Every move they've made or have been rumored to be trying to make has been about improving on the offensive side of the ball (while trying to maintain as much defense as possible, admittedly). From a bird's eye view, it's the right strategy.
I just think what Jones did down the stretch and in the Playoffs for this team has suddenly become so underrated around here, that's all.
Nothing they've done yet is terrible.
I hope you're right, I don't know anything about Marshall, but I would rather have a guy back that we know fits and has the shared experience of a finals run to build on with his teammates. I just don't know how we can replicate the big plays that DJJ made in transition and it's impact on the energy level of the team.

Just a bummer...he was such a good utility player and fit this system perfectly, outside of being a better shooter. He's a career 50% FG player for a reason...despite not being a great shooter. That's why he was so effective here because when his shot didn't go in, he could still find ways to get buckets. And who knows, maybe his 3-pt shooting was going to get even better

Cmon guys. Team got so much better tonight. Naji/Grimes>DJJ/Tim and both new guys are coming off the bench which means the Mavs are still looking to improve the starting five.
Nico Magic, baby! Sit back and relax.

Cool, but we already know who the targets are for that "improve the starting five" move.
I'm pretty cool with what they've done already. It's what happens late tonight and/or tomorrow that's got me worried.

If klay works out great for us, in the ideal scenario, we will be the favorite to win it all (f k the Boston turtle heads) and even if Klay doesn't fit us as good as we expect (or even if we fail to get him at all) we'll still be one of the top teams with the capability/opportunity of beating or challenging anyone.

We don't really know anything. I believe Nico has a plan B if we don't land Klay (who I don't even want).

He does. Tobias Harris.
Everything reported has been correct, so far. They said Thompson was the priority, and they're currently talking to him. They said the alternative to DJJ was Naji Marshall, and here he is!
No reason to question it now, imho. Maybe Harris will be off the board by the time Thompson decides and they'll miss out on both.

Naji Marshall meets with Voulgaris' approval, for those who care:

once LA signs Klay, time to lock DJJ in a room, get Kyrie, Luka, Lively, etc to convince him to renege on his deal with the Clippers so Ballmer can drive around the neighborhood knocking on doors looking for DJJ

hahaha...it's over, my friend.
If the Mavericks wanted him, they could've gotten him.

Thought the Naji deal came out of nowhere. Yeah, Harris is definitely not someone I'd sign too.
As for Klay, I'm still not sure about him as he is 34 but maybe a happy, rejuvenated Klay might be a different player. He's been miserable the last couple of years.

I mean, it kind of came out of nowhere, sure. But we heard either yesterday or early this morning that he was next on their list as an alternative to Jones. It was in one of Stein‘s substacks. So it wasn’t completely out of nowhere, no.
The timing of it was a shock – I’ll give you that!

He can’t sign in that window… He will be the last of MLE signings to actually sign from today. No one can actually sign for 5 days or so.

Sure, but the idea that no one could negotiate with him during the interim seems to have been false. It took him all of 60 minutes to find a new home once Dallas signed Marshall.

Which probably indicates he was out on the Mavs a while ago. I agree with previous takes that it is more about the role than money. Although, I can't see Clippers giving him a starting role. Mann, Kawhi, Harden, Zubac are all in front of him and there were a lot of rumors that DeRozan is also their target.

I wonder if the agent was the obstacle for Mavs only. Prevoious agent negotiated a Mavs deal. DJJ didn't like a deal and switched agents. If these new agents would then make a deal with Mavs, previous one would be rightfully mad, because they would be "stealing" his commission. But since they aranged a deal with another team...
In any case, Rich Paul is making a lot of agents very angry for "stealing" their clients right before they are due for new contracts.

Yeah, I thought DeRozan was a shoe-in, but I don’t know how they get that done now.

What an interesting thought. I hope someone asks the question and gets to the bottom of it.

It was already reported they are looking to ship out Turner and Westbrook. Wouldn't that free up quite substantial amount under the first apron even with the DJJ signing?

I mean, but… Didn’t they just use their exception on Jones?
Unless, are you suggesting that package would be enough to get Chicago to sign and trade him?
