Exum is worse than Maxi. Time to move on from him unless he wants to play for the minimum and sit at the end of the bench.

That sucks for Dante. Nice role player, just can’t stay healthy. Body isnt made for basketball unfortunately. Mavs need to look elsewhere this offseason. And no that is not a vote for Dinwiddie.

By my counts (including tonight's game):
The Mavericks have 14 games left. Kessler Edwards: 3 NBA games of eligibility left Kai Jones: 11 NBA games of eligibility left Brandon Williams: 6 NBA games of eligibility Mavs do not have enough room to sign a player under their first apron hard cap until April 10, when they will have two games left in their season. This is going to very interesting to monitor over the final month of the season.

Wow, this could get ugly. Williams has three more games. I guess Jaden takes his minutes (and Exum's?). Watching a Hardy and Dinwiddie running a team I think is torture for me. I assume Kai Jones will come back. I really wish we just sit PJ out. No need to bring him back to this mess. Although we may need the body.
Available Mavs: Max Christie Spencer Dinwiddie Kessler Edwards (two-way - 3 NBA games left) Naji Marshall Caleb Martin Dwight Powell Klay Thompson Brandon Williams (two-way - 6 NBA games left) Injured Mavs: Anthony Davis Dante Exum Daniel Gafford Jaden Hardy Kyrie Irving Kai Jones (two-way - 11 NBA games left) Dereck Livley II Olivier-Maxence Prosper P.J. Washington One open roster spot (can't be filled until April 10)

As bad as the Mavs are, it is comical the suns are still behind them. I know they don't own their pick this year (Houston does), but they should have some kind of penalty. Maybe add on another year of Beal's contract for their ineptitude.

They may have to go into forfeiture if it gets to the point that they can't put five healthy guys on the floor. That would sure be interesting.

However, looking at the Mavs' remaining schedule, I see very few wins in their current state. Phoenix, as bad as they've been, could still catch them until I looked at their schedule. Their schedule is a killer down the stretch: Celtics twice, Bucks twice, Cavs, Thunder, Rockets, and Dubs. The Mavs could conceivably still get in, which is crazy in itself.

Will the NBA force the Mavs to stretch waive a player to get far enough below the apron to sign a player or two to prevent the forfeiture of games? Could mean the loss of a quality player and be another hard lesson for the fools running the franchise. I’m pretty sure the league will require the Mavs to take whatever actions are available and necessary to field a game day lineup, just not sure if they have a path to 8 active players every game without drastic steps. I don’t see any special exceptions in the cards either. But a stretch waive of a big enough salary does the trick, right?

I don’t see any special exceptions in the cards either. But a stretch waive of a big enough salary does the trick, right? I have no idea how it works, but there are regularly disabled player exceptions granted for players that are out for the season - why isn’t that possible for Kyrie?
The Mavs issue is that they have no ability to spend any money. They have a hard cap limit, and it's all spent other than a small leftover amount (enough to pay a minimum salary player for a few days, but not even 10 day contract).
The idea of the NBA granting an extra roster space does nothing for them because they have no money to pay a player to fill such a slot - in fact they already have a free roster space (which makes them ineligible for NBA granting an extra slot). From NBA pov, they won't bail out the Mavs. It's on a team to have a GM who can manage its situation properly. In this case, it's Nico's fault for failing to leave a cushion of spending room for just in case. There is no workaround to fix Nico's spending mistake. A s-w is not even allowed during the season. All they can do is play it out, and whatever happens happens. The Mavs have 17 players on the roster that will become 14 as the 2-ways lose eligibility to play. If at some point they don't have 5 of those who can play, it is what it is. Once we get into April they can spend the last few dollars allowed on a rest-of-season deal, for a player who can give them a few days of play, but it's a very limited bandaid. If it comes to forfeits or really shortened lineups, that's just more evidence of the Incredible Ineptness of Nico. Then again, if you have pulled the plug on the season, what does it matter? ![]() • ballsrchr, From Dirk to SCREW YOU Nico, JamesConway912, Jmaciscool, Nowitzki Way, Scott41theMavs, SleepingHero

So stretch waive isn’t allowed at this point to lower your cap? If a team forfeits, they should be hit with the heaviest fine in the history of sports. It’s unacceptable. I’d enjoy seeing Dumont pay a hefty fine.
