WTF?!  Rather than justice you hope he keeps his job?!?!

If there is any truth to his hitting a woman in the face with a pistol, I hope he serves hard time and his completely blackballed from the league.

The interesting similarities to Kidd..  alcoholic, woman beater...

Assuming reports are accurate I'll be very disappointed if he keeps his job

Seems like this isn't his first run in with alcohol/ legal/issues: https://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2025/2/16/...dly-weapon

Prior history of alchohol-related incidents and violence.  Obviously he's owed a presumption of innocence until proven guilty, but if guilty his career as a coach in the NBA is over.

Innocent till proven guilty but yeah. This doesn’t look good at all. Armstrong shouldn’t have the privilege of having such a competitive job if this is how he represents the franchise in his outside life.

He was arrested for DUI and also passing bad checks before during his tenure with the Mavs, so maybe he outlasts even this if he doesn’t get thrown in prison.

So.. hypothetical:

If Kyrie were accused of the same thing, would your response be the same?

If not, then you’re not really after justice.

So you label me before I answer, lol?  Yes.  If the precise same situation was for Kyrie, I'd want him suspended until trial.

I appreciate your consistency.

Also the hard time and being blackballed?

hitting a woman with a gun was lame but it ain't as bad a crime as trading away your franchise player. don't see no problem he keeps his job as long as shithead who's done things much worse stays.

Calm down, dude!  I realize my comment wasn't appropriate and I shouldn't have said it. It was tongue-in-cheek about what's been happening with the team the last 3 weeks. If he's guilty of the charges, then by all means he needs to be punished to the full extent of the law. I don't condone jumping on, beating, and pistol-whipping women. My apologies.

Have the Mavs given any update on dwight? Mavs just need an NBA body who can play 20 minutes or so a night at center. With PJ back that will add another good sized body. A PJ/Edwards front court could at least be ok on defense. Although, they just need 20 minutes of competant center play. Powell can mostly do that. Just can't expect too much. He will play hard and limit the mistakes. He would probably take the Omax minutes.

Question: Dallas has a 16.2 million trade exception from the Hardaway trade. They may or may not be able to use this with their cap position. My question, how could this potentially be used for a trade that involves KD or another big name player. For instance, could this be traded with an asset for a player with a team option and then moved in a bigger deal? Or is that trade exception probably just lost in the wind?

I watched some KD highlights over the past few weeks. He is just so damn good. Still. I just wouldn't want to gut the team for him.

@CBAMavs
I believe we used our THJ trade exception to absorb Martin

To put into perspective of how bad the injury curse has been, here’s every time Shams has reported an injury for a Mavericks player:

10/2/24 - Luka Doncic (left calf contusion) out for one week.
10/4/24 - Dante Exum (right wrist surgery) out until end of January.
11/21/24 - Luka Doncic (right wrist strain) will be re-evaluated in one week.
12/25/24 - Luka Doncic (left calf strain) will be re-evaluated in a month.
1/6/25 - Kyrie Irving (bulging disc) expected to miss 1-2 weeks.
1/22/25 - Dereck Lively II (right ankle stress fracture) expected to miss 2-3 months.
1/25/25 - Maxi Kleber (broken right foot) to be sidelined for an extended period.
2/10/25 - Anthony Davis (left adductor strain) out for multiple weeks.
2/14/25 - Daniel Gafford (right MCL sprain) out for at least six weeks.

Still going into All-Star Break with a 30-26 record.

This tweet doesn't even add in all of the times we missed Naji, Klay, Grimes, and so many others to that mysterious illness.

Honestly after reading this article, its a disgusting puff piece that offers little new info. If anything, I am left with more questions now than previously. If Nico is such a good relationship guy, the same guy that signed Luka to the Jordan brand, how was he unwilling/unable to get Luka to lock in? Sure you can lead a horse to water and all of that, but even still.

The one glaring piece of new info was the confirmation of how bad Nico is at negotiating.

"Those who know Harrison best insist that once he trusts someone, he turns transparent as glass. One person from a rival front office that has talked trades with Harrison described him as “almost too honest.” His goal, the person said, is to build a relationship with the other team, acting as forthright as possible."

Insane that the dude who is apart of some secret Nike rep group, who moves in the shadows, that is SO secretive that not even his own mother knew of supposed deals that he makes, is the same dude that is so forthright in trade negotiations that he loses all leverage.

1 You cannot combine a NS TE with anything else to take back a player with a larger salary.  Obviously that doesn't work re KD's massive salary.
2 But if the Mavs opt to be a team over the 1st Apron (as it appears they are going to have to do), they can't use their NS TE's they have now anyhow.
3 Using a NS TE in essence adds that amount of extra salary to your payroll, which is contrary to what the Mavs will need to be doing to cram 15 players under Apron 2.

That having been said, I can fashion a trade that does add KD and leaves a core of talent for 2025, allowing for hard cap room under Apron 2 to fill the roster back up, and the result would look like this.

Outgoing in KD trade (about $12M of which would have to go to a facilitating 3rd team) would be
Klay, Gafford, Martin, Marshall, Powell, OMax, Hardy, 2025 1st, other draft capital

The 2025 Mavs roster then looks like this:

C -  Lively, minimum, minimum
PF - AD, Edwards (minimum), minimum
SF - KD, PJW [backs up both forwards], minimum
SG - Christie, minimum, minimum
PG - Kyrie, Exum ($7M), Williams (minimum)

You also almost certainly move forward in ensuing years as a team OVER Apron 2, with the penalties that flow from that. And your peak window is probably about 2-3 years.

"When Harrison traded Dončić to the Lakers, negotiating with only the trusted Pelinka, he chose not to hold out for every tidbit Los Angeles could throw in a deal, most notably leaving 18-point scorer Austin Reaves, rookie sharpshooter Dalton Knecht and a 2031 first-round pick on the West Coast."

As long as this remains a mystery, Nico will have to live with the local anger. I can see a path where he might get a championship and some credibility back.

But I can't see a path that will ever explain the return in this trade.
