The Houston Rockets are a team to keep an eye on if Jimmy Butler becomes available, per
@TheSteinLine
“The Rockets are also increasingly mentioned by monitoring rivals as a team to watch should Miami ever reach a point that it chooses to explore its trade options with Jimmy Butler, who grew up some 30 miles away from Houston in Tomball, Texas.”

Grimes in no shape or form can replace Kyrie. He hasn't played consistent minutes in 2 years. He was the starting two guard in NY, then got benched, then traded. I'd be careful signing him to any long term deal.

As a Grimes homer, no. He will never be close to Kyrie from an offensive creation standpoint. Best case he is a reasonable replacement for Klay in the starting lineup eventually.

Hardy hasn't proven himself to be an NBA starter. He got backup money.
Grimes, unless proves otherwise this year, isn't an NBA starter. He will get backup money.

Giannis Antetokounmpo could force his way out of Milwaukee, per @sportsreiter
"There's a rising sense of confidence that if things go badly in Milwaukee that Giannis could be available for trade, would really force his way out of Milwaukee, in the next year."

Sitting here, just 4 games into the season, I don't blow up DAL to get Giannis. I'm liking the vibe developing here. While everyone realizes it's still a business, I think it's important to continue building the culture rather than just trying to buy a superstar. That's more of the Cuban-era MBT thinking.

Depends on what they'd take. If MIL would take a package not including Luka/Gafford/Lively, you do it.
It looks like players can't be combined with Giannis, which will make a trade pretty difficult.

Oh they would absolutely ask for Lively. I’ve said this before but the only way we are getting him is if he says “do everything you can to get me to Dallas.” It’s more likely he would have a list of places- “Dallas, Miami, LA, NY.” We just have to hope OKC or SA are not on that list.
Minimum it takes Lively, every available pick, Omax, Jaden, Maxi, Naji and that’s not even near enough. I don’t think it’s even enough salary to match.

What if Lively becomes Giannis? Or reaches something like his talent level? I don't know that that's likely, but given how quickly he has grown as a player, I don't think it's 100% out of the realm of possibility. I'll take the player who is cheap now, thank you.

I'm out on Giannis. I don't think we could pay the price it would take and field a championship level team. As great as he is, he can't shoot and that's a no go for me. Lively has too much potential to trade him for anybody imo. If they wanted to give him up cheaply, of course you do it, but that isn't going to happen.

I tend to agree. Lively is amazing and only getting better. PJ, same. It would decimate our depth assuming we could even pull it off (which we can’t!)

If I was Giannis, and know that the team I ask to get traded to will need to give up the farm to make the trade happen (which should be an important condition in the decision making process)... no way am I coming to the Mavericks, unless Luka shows that he is serious about getting fit, and staying fit... which is what he needs to do if he's serious about winning titles. Or else, I'll have to work my a55 off on defense to cover for him, and still may not end up winning anything. It's not a bet that I'd be willing to take right now, even though I'm a huge fan of Luka's game on offense.

LOL Giannis +1, rest of Bucks starters anywhere from -20 to -25.

Not only is a Giannis trade practically impossible for the Mavs given they'd have to decimate the entire team to match his salary, (or completely reshape what this team is by throwing Kyrie in there, a scenario I find too implausible to entertain casually), it wouldn't even make a lot of sense given Giannis' fit next to Dame.
There is very real documented evidence now that Giannis does not work well next to a score first guard. The way Giannis sets screens are always trying to set him up to score, vs. trying to get Dame to score. That dynamic alone would make me wary on how he'd fit with Luka. We kind of already saw a soft version of that with KP.
Add in the fact it'd take Lively too, I am so out on any potential Giannis trade. I love him as a player, and if he was a FA that took a paycut to come here, then I'd be all for it. But as things stand I wish him well and hope he stays in the east.

Mavs have no shot at Giannis anyway. Someone like OKC with a bazillion picks maybe.

To me, at team like Dal, OKC or MEM, who appear to be developing cultures of "we are all in this together" would suffer because acquiring Giannis-level talent turns them into "we all here to support him".

How in the heck do you trade for a superstar with two years left on his contract at close to 60 million per year. Any team that trades for him would have to gut their current team. Or throw so many picks at a team that it overwhelms them. There are only a few teams that have a ton of picks. I don't see OKC doin anything. Utah is too far away. I saw mention of Brooklyn yesterday. Maybe they are an option but that would be starting over for Giannis. There are not many options. Just leaves SA....nevermind, nothing to see here. Ugh.

Or maybe Houston? They could be a possibility. FVV (to match salary) + Jabari and Amen + picks.

Yeah good point. Yes, they should definitely be considered. Young talent, picks and a spot players like to live.
