Mavericks Hall of Shame
#21
Devean George. dick breath almost killed the kidd trade, he was involved in it in the original proposal but the proposed trade would cost him some kind of rights so he could reject it, thankfully we found a way to get it done in the end by signing KvH out of retirement lol.

For me, it's probably either Porzingis or Boban, from semi-recent seasons. That DAJ year was tough but didn't last very long. I definitely didn't enjoy either of JaVale McGee's stretches here. Not sure who, from all time.

You've got issues if you hate Boban. That dude is one of the nicest guys. My pick
would be Justin Anderson (Simba). For not living up to his potential.

Wow, you doubled down on the edit to make this even MORE pointed. “Issues,” you say?

You think Boban is good at basketball? I could say an awful lot of mean things about someone who believes that. I won’t, because I’m nice.

Look, hate is a pretty strong word. I was making a point about how much he's so liked around the league, basketball skills not withstanding how could you hate him?  But since you got so salty about my comment, I'll leave it there. Damn..

The word hate is in the OP of this thread. Sports hate isn’t a serious matter, and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

I was extra careful to qualify my suggestion of him with (as a basketball player). This was supposed to be a fun thread, and I HATED watching Boban play basketball. Sorry if it offends you, but it’s the truth. I’ll say it again next year. I’ll say it again in a decade. Boban on the court was one of my least favorite things in Mavericks history.

I’ll leave it there. Damn…

What about Derek "I want to get out of my contract to spend more time with my family but then show up on the Thunder roster a month later" Fischer? Or maybe he wasn't a Mav long enough to count?

If Rondo counts, Fischer counts. Serious contender.

What's really cool is when a "most hated" Mav completely flips the script and becomes accepted. I vividly remember how on an older version of the board Json Terry and especially JJ Barea were DESPISED. I used to stick up for Terry the way I've been sticking up for Hardaway these past few years, and both of those dudes have become low-key Mavs royalty due to one magical post-season run.

In a way, that's what makes sports great.

My piggyback question to the OP is: What are some Mavs we hated for a while, but who won us over in the end? I'd think the two I mentioned would be good mentions, as well as Jalen Brunson, who didn't have much support around here early.

Rondo hands down...
Lamar Odom
DeAndre Jordan
Before he was a Maverick - Nick Van Exel, after he was a Maverick - Ef'em
Eric Montross
Derek Fischer
Al Wood
Jamal Mashburn (with his advisor Rick Pitino)
Toni Braxton
Martin Muursepp
Uwe Blab (the entire '85 draft if I am being honest)
Adrian Dantley
And from the ownership box, we have Ross Perot Jr. and President of Basketball inOperations Frank Zach - the Hack - anelli.

Bros as great as this week has been this was a jaunt down a dark path!!

Yeah, JJB was the first guy that came to mind.

Maybe Vince Carter? I feel like he took a little while longer for most to warm up to.

Oh, interesting? Do you mean, you hated him on other teams and so it took you a while to warm up to him being a Maverick, or do you just mean the way he played here?

I feel like when he first signed he had a reputation as not being a team player (at least that's what I'm remembering) but then he really bought into the 6th man role and changed everyone's view (even before the San Antonio shot).

Antoine Walker is a GREAT one!

Kurt Thomas? I remember good things about him, but maybe that was too far back into my younger days to appreciate what you're talking about. What didn't you like about him? Bad on the court? Attitude?

I was waiting to see if Antoine Walker made it.

No disdain for Christian Wood? Danny Manning? Kevin Willis?

But yeah Rondo has to be the worst. Odom second. McGee is up there.

Others who made a forgettable stint here: Stoudemire, Eddie Jones, Dennis Rodman

Edited to add Noel.

Toni Braxton definitely assassinated the 3 J’s, and never even attempted to untreated heart of thousands of mid 90s Mavs fans.

Underrated selection there.

Mark Aguirre, too, for forcing his way out. But Romeo got a backcourt violation while unguarded. He quit on the stool. I know he was the sunken cost necessary to being Mavs legend Dwight Powell to Dallas, but Rondo is a basketball terrorist.
