Trade & FA 2024-25:

Man if I were the Jazz, I would absolutely love the idea of shorting Golden State. Steph turns 37 next year. They've just paid a bazillion dollars in luxury taxes. Get Kuminga in the deal and get a bunch of their picks. Then just sit back and watch them age out of relevance.

I'd rather he go to Golden State than San Antonio for exactly that reason, the Warriors are already on their way out.

We don't need a 3rd center though.
Just think, 2 years ago the Mavs starting 5 was:

Luka
Dinwiddie
Bullock
DFS
Powell

I like to not recall Powell ever being the starting 5.

The most money they could take back in such a deal is 15 mil (on the dot) and have 2 spaces for vet min contracts, but they'll be very close to the 1st apron line.

Would you guys do Maxi+Powell+2 2nds for DFS?

Cause that works as well.

Not exactly a positional need after the lastest moves but after his season ending injury his value is probably at an all time low. Is S.Bey available for the BAE?

*But this means Morris is not returning.

can hire him into our coaching staff imho. would be a good choice to teach our bigs shooting, and some fighting skills as well.

The speed at which the value of players changes, especially in basketball, is...idk, but values change significantly all the time. So much, that it is often difficult even for junkies like us here to really understand them clearly with only a little distance in time.

Thus, without precise performance metrics, you are obviously lost.

Remember when Kamm matter of factly predicted Harrison would almost completely turn the team over in about two years' time?

I think it's only Luka, Kleber and Powell left, at this point.

Kleber for Portis gets the Bucks under the 2nd apron...I'm just sayin

Hollinger predicted that he will get closer to a 1 year vet min "prove it" type of deal given his knee injury and relatively icey shooting the last season and a half.

Two years ago, the roster was underwhelming.

Now...

Luka
Kyrie
Klay
Washington
Lively

Between these top three players, how many playoff games is that? How many all-star games?

Without giving it much thought, the current roster is likely the most talented Mavs team ever assembled, and Lively will almost certainly be an all-star himself. It's probably a younger team than the team that won it in 2011. The rotation looks stronger than it ever has, and the salary hit is manageable by most of today's measurements. On top of that, the Front Office is now a proven commodity.

Naturally, any team could catch the injury bug, and getting to the finals certainly not a given in this conference. OKC will even be the favorite in the West I suspect. But isn't nice to be a Mavs fan when the roster looks like this?

I mean Damn!

I know there are serious concerns about how this might fit together, but looking back on this point last year, there was so much more up in the air.

The Mavs will start training camp KNOWING who their starting 5 is, even if WE don't know yet who will start at center. I think that's an underrated angle here, considering how much it will help, early season

The Mavs have their CLEAR franchise guy (have for a while now obviously).
They have a CLEAR all star caliber running mate.
They have YOUTH.
They have CHAMPIONSHIP EXPERIENCED vets.
They have NO bad contracts
They haven't spent ALL of their picks to build this roster.

That's pretty amazing.  Most (any?) rosters can't make all of those same claims.

with Klay signed for that price, well below my expectation, we still have plenty of room for further moves to strengthen our roster. and this is already probably the best roster we've ever had in franchise history imho.

Not a bad name if he is at that price range.  May not help much this year,

I was thinking the Morris brother, Covington or maybe Ingles.  Or maybe they gamble on a jones jr type upside gamble again.  Not A lot of minutes available though
So who starts? Naji or Klay? I'd go with Naji and make Klay SMOTY.

Also Gordon Hayward was a target for me a few weeks ago.  I just do t see the minutes and fit for him.
Naji is not starting. That's not the message to send to the guy you just wooed for 50 m.

He'll get the minutes he's been getting I suspect, but he won't be starting.

we send green to Charlotte for the trade exception to acquire Klay, does it mean the THJ exception remains there right? I'm thinking of a move for Thybulle tbh, and we can use one of the picks we receive from Hornets in a potential Thybulle deal tbh.
