Trade & FA 2024-25:
The thing is, this isn’t going to go away. He’ll eventually have to answer to this move. Especially considering how we all know how it’s going to go.

When the Mavs are even worse than before we’re going to be calling for heads to roll.

Can’t believe it man. Not even a year removed from the finals

Fox going to San Antonio per sham. Kings get Lavine. Haven’t seen what else.

Haynes says three first round picks too
So spurs get fox for nothing. We give Luka away. Great.
[Scotto] Dallas previously discussed Maxi Kleber in exploratory trade talks with the Indiana Pacers for forward Obi Toppin before including him in the Doncic trade, league sources told HoopsHype.
The addition of Max Christie is also noteworthy, given the Mavericks and Quentin Grimes were apart during extension talks before the season, league sources told HoopsHype.

Grimes has a tiny bit of the Grant Williams vibe. Has produced well in certain situations, but clearly doesn’t have Kidd’s confidence.

Also feels like he’ll be dealt soon. Not a cultural fit.

Which I think is silly because unlike Grant, Grimes produces.

Seigel] "Lots to unpack with the Warriors, who attempted to make some big swings over the last 72 hours. Not only did they call the Suns last week about Kevin Durant, but they also held deep talks with the Bulls about LaVine AND Vuc. Everything then shifted to Butler, which fell apart."

I honestly think Butler might be a Mav after the deadline. I don't know how, I just have a feeling.

Please do not confuse this prediction with an endorsement.

This makes no sense.  Grant underperformed and was annoying in the locker room.  Grimes has been a strong positive and no hint of him being a locker room issue.  Kidd clearly has an issue with him, so he probably is gone, but who cares at this point.

Agreed, but I don't want anyone to think I'm suggesting that if they get Butler this is all ok. I find that the loss of long term hope is more and more crushing with each passing hour, and I have very little hope of any form of near future success alleviating that hurt, even another finals run.

Dude was 25 years old, coming off of five straight All NBA first teams. It's still sinking in, honestly.

How can we match Butler's salary?

Even Klay, PJ, and Gafford isn't enough. And I don't see Gafford being traded with Lively hurt. Hard to see Klay getting traded either.

You're probably right.
At least we didn't trade Luka for Butler.

[Highkin] The Portland Trail Blazers are openly shopping Jerami Grant, Anfernee Simons, and Deandre Ayton. Blazers open to trading Robert Williams III, but they have a high price for him.

It takes at least 45M outgoing (to stay under Apron 1) and maybe 49M (to stay under the tax line). That's almost an impossible package - once you get past AD and Kyrie, the next 3 biggest salaries together (Klay, PJW, Gaff) only total 44.77, putting you 2.3M below Apron 1 but with 3 empty roster slots to manage. And I don't think the Mavs would trade all that for Butler.

I only see one workaround. What would you think of this one?
Kyrie + Naji FOR Butler

Butler ends up with the ball, creating the offense. Backup PGs are SD and Exum. Can you live with that?

How do you feel about PJ playing significant minutes at the 3?  Should we dangle him for a real wing?

I'm washed when it comes to CBA stuff but that 3 for 1 works on Fanspo
But is it actually legal? who the hell knows
We're gonna have to go for someone with a lot less salary. Even a guy like Simons from Portland, youd need two major rotation players to match his salary.
