Giannis completely braindead defensive play at the end cost them any small chance.

I know you're joking, but Powell is a good player. Would be just fine as a backup 5, and now he's getting paid like one.

Some of you have been keeping up with this better than me, so correct me if this is inaccurate, but based on highlights for this game and some of the warm up games, it seems like there are a lot of teams out there who can stick with the US for a quarter or two, but Team USA is just killing them with depth. The US second team would probably still be a contender, if not the favorites, right? It's their bench that nobody can match.

Pretty much

The game vs. South Sudan, the US couldn't hit a shot to save their life. And there was barely any cohesion offensively which led to your-turn-my-turn stuff.

That let South Sudan almost pull off a miraculous upset, but Lebron just took over at the end. That was the closest game out of all the friendlies and one could also argue that team USA really didn't give their best against them.

Every other game the US has just overcome all deficiencies with pure star power for the entire game. Serbia consistently overloaded Lebron's side and sent 2 with Curry but in doing that you leave Kevin freaking Durant wide open.

The amount of sheer talent on the court at any given time is too much for most teams to overcome. Only France really has a shot just because they have 2 top 30 NBA players on top of a slew of good role players in the NBA.

US would definitely win a seven game series against any given team in the tournament but with single elimination there is a small chance that France or Germany catch them on a bad day. Ignoring the US France has by far the most talented roster. Germany is probably the best "team" in the bigger than the sum of its parts sense and looked really good in the last few matchups against the US (including the friendly last week).

Today they went on big runs whenever Jokic was on the bench (they actually lost the minutes with Embiid on the floor). With incredible 3-point shooting (18/32 56%). Not sure if that is sustainable but they are certainly creating enough wide open looks for elite shooters to stay in the 40-45% range.

It's exactly what you said. Nobody can match the depth of talent on Team USA. Especially not when people like Embiid "defect" from the country that they should play for. The 2nd team should be favorites too.

The funniest pre-Olympics story out of the USA was their concern that Embiid would get in foul trouble and it would hurt Team USA. Meanwhile every international coach shared that foul trouble concern, cause contrary to what the US "experts" think, they all want Embiid on the floor for 40 minutes. Big Grin

As expected. Powell is by far the best Mavs player in the tournament Big Grin
Dominating the offensive board. Most important player on defense. Looks like a completly different player in a switch-all scheme.

Canada beat Australia. Powell had 7 points and 9 rebounds.

Exum came off the bench for Australia and finised with 15 points, 2 rebounds, two assists. Green goes 0-2 for 0 points.

Btw France are the most overrated team in the whole tournament. Life and death with Brazil and Japan.
