Claims That When He Sold The Mavs The NBA Took Out Language In The Contract That Would Have Ensured He Kept Control Of The Basketball Operations | Barstool Sports

“I think the situation was very different in Dallas,” Silver said. “I think there was a clear change in control of the franchise to Patrick Dumont and his family. Any decision as to what Mark’s role would be in basketball operations was a function of an arrangement to be made between Mark Cuban and Patrick. The ultimate governance was absolutely clear as presented to our board that the last word on any basketball activities or any significant decision for the franchise would be made by Patrick, and I think Mark’s acknowledged that.

“And whether or not his expectation was that he would have played more of a role in basketball operations, I don’t think Mark has ever suggested that there was a contractual issue at play here,” Silver added. “That was just his understanding of what the arrangement would be between him and Patrick Dumont.”

And yet, a year later the Buss family got it in writing and Cuban did not.

One party is lying and I don’t think it’s the NBA given how it’s played out.

Cuban sucks and always has. Maybe the league finally punished him properly for the all the sexual misconduct that happened under his watch.

Cuban could be lying, Occam's Razor says that this is the most likely scenario tbh.

But, I feel like he was played badly, NBA didn't want him there and wanted to help the new owners who has bigger pockets and political connections, without the loud mouth of Cuban

The price  and details of the deals, something doesn't add up, beyong him being stupid

I'm thinking there's something going on behind the scenes that we can only guess about, like when Michael Jordan "retired" for a year then unretired. Cuban seemed to be a MFFL, the owner version, and his selling the team came out of the blue. I thought he was more like Jerry Jones and was going to hang on for life. The NBA is franchises. They own the franchises until they don't. Perhaps there was a rule violation, not publicized that meant "Mark, you're out". Forced out, but they don't want to talk about it, so they make something up.

We have 20+ years of evidence regarding Cuban showing that this is the case.
