+41.
I totally forgot about Kelley's existence truthfully. So even if they don't sign Kai Jones right away I'm not sure we're really missing out.

Tuesday is the last day teams can sign players to two-way deals this season and Dallas plans to waive Kylor Kelley to make roster room to sign Kai Jones on a two-way.
Kelley joined Dallas in late January and made his NBA debut as a Maverick at 27.

I have seen enough. Move me into team tank! I know it is too late to really tank, but I think it will be organic anyway. Against any healthy solid to good team, this team doesn't have the roster or bodies to beat these teams. No matter how hard they fight. I expect them to be 5 games below .500 by the end of March when there is a chance one of the bigs is ready (I am not confident that they will be ready by this date either). If that is the case, the season will pretty much be put to bed and no need to bring back a big who may be limited with condititioning and time limits. They fought for a while, I just don't think there is good vibes right now. The lack of playable bigs is also a huge concern. Now, PJ can't seem to string multiple games together and it appears he is going to need some more time off to get fully healthy.
I think I am going to back away for a bit. Maybe I am wrong and they will prove to be a tougher out and I may post (will definately lurk), but I am expecting a rough next few weeks. I am not ready to watch that type of performance that we saw last night.

They can't tank, they have to show that the trade was not a failure.
They rushed all players recovery.
They are desperated.
Karma is working very well though.

That's a sizeable "talent loss" via the Adelson, Dumont, Harrison contingent.

The Mavs traded them both away

If AD isn’t back soon, the tank will be organic.
I’m thinking the March 6th update will be that he’ll be reevaluated on March 20th.
The other guys on the roster are making it crystal clear there is no legitimate third option behind Kyrie and AD.

Yes, since Quentin Grimes is gone.

Wait though. We were trading away Luka. You mean to tell us there was no one willing to help us find a few Grimes dollars under Apron 2 as part of taking Luka off our hands? No way. Of course we could have rerouted Luka and found room for QG.

Maybe I was not clear enough. Grimes wanted MLE or more, and the Mavs did not think he was worth it. Was their evaluation wrong? Perhaps so, but (a) there's no reason to think he would have been anything in Dallas the rest of the season than he already was, or would have gotten more minutes like in Philly either even more so with Christie being acquired, and (b) he's shown signs that he is NOT the defender we thought, which would explain part of their thinking.

I heard some guy named Marcel (I think) on YouTube say Grimes' agent requested the trade. He said it like it was a known fact. I haven't seen that anywhere, but it makes sense that it might be true. He's not in your plans and you can get back someone of similar quality with a cost controlled contract. So, why not do the guy a favor. I still don't see the need to pay for the privilege, but maybe that cost control versus the uncertainty of a RFA is more valuable than I think.

There was a rumor and it does make sense, but Grimes said he was surprised to be traded which kind of conflicts with the rumor. Either way he was not going to get the minutes because he was blocked by Klay (personally I would have rather had DJJ/Grimes than Klay/Caleb). Still, he was clearly an asset and I am not convinced an injured underperforming Caleb was. Nico has a history of throwing seconds into trades when it does not appear to be necessary.

There were certainly indications that Kidd was unhappy with Grimes (based on playing time), and even a couple of instances where Grimes seemed unhappy with his role & usage.
I think the Max Christie trade made him even more expendable, and he would have been even more unhappy with his role.
Good move, Nico.

I don't think Kidd was unhappy with Grimes. I think the roster construction kept him from getting the minutes that his talent warranted (which is why Grimes was potentially unhappy with his role).
I would argue that even if it makes sense to move Grimes, it does not by definition make the move good. Not only did they give up an asset to make the move (a highly questionable decision) but they also trapped themselves with that trade into not being able to operate in the buyout market or sign someone off the street for more than 10 days. If Caleb underperforms (assuming he ever gets healthy) or is simply trade fodder in the offseason, then it would be really hard to call this a good move.

I think the FO had Grimes pigeonholed as a small-contract player, and were committed to keeping his minutes and usage low for the event that they still had him in the offseason so they could keep him for cheap. I think the two parties soured more and more on each other as the season wore on.
In any event, Martin was a real D-word for not waiving his trade kicker, if he had any inkling of how that would hurt the Mavs. He's already in Rondo/Tariq Abdul-Wahad territory for me and will have to dig himself out of it.

I regularly follow the board but rarely post. I am very appreciative of all the great context that I get from this board. And, like almost all of us, I continue to struggle with the Luka trade. I have had a 10 game weekend season ticket package for over 20 years and going to 10 games plus 1/2 the playoff games has been a big part of my life. This morning, I received the pricing to renew my ticket package by 3/17. While the price for parking stayed the same, the ticket prices for the regular season weekend package are up 12.38% from last year. Interestingly, the option to buy this year's playoff tickets is almost identical to last year's playoff game prices.
This next two weeks will be really interesting as a huge amount of the Mav's arena revenue comes from season ticket holders.
