Game 10: Dallas Mavericks (5-4) vs. Denver Nuggets (6-3)

Also, Grimes getting DNPCD’d 10 games in wasn’t on my Mavs ‘24-‘25 bingo card. Kidd must really be disappointed in him.

Kyrie Irving has been the team’s best player so far this season.

Jokic is so obviously the best player in the league. He should have won those 4 MVP’s in a row.

That was maybe the first time I’ve ever seen Gafford make a play out of the short roll. Definitely the best one I’ve seen him make, if not the only.

If the Mavs miraculously win this game, I'm going to reach through the internet and slap anyone who votes for anyone other than Kyrie for the Dirkie.

Welp, so much for that.

Well, at least it wasn’t a Luka step back 3 from the logo this time.

The poor performance trend in clutch situations is a bit concerning, but plenty of time figure things out.

Has to be one of the worst losses ever. What a joke of a team. Most underachieving group I’ve ever seen. Luka completely lost this one on his own. Mavs are already falling to far out to be a factor. Kyrie should be the team’s representative in the all star game this year. Luka needs to become a pro next year and for once come into a season ready to play.

Wasted really special efforts from Kyrie and Gafford tonight.

Klay Hardaway continues to struggle.

It’s not that bad, my dude. Mavs lost a nail-biter, IN Denver, which is a mile high, trying to compete with Jokic without their THREE best big defenders.

It’s disappointing they are struggling to close out close games, but I’m honestly surprised this one was close.

I hope Klay starts complaining, when he´s moved to the bench for Marshall, so we can trade him without facing backlash from Luka/Kyrie. I thought he was supposed to shoot 40% from three with all the attention from Luka/Kyrie.

41.8%
35.4%
100.0% (7 attempts)

Take out the first game of the year and he´s shooting 32% from three.

Meanwhile THJ shooting nearly 50/50/90. Ouch.

It's sad that I expect them to lose close games at this point. I'm not sure there are enough players that give a damn on this team. No pride so far.

I hope they’re considering moving him to the bench, actually. Two birds, one stone. More defense in the starting lineup, more bench scoring, which is officially a concern.

Kyrie played one of the greatest games I’ve seen in franchise history. It’s a shame we can’t give him a Dirkie.

Grimes really screwed himself. At this rate, he'll be playing for league minimum next season if he can't get out of Kidd's dog house. He should have taken the contract and I have a feeling he would be playing better right now if he had. He would be much more relaxed instead of worrying if he cost himself 9 million per year or not.

There might be something to this line of thinking.

Mavs will get this ship going in the right direction, but it's been a very frustrating start to the season. They need to get going sooner than later though if they want to be a top 4 seed.

They’re in 11th place. It’s going to take 56-57 wins or so to get in good playoff position (unless we’re counting on another fluke dark horse run). Luka looks washed. He’s been horrible. Tonight was rock bottom for him. What was that idiotic shot with a minute left?  He did the same thing last game. Klay looks like he’s barely breaking a sweat. Kidd is back to playing idiotic lineups. Management or the coaching staff are prioritizing strong arming a player into signing a team friendly contract over building a viable rotation. The refs are disgusted by the Mavs and are going to screw them all season long.  It’s looking bleak.

Also I've really thought it was important for Klay to start, but I've come around on this. They need to start Naji and make Klay a super 6 man. Just give him the Jason Terry role and let him light it up. He doesn't get enough consistent looks with the starting lineup. He'll shoot better with regular touches. Naji looks like he might be able to take this team to another level if he was starting and once everyone is healthy.
