Klay Thompson:

Klay Thompson on Kyrie Irving's recruiting impact: "He actually was one of the first people to text me just how grateful he is to be here—how the city has embraced him, how the organization has embraced him..."

Naji Marshall and Quentin Grimes when they heard Klay Thompson would be a Maverick:
Naji: “I told everybody we were going to win the championship.”
Quentin: “We’re gonna get a ring.”

I really enjoyed the entire press conference. I thought all the new guys seemed genuinely excited. Klay seems super fired up about trying to win multiple championships. He's still super confident and thinks he can defend. He mentioned defense several times. He said all the right things. They all did really, but Klay was asked the most questions by far. I really get the sense that Klay was kinda checked out last season or just super unhappy or a combo of the two. I think we are getting a rejuvenated Klay that wants to prove everyone wrong about him as far as his decline. He kinda alluded to not being an all NBA player anymore, but says he still has a lot of great basketball left in him. He said he's willing to do anything for the team as long as it leads to winning basketball. That may have been his issue last year with coming off the bench and they still sucked.

Klay Thompson compared Luka Dončić losing his first Finals appearance to Dirk Nowitzki: "Just very little adjustments from getting over the top. Dirk went through it in his first Finals. Luka did, too. We're knocking on the door. That's what really got me excited to be here."

And what did you think of Najo Marshall saying that his hidden talent is "everything" ??
I don't know about you, but he reminds me a little of Lance Stephenson's approach, style and game, including his ability to do crazy things in the game.
I think we're going to really like this guy too.

100% agree. Watching some of his highlights he reminds me a lot of Lance Stephenson.
I mean look at how he's gripping his jersey in that pic, the dude is a monster lol

Thank you for all the updates.
And yes Naji Marshall does remind me of Lance Stephenson, which is why I was initially upset about the signing. I don't like watching knucklehead players like Lance and Javale McGee. Willing to give him a chance. We had a knucklehead on the title team, Deshaun Stevenson, that worked out alright.

Deshaun Stevenson was crazy, but he was on a team with a winning culture that channeled his greatest strengths (defense) to help the team. Really putting him on a dysfunctional team was terrible.
The same thing should be true for Naji. I think we'll get the best of him. I don't believe he's going to look at Luka, Kyrie and Klay on his side and decide to do something crazy.
Note: I think I'm Lance's biggest fan, I loved watching that guy play and do stupid things, especially because he's not on my team, but I confess that I would go crazy if he were a Mavericks player.

This sort of approach and outcome is huge. It's about fitting in salaries, and every player on a reasonable number makes the total talent level more workable.
I think the Mavs approach to who's paid what is less random than before. Rather than "pay what it takes" it's focused on what the player is worth AND what the team can afford. IMO that was done a year ago with Kyrie and JG and the outcomes were way more useful.

Assuming this is true, it's significant (but I guess you can look at it as a plus or a minus).

Why in the world would his being healthy be a minus? If one isn't a Hardy stan, that is.

Grimes was awful last year. Abysmal, on 2 diff teams, both of whom wanted his best, both had high hopes -- and then both gave up and looked for someone to take him. Fairly cheap.
The excuse for his poor play was that he was injured. But, if he wasn't .....
