The money line in the ESPN article (which highlighted how Nico praised these guys as the best, just a couple weeks ago, despite their terrible results and lack of even meeting basic job requirements) was this note (oh, so typical):

"Harrison declined to comment."

Nico's gotta go.

Nico is a joke. I really wonder how much more does the Mavs need to fire him. No matter what one thinks about his general plan and direction regarding Luka, Mavs can't continue with him, imho. New guy can still continue the vision and who knows, perhaps it will work out. But Mavs will never have the chance with Nico. Every loss, every bad thing will come back to the Luka trade. New guy would be free of that. It wouldn't be his decision to answer for and he could not be held accountable to correct the past he was not responsible for.

Goodbye Harrison. I hope Karma will do his job.

Seriously on what planet does this Dumont-guy live, does he even pay attention to anything in regards to the Mavs? This organization has tanked its perception to outsiders so incredibly fast and bad you really have to wonder under which rock this guy lives. Absolute madness that Harrison still has job.

Meanwhile Bruson and the Knicks are up 2-0 against Boston. Another young stud they have let go in utterly dumb fashion during his reign (& of course with a big dose of Cuban‘s incompetence playing its own role as well).

The staff has gotten worse since relieving Casey Smith of his duties.

What kills me is that Nico waited until AFTER he traded Luka to fire the training staff.

It just seems like anything they do know is just a mess. Even things where it may not even be there fault is messy. I am not sure how it changes with Nico as the point person.

Firing people is tough and it is tough to comment about those firings. Although a month ago they were doing a great job and now they are fired. And no comment Nico.

Just seems everything they touch turns bad. Not sure how they fix it.

They are still trying to cover the collusion dumping the fault on every guy in the organization... It's useless. Trust me.

I agree that losing Brunson hurts, but it was a different time and there were different pressures. Basically, he was JAG with size concerns until that year's playoffs showed how he could carry a team while Luka was out. But the base issue was the contract Cuban/Donnie gave him which: a) was designed to easily dump Brunson if he turned out to be not NBA ready and b) as a result allowed for no retention rights or leverage at the end. Hindsight being 20:20, MBT was being cute with their money when they decided to neither trade nor extend JB at the TDL and it blew up in their faces.

Nico's gotta go. Apart from the roster screw ups this year, he's done nothing but weaken the other team functions, i.e., coaching and medical. I'm guessing he's safe until after the lottery drawing. If DAL moves up, then they may use that to lure in a better GM candidate. If the lottery goes bad, maybe he's still fired as a way of blaming him for the Mav's bad luck.

Actually the issue isn't that they fired Belton (if you read the long story by McMahon on the revolving trainers), but that he was hired in the first place.

Even with a player option looming, Kyrie Irving is still showing the Mavericks love.

Irving gifted Mavs staff members with pairs of the ANTA KAI 1 SPEED "Bag Work", a kind gesture ahead of a massive summer.

Irving is truly one of one. A Dallas Mavericks staffer on Kyrie Irving:

“He gets us right, man. Kai has definitely been the glue for us this season despite the craziness. He's been holding us together.”

If Luka were still here, the Mavs wouldn't have been in the position to draft Flagg.  Also, by the Mavs winning the lottery with one of the lowest odds ever is sending a clear message to Utah, Washington, and Charlotte that it's not a good idea to tank. Atlanta won the first pick last year, with similarly low odds.

The three teams that worked hardest for draft position, were "punished" badly. There must be complete doom and gloom in Washington and Utah. Charlotte at least has LaMelo and Miller from two years ago.

On the other hand, lottery gods really, really, really like San Antonio. They got Wemby and jumped to #2 (from 8) in a what is considered a 2 guy draft.

Btw I would say Philly was rewarded and their tank matched the worst tankers.

The Mavs certainly don’t deserve their good luck, but they did try to win every game this year in this lost season.  Be, they did this in the Lively draft too outside of the last two games.  That year was terrible to watch.  Not as bad as after Feb this year but I think a lot of Mavs fans were hoping for a tank much earlier.

Just imagine we somehow beat the Grizzlies in the play-in, get swept by the Thunder and watch the number 11 team win the lottery. That would have killed the Mavericks franchise for good I guess…
