On the contrary, he seems more like a '24-'25 Maverick than ever.

How so? This injury including rehab will keep him out probably well into March/April, at which point he’d need to ramp up and by then we’re in the playoffs. Hardly an ideal scenario to bring back a new player who should be playing big minutes.
Plus with what it’d cost to acquire him we’d be hampered far too long for comfort given how fragile this team already is.

Stein has said he's the most likely Pacer to be traded.

Not a fit for Dallas as he makes too much as a backup, but I wonder if Patrick Williams is a reclamation project. Former high lottery pick, good height, solid skills and still young. Can a team put him in a roll where he plays off a star (s)? Sort of a PJ prototype. You could probably get him for very little.

Any idea from Stein what Indiana might be looking for? Because, as much as I like Toppin (and I really do), his role here would be first big off the bench at best. He's not better than PJW, and my guess is that he wouldn't play ahead of Gafford, either, making him no better than 4th in the pecking order at the 4/5. Possibly equal to Gafford in role, but possibly not even.
That's an improvement for the Mavs, but maybe not worth what it might cost to get him, right? I like the player, but wouldn't want to give up Grimes for him, just as an example.

Does Torrey Craig have anything left in the tank?
I know he is currently injured but he might be some nice cheap veteran depth to add to our wing situation for the POs.

Stein said they offered him Naji contract (I think 3/27). Makes sense from Mavs standpoint as he was coming off strange season, but we can all see why he bet on himself. I still think there is a good chance we get him for roughly MLE and he becomes long term piece.

I've been looking at players in the $13mm area and below with Maxi/Hardy/2025 as my presumed outgoing. You can play around with Powell and/or Exum if you want and get the number up a little. The reporting that Grimes might be packaged bumps the upper end of the range for incoming salary even more. But, I think most agree that would only be done begrudgingly and for just the right player with just the right fit.
I've kind of quickly dismissed conversations that brought back guys making in the mid-20's in my thinking as being too disruptive. But, the DLLS guys threw out some names in this range today. They mentioned lower salary guys like Nance, Boucher and Stewart and higher salary guys like Isaac and Collins. Bobby Karalla was particularly high on Collins as a 4/SB-5 replacement for both Maxi and Gafford. He clearly hasn't read FG's apron stuff here on the board.
There is one player that does the 4/SB-5 thing and who makes enough less than Collins to make the math work better. Draymond for Maxi/Gafford? You'd have to run with 14 players to make the 2-for-1 work. It would definitely add to the D.
Lively PJ Luka Grimes Kyrie
Green Klay Hardy, Dinwiddie

I think Patrick Dumont needs to come on the message board and inform us on the financial stance of the new ownership group, so we can make informed trade suggestions.
With Cuban I knew to
1) not break the luxury tax threshold
2) trade the 1st round pick
3) look at players over 30
4) trade a bunch of 2nd round picks to fix the mistake of the player over 30 from last summer
Since Obi Toppin came up, I thought the more interesting name on the Pacers for the summer was Jarace Walker as a buy low candidate. Carlisle might be tempted by Kleber and it actually saves the Mavs money.

Hmmm...I like that idea, too. Could you or Mr. Gump remind us why that's not possible? I'm pretty good at following those conversations, but I'm getting worse at maintaining a memorized working knowledge of those issues, unfortunately.

How can you say that? He makes Maxi money.
