Trade & FA 2024-25:

Do we think those are ideal circumstances, knowing that he’s somewhere right now trying to talk himself into taking the MLE to stay on the West Coast?

He's human. From a Mavs fan perspective it wouldn't count as ideal circumstances. But on the human side, I get it.

I also think the Lakers are trying to match or exceed Mavs offer, not just MLE, but the same SnT move the Mavs are targeting.

Right, that’s my whole point. He is giving them time, hoping they will dump more salary and give him a reason to stay out there.

I don’t blame him for that a bit. I’m asking if we should be blaming the MAVS for settling for him under those circumstances.
And if LA does find a way to quickly up their offer, do the Mavs increase theirs, somehow? Can they, even?
How do we know Mavs have a Green deal in place and it is that that is a holdup. At least I hope so. If Klay doesn't really want to be here, I don't want him. Said so yesterday

Dan pointed out last night that they can get to a starting number of 26.5m for Klay with Maxi and Green outgoing. Hopefully there's a number the Mavs aren't willing to go to. I would be out at that number personally. Does Klay want more than Harris lol

Dan's post last night:

"Whether Naji comes by exception or S&T, we are hardcapped at $178.1mm. New number for incoming salary with Green outgoing is about $17.5mm. New number with Maxi as the outgoing is about $16mm. If you send out both to bring back a bigger dollar player, you have about $26.5mm under the apron with 14 players and a replacement minimum in the 2 for 1."

Which comes out to this:

With Maxi out: 3/$50m or 4/$69m
With Green out: 3/$55m or 4/$75m
With both out: 3/$83m or 4/$114m

Ok, so they CAN get to north of $25 million as a starting salary.

SHOULD they?
So while we're waiting...

Did we ever get confirmation on the whole agent waiting period that Cato reported? Was that completely bogus?

No.

Will they? I'm starting to think it may be headed that way...

What about sending green and Powell. That should be 18 or so?

I don’t think we know yet, but I think Omahen’s theory makes a ton of sense. He asked last night if maybe the agent change affected negotiations with Dallas, specifically, due to negotiations already having occurred with the old agent. Like, maybe Dallas wasn’t allowed to negotiate with him for a period, but a new, fresh negotiation could start.

No idea if that’s true, but it’s an interesting question.

The rule is legit.  A player has to wait 15 days after ditching their agent to sign with a new agency.  Obviously that didn't impact his ability to finalize a deal.

Edit:  Also found this quote from the Cato article in the Athletic:

Quote:On Sunday morning, one Mavericks source had shared optimism that this strange scenario, never before encountered, could have resolution as soon as Sunday. Jones could still negotiate his next contract through Turner, the president of Verus Management, who has represented him since entering the league. Jones and Turner could also reach a mutual agreement to waive the contractual waiting period, allowing Klutch to take him on as a client sooner

So there were two paths forward, and they probably paid Versus to waive the waiting period.

At this point, I just want to move on from Kleber and Powell. I don't care who we get for them. Moving on from THJ was a good start.

I'm on the side that says give Klay a deadline sometime this afternoon. Also, have the Fakers made any cap clearing move yet?

They haven't. But neither has Dallas Smile Both teams can't sign Klay without additional salary going out.

Absolutely not, but I do want Klay at 20 per or less hopefully.
@MavsFilmRoom

If you believe Stephen A Smith is plugged in…

He just said on First Take that he believes Klay will be going to Dallas

“By the way, I’m already being told he’s going to end up with the Dallas Mavericks.”

Was the exact quote

Take it how you want to take it
