Trade & FA 2024-25:
Man if the Warriors turn Klay Thompson into Lauri Markkannen that'd be insane.

That also explains the hold up. Utah is trying to extract as much value as possible.

I didn't love his fit here originally but now I want the front office to accomplish what they want instead of striking out.

Unless they wildly overpay to do it.

SHOULD they?

No!  No, no, no...

I think the 16, 17, or whatever it is is an over pay, but I guess I would live with it.  Any more?...Hell no!

There is 'real doubt' that Gary Trent Jr. will even be able to fetch the mid-level exception, per @michaelgrange

“There is real doubt that Trent Jr. will even be offered a deal for the mid-level exception — by definition the NBA’s average salary amount and which starts at $12.5 million for the 2024-25 season.”

To avoid confusion, that would be Josh Green, not Draymond

Klay is a free agent so he'd have to be willing to SnT to a Utah team that's in the middle of a rebuild.

This seems like a solid backup plan if the Mavs can't get Klay

I don’t think that’s what he meant.

No no. 3 team trade.

UTA: gets Kuminga+Wiggins

DAL: gets Klay

GSW: get Lauri+Green+John Collins

Are we done with Jerami Grant? Haven't heard anything for a couple of days now

Woj says Dallas is in a strong position on the Klay Thompson front, but also mentions that the history in LA is undeniable.

Are you thinking that they are trying to loop this into the Thompson to Dallas deal, somehow?

I really don’t like the idea of Dallas throwing Golden State draft capital to use in a Markkanen trade just to get Klay Thompson.

Even if it’s just a three-way deal, that would mean something would have to go from Dallas to Utah, correct?

Why would Klay be part of this? Are you talking about a 3 team trade? There's no way Klay will agree to go to Utah.

Wonder what we should add with “the touch rule” to this thinking here?

GS will have to give up a lot more than that imo, but it's a good starting point. Moody and picks will also be in there.

Younger, (probably) better defensively, cheaper. Definitely a good alternative. I wanted GTJ to begin with because I thought he'd be more willing to accept a reduced role.

Think so, my dude.

But it’s ok - TOBIAS HARRIS WON’T BE A MAVERICK!

I agree.  I think both the Lakers and Mavs are waiting on Grant to see if the Blazers make him available.

Heres how I see it.
  • Warriors are totally fucked after missing out on PG
  • They're losing one of their key guys after disrespecting him
  • They have lost out on their 1 trade chip to get bigger contract guys
  • They need a running mate for Curry AND someone who can sorta fill the Klay role AND is young enough to build around

Enter Lauri
  • Fills all the checkboxes.
  • GSW will be the ones sending picks (They have all of them up until 2030 where that one is top 20 protected)
  • They can use this deal to shed even more unwanted salary like Wiggins
