AD, Martin and Williams are questionable tonight. I assume AD and Williams go. Martin is just a silly tease Smile

PJ Washington is out. This team can't catch a break. He hurt his ankle against the Nets and continued to play. He just can't string games together. This season is cursed.

I'm not exactly sure what Gavin Mulloy's roll was with the Mavs, but he a Cuban had a heated exchange on Facebook.

It starts out with Gavin making a post "Cuban should be run out of Dallas." . Here's what followed. Some of these quotes were not directly at each other specifically.

Gavin Mulloy - "the Cuban cucklords are wild. Guy has always been a dork trying to buy his way into being cool."

Cuban - "yeah. F him. He’s always been a dork trying to buy his way into being cool. "

Gavin - "Go dig up his quotes on the responsibility of an owner of a franchise and being a Shepard of a franchise, to sell to the Adelsons flies in the face of that. He did this to get casino $$."

Gavin - "who hired Nico....Cuban. he has blood on his hands here, he's just doing better damage control than Mavs"

Cuban - "did I miss your complaints when we went to the finals last year ? How upset were you then ?"

Gavin - "bro, this is so "do you like those super bowls, I hope you did very much"."

Gavin - "Better question is why did he tell us he'd remain in control of Basketball Ops and not get that in writing?"

Gavin - "man, he has repeatedly stated that owning a local sports team comes with obligations and you are a sheppard who just steers it. To sell to these folks is a complete rebuke of that ideal, which he understood. Culture > Business. It's why fandom is required. He also lied that he would maintain basketball ops. He would get that in writing, as any business person knows. His office was emptied day of sale. I was there."

Cuban - "Thanks for all the laughs!"

Cuban - "Hey Gavin Mulloy how much of a bonus did you get when I sold ?"

Gavin - "not enough to make up for the Luka trade. I'd give your dirty $$ back for Luka to be here, how about you?"

Cuban - "Gavin you didn’t say a word when it showed up in your account. Did you ? Sure looked good when we made it to the finals didn’t it ?I did every damn thing I could for 23 years. Kept prices lower than not only any nba team , but lower than college teams too. I had $2 tickets for multiple years. When I sold there were always 4k tickets under $29I made money 2 out of 23 years I was the majority owner. Lost hundreds of millions of dollars. And you kept on collecting your salary. So my $dirty dollars didn’t get a peep out of you those 23 years. Or when you got your check every two weeks. Or when you got your bonus Go back to what I said when I sold the team. I didnt want my kids and family to have to deal with people like you. I honestly got tired of the growing number of fans who became pricks on social media. People exactly like you. I paid your salary. I paid you a bonus I didn’t have to give you. The Nico and the new owners do something none of us liked and you decide to try to fuck with me. Thank you for confirming I made the right decision."

Gavin - "Mark if Money was my goal, I'd never take a paycut like I did to work at the Mavs silly. Everyone warns you of how underpaid you will be there. Your staff warns people. You don't get to dodge blame for selling it to the people you did. You hired Nico. Did you lie when you said you were going to maintain basketball ops control, or did you make a terrible business deal by not getting that in writing? People in Dallas see you at fault here and that wont go away. Your PR tour won't change that."

Cuban - "Gavin actually I fully expected to run basketball. The nba wouldn’t let me put it in the contract. They took it out. Just like they won’t let the Celtics put it in. I thought they would stick to their word because they didn’t know the first thing about running a team. Someone obviously changed their mind But that’s in the past. Life is too short to deal with thousands of people like you. It used to be fun engaging with the fans , win or lose, we wanted what was best for the Mavs. We shared in the good and bad. There was always some level of optimism. Even after disappointment Then the whole “get Luka some help “ nonsense started. Non stop online. Then it seemed like it turned into more fun for people to complain than to enjoy the Mavs or the nba Between dealing with the nba and their idiocy and fans like you, it wasn’t worth the non stop shit. Why would I want to keep on losing that much money so I could take shit from people like you , and then my kids could take over and get shit. Why would I do that to them ?I mean I literally left 40m plus on the table so that I could reward the people who worked for the Mavs. Never really thought I would get shit for it. Live and learn. I love the game and the Mavs. But It’s a lot more fun to just be a fan. I was a fan when Perot owned the team. I can be a fan now. MFFL"

Gavin - "so you admit you sold to someone who knows nothing about running a basketball team, with a checkered past and expected them to stay true to their words. Would you call that a good business decision? Or did the money make you not care if the fans got f'ed?"

Gavin - " I don't think it's SCENE yet, me & my folks don't cower."

There was a lot of comments by other people but these are the quotes from Gavin and Cuban.

Good stuff on this Cuban vs. Gavin thing on reddit. Its clear this Gavin guy was an employee of the Mavs.

Reading their messages, I think they are both right. Cuban knew he was selling the team to the devil. He knew they would crash out. He has earned some blame for them making the worst trade in NBA history. Fans have the right to be mad at him.

But i agree with Cuban on selling the team, when he did it, and why he did it. According to him he was losing money and that's probably the main reason. But the family stuff makes total sense too. I can see how just being a fan could be much more enjoyable to him.

I can understand what Cuban means and he is right but between the lines you can see that he feels a bit guilty for what is happening and he is pissed off too.
Nico Harrison was his guy. He can't delete the past.

However the situation in the Dallas area is pretty bad and I don't think the relationship with the owners is fixable.

I sure would like to know who Gavin is. He seems like a real peach and a disgruntled employee. I won’t defend Marks basketball decisions over the years here because that no longer matters to me. But what he is saying does ring true for the most part. In 2001 I moved to those cheap $10 season seats very near the top of the arena. We would often see Mark up there before the game. He did seem to care about the fans and our team. He did seem generous and he has been the King of Loyalty to some of his players. I loved being in the arena both in the 80s in the 5th row and everything in between. ( The annual choose a seat event was my friend as was the opportunity to sell playoff games for a boatload of money).

I think it’s all the training staff’s fault.

Stop with the cutesy sarcasm, because there's a fair chance the training staff does have something to do with it.

Signing and trading for guys that have injuries in their past or who are older isn't a good way to build a team that will avoid injuries enough to contend.

You build through the draft and if you look around the league the teams that are winning lately built through the draft mostly and maybe added one player via trade.

Exum and din get to find a new contract and with our not having any PG thanks to Irving going down it is hard to say they are gone. Depending on where in the draft we end up we may be able to add a PG that could come in and do something first year but I highly doubt it.

Russel Westbrook is a guy that makes sense from a price performance basis. Already 26 years old but he still performs like a starter at times. Ben Simmons is a FA as well barely paid a thin in LAC. That is who I would try to chase and sign if we are watching what we have to spend. I would try to get both.

Williams is a luxury and probably cannot be a 2 way next year
Kai is a must sign based on his performance with the team
Kessler was a great option to have when we were needing him but he is likely to get offers we wont match.
Din and Exum are probably back but I may be mistaken. I certainly hope that they are gone and we draft a good prospect at the PG and better options at the point are available in FA. .

Irving Hardy
Klay Max Martin
PJ Naji Omax
AD
Lively Gafford Powell

that is 12 guys I am pretty certain on their being back here next year barring a trade.

add in who else will you think will carry over.

Din Exum Williams 3 PG's one or 2 may be back Williams is who I would keep.
Kessler I'd call him a SF or WING. He defers to others too much. Lacks confidence when he should show he has an attitude that he can play here.
Kai played well enough I hope we bring him back we need guys with size what with all the injured bigs we will have. He can gaurd a wing and has athleticism and shooting.

3 spots to get to 15 plus 3 spots to add on with 2 ways doubtful we can get that done with any of the 3 we got on 2 ways they are ready to graduate and be real roster spot players.

DRAFT:
PG is the bigger need but with injuries we have had it would be nice to add on a 7' big as well.
Danny Wolf 7', Egor Demin 6'9, Sergio Larrea 6'6, Be nice to add 2 by trading down and somehow get a big like Wolf and a PG .

You add either PG they will take time to develop. Europeans seem to pick up on things faster from what I see so at PG I would go shopping for one of those. Wolf is a nice insurance policy if we loose AD for a big chunk and he is just a rookie that I hope could develop into that.

Say you take on 2 rookies and add some of the 5 guys that are not part of my list of 12. The 2 rooks can get on the 2 way list and prove themselves first. If they play well then there needs to be at least one guy traded with nobody coming back or a guy getting cut at the TDL.

3 of these 5 guys can be on the 15 man roster not sure who can still be on the 2 way but I would not be surprised to see all of these guys playing in the league again next year and most may be on other teams.
DIN
Dante
Kai
Kessler
Brandon

Rookies will find a home on the 2 way contracts and if they progress to rotation early on then they will be offered a contract prior to the TDL. If we add all 3 developmental contract players from last year to the roster I would not be shocked and if we can add 3 rookies that make the roster as well. I would try to see about making them develop more first.

Ringer's updated top 100 rankings

https://nbarankings.theringer.com/

No surprise AD and Kyrie drop in the rankings. Also not a suprise that both PJ and Lively leave the top 100 due to their limited playing time. I have no doubt both Lively and PJ are top 100 players. With a small note, that I really want to see PJ play the SF position as I thought he was a great fit at PF.

So Mavs see their two top players drop and two players leave the top 100.

Stole this from my post in another thread around a week ago. First time I saw Anthony Black last night. He was pretty good. He has gotten bigger though and I am not really a fan of that. He is probably going to be tough to get anyway. The more I think about it, I think either Poole or Sexton will be the targets. IMO the Mavs are desperate for guard play. I think Kyrie typically takes longer to return from injury so you have to probably expect he misses most of next year. The Mavs can't be very good with their current guard play. Before the trade deadline there was a fake trade of Sexton to Dallas for our first and Gafford. I wasn't crazy about that because I really like Gafford and didn't think adding another small guard next to Kyrie was the best way to uses our assets. That has changed. Our pick is higher, so I would try to give a role player instead of Gafford. Still not sure he would be worth the lottery pick. Although he would add guard play we desperately need. Then be a 6th man or trade piece when Kyrie is healthy. Poole is more of a gamble, but will cost less than Sexton.

Jrue Holiday ?- Probably too expensive but will be available
Lonzo Ball ? big injury concerns
Ben Simmons? Not a serious player
DLo? Probably doesn't fit the architect we are looking for
Tyus Jones? Probably similar to what we have and is a backup
Anthony Black? REally young and have not seen him but he would intrigue me. Would take our first probably. Not sure if he is ready for that role though
Jordan Poole? Probably not the fit we are looking for
Jordan Clarkson? Probably not the role we would be looking for
Collin Sexton? Will require a good package being sent to Utah. Do we really want a small guard?
Malcolm Brogdon? Always been a fan, but he is older now. Could be a decent stop gap. Not sure how much time he would get over the current teammates though.

I will need to think more. Ideally this player is a bigger player who can play with Kyrie and also lead the team when Kyrie is out.

I would have Interest, I think.  Only makes 10 million next year.  He is hurt again though.

What makes it tricky is the bulls.  They very rarely make player trades, although they have made a few lately.  Second they are playing really well now so they are unlikely to move a guy like White.  Third, I am not sure what Dallas can offer that makes it worthwhile for the bulls.  Dallas has good players on good contracts.  It is tricky though.  Most of these players lack the tricky upside.  It also makes it trouble for guys making over 30 million.  As it will take at least two good role players and pick(s).  That player needs to be really good and not have a huge salary and where the team is looking to move that player.  Tricky offseason but this team is dead in the water next year if they can’t upgrade their backcourt.

Sort of surprising on Gafford.  Mavs have typically followed having a player doubtful and then next game questionable but playing.  Let’s see if they follow that again.

I don't think that is what Ball would cost -- his price tag should be considerably limited by his injury situation (often hurt) combined with his shooting (always awful) matched to his price tag ($10M is probably too much for such a player, and if you think otherwise, ask yourself if you'd be excited if Exum, a very similar player, was paid like that).

Given that, I think it's possible that a Hardy-Powell package (perfect salary match) would be plenty, if Hardy plays well in the remainder of the season. He should have ample opportunity to impress, as he will have to play a significant role, once Williams is not available, with both Kyrie and Exum out. I would also consider including Martin in addition, or instead of either Hardy or Powell, to make that deal.

SIDE NOTE: In writing the above, I again wonder if we are sleeping on Exum as part of the solution at PG. The injuries are certainly an issue, but in one way they are a blessing, in that they should greatly limit the price tag on Exum. And Exum, when healthy, has the very skill set that's needed here.

Tonight will be Brandon Williams’ last game with the Dallas Mavericks as a two-way contract player this season.

The Mavs could sign him to a standard NBA contract on April. 10th, but it has yet to be determined if they will.
