2025 draft thread: THE MAVS SELECT COOPER FLAGG
(05-13-2025, 02:54 PM)omahen Wrote: I like the creativity, but I don't think this would happen. Reaves value is way higher than Gafford value, imho. Gafford was basically had for a pick swap (pick swap was traded to OKC for their end of 1st round FRP in 2024) and a very bad Holmes contract. No way he is worth Lakers 2031 pick. White and Reaves are very similar players on more or less same deals, so not sure why Bulls would trade one for the other. Or try playing one with the other.

I agree. I think if Gafford for Reaves was a thing, they'd have found a way to make that part of the original deal.

I also think that while Gafford is probably very attractive to LA, I kind of doubt Reaves is that attractive to Harrison (though I agree that his trade value is probably a bit higher). I think right or wrong, Harrison REALLY only wants to add players who can hold their own on defense, and Reaves isn't that.

I also don't think we'll be seeing DAL/LAL make more deals for a few seasons, at least.

Also agree.  When has a Mavs/Fakers trade ever worked out for us?

Reaves + Knecht + FRP for Powell + Gafford because Rob owes us. Get it done, Silver.

Of course E&Y would never risk their reputation over an NBA lottery so the rigged talk was insane to begin with, but the NBA trying to quell that narrative themselves proactively is hilarious to me.

Dear internet friend, you have an opinion of big four accounting firms that I cannot get behind. You have forgotten why it is no longer big five, I assume? And there’s no need for the entire firm to be in cahoots. It only takes one partner willing to look momentarily the other way. For a lot of money.

Of course it’s crazy to be convinced this happened. But it’s equally crazy to be convinced it didn’t.

Watching the highlights, the teo man game with Flagg is going to be really interesting. It looks like they did it several ways. One way is with a big, where he uses his speed if he gets a lumbering big switched on him. The real interesting one is where he is a screener. Him rolling getting the ball in the lane is deadly. Throw in a big at rim and we could see some of the lob parties that Luka thrived in. Just need some shooting.

Looking aT the team, they are going to want to win now with future flexibility. There roster is big and physical. They just need to find more shooting and creating. I would be surprised if they look for a smaller player.

I still think there's a chance Nico is gone in the near future without being fired. Ever since the Luka trade I've felt he doesn't want to be an NBA GM long term (because if you're wanting to make a long term career out of it then that move seems way too risky, especially since prior to that his stock was shooting up).

I wouldn't be surprised if Dumont and Nico have an understanding that Dumont is giving Nico a chance to find another gig and leave for another opportunity vs getting fired.

Just conjecture of course, who knows how it will actually shake out.

Dallas is not in the lotto if either of these do not happen:

1. AD doesn't get injured right away and misses extended time

2. Kyrie doesn't tear his ACL

So what would have been the "trade" then created by the NBA - since the narrative of Flagg/AD for Luka doesn't materialize.

First, these videos of CF are of a much more aggressive Tatum. Cooper Flagg doesn't "settle" for anything. He loves the paint. He's going to suck defenders into the middle and open up the perimeter.

Second, somewhere in the rotation, there has to be a better shooter than Naj Marshall, Hardy, or Dinwiddie to take advantage of this. I suppose you could move Klay to the bench, but I don't think that solves the real issue.

Zach Lowe was in the room when the balls were being drawn. Pretty interesting conversation about the drama around it.

In the end, the sentiment is that this is the system that every team except OKC signed off on. Those are the breaks.

I love it! Impossible for there to be anything corrupt because there are moving parts! Sound logic!

Memphis did us a big favor protecting our lottery pick in the playin. addition of Flagg makes pj and either of our centers expendable, assuming Davis stays, which will hopefully bring us significant reinforcement on the backcourt. we're just one good combo guard away from being a contender now imho.

With Klay as the starter at SG being our weak link there needs to be some work on getting that position fortified. Our need at PG is also primary but the idea of killing two birds with one stone appeals to me so what we need is a big PG that can hit 3's and play as a wing to maximize the flexability of our team. If possible what about that other kid from duke that played PG and is 6'5" hits 3's at a nice clip 40.5% Tyrese Proctor just have to facilitate someone getting us a mid to late 2nd round pick to snag that. Hits 3 pointers like a SG and plays PG while being an ex teammate of Coopers. https://www.tankathon.com/players/tyrese-proctor

Also another late 2nd could more than replace Gafford. Amari Williams https://www.tankathon.com/players/amari-williams

this year's draft is so deep I wouldn't mind trading some of our solid role players and future picks for another two picks that may possibly bring Flagg's college teammates in town as well.

Waiting to hear how all these moving parts would have worked if Dallas doesn't get in the lotto.

It was not necessary the pay back this year... But with "those moving parts" went in that direction it was easy to fix it all as soon as possible. And here where are.

Welcome home Flagg.

No argument here, dude! You obviously have it all figured out! Sure, it’s a $300 million dollar jet. Sure, the recipient is a felon. But it’s ridiculous to conclude corruption!

seriously the draft was great this year but I expect it will be a long time till something like this happens again. I am just going to go with the flow and enjoy the moment I suggest everyone do likewise we may never get to enjoy another draft result like this in our lifetime.
