In all seriousness, Brown was an okay enough big that flashed some good moments. But he’s a 2-way guy at best.

Mavs must be that desperate

Kelly is just bad. Need bodies.

Giving him two 10-days gets them through March 12th. 11 games.

Six different teams sort of liked him for a few minutes. Portland twice.

With that track record, he should at least know how the game is played.

Better than Kelly but probably not a guy who can be counted on. Glad they moved on from Kelly. It is a lot to ask to come in and produce but they had no trust in him with no big guys. No reason to keep him around.

Crazy that Kelly who is 7 feet and brown who is 7’2 are just fighting for a spot. NBA is hard.

This will use up 10 of the 14 days of salary that Dallas has left under their first-apron hard cap.

That’s means the Mavericks won’t be able to sign another player until April 10.

My math might be wrong but I think they can only afford a single 10 day.

If so then maybe they think one guy is coming back faster than we are anticipating.

And I just saw the Keith smith post verifying this is the last signing the Mavs can make this season basically.

Makes me even more confident that they are getting a guy back

I can live with that. He's basically Gafford lite. As long as he does some of that without too many mistakes I'm good.
Find me at Lakersball.com. I'm done with the Nico and the Mavs.

Yep. This is the final move until they add Edwards late in the season. Today was supposed to be the 4-week reevaluation on Lively. Maybe some good news on the front?

I think FG laid this out for us already.  The plan is probably to convert one of our two-way players (probably Edwards) to a standard contract.  We have to do it prior to the last day of the season for him to be eligible for the playoffs.  Edwards has played 26 of his 50 allowed games and there are 26 games left.  So, the margin needed to sign him was before the final two games and with the Brown 10 day we have four games to use.  So the Edwards as the 15th man thing is still on track.

The biggest thing is they decided to use the other days they had available on a 10 day right now.  Brown gets to practice today and will be able to play against NO, GS, LA and Charlotte before his days are up.

oops...when I first saw this I thought it was a two way spot.  But it is a 10 day spot.   Makes more sense now.   Signing Kelly was probably just a break in case of emergency move.    Since then they had Gafford hurt (plus AD who was traded for after Kelly was picked up, I believe).   Kelly wasn't helpful so they are just looking for someone who is capable of playing short stretches when needed.

I think Mavs know the next two weeks are really important.   If they slip under .500, they may have trouble getting their head above water again.

Man, I hope we see a healthy Lively in important games this season.

is it eligible to re-sign him to another 10 day when the current term expires? don't think it possible to sign a third one though, but I hope we can keep his service until at least one of our bigs not named Powell returns.

Looks like he’s added some weight since he was here. If nothing else, he’s more serviceable on the offensive end and doesn’t look completely lost on the floor like Kelly. Wonder why we didn’t sign him in the first place? I’m not certain, but i think he was available.

I don’t think so. We will have only 4 more days of salary left to stay under the first apron.

The kid looks good for sure. I think Powell will retire a Mav but I would love to see this kid as the 3rd center.

The timing was dictated by the timing of the injuries. Up until there was a weird injury epidemic on Mav centers, they had MORE than enough. Gafford, Lively, Powell, and even Maxi. Then AD was added.

Then they all went away after first AD and then Gafford went down, the latter on Feb 10.

At that point, there were only 2 games until the AS break, and the Mavs only had money for a single 10-day period. Why sign a player to a deal covering a stretch of days you don't even play? I believe the timing of this will allow them to have him for as many as 5 games (they have 5 games in 9 days beginning Fri 2/21) if they sign the deal on 2/20. (And if they sign him too early, where they only get 4, how stupid.)

Whether he can actually help, that still remains to be seen. Usually these fill-in guys are not that great (which is why they're still available in Feb). He's been a FA since Dec 9, and his stint with Indy was meh. Since then he's been dominating the GL, with 15 ppg, 15 rpg over 17 games -- but it's the G-League.
