Trade & FA 2024-25:

Im thinking Klay’s starting number is 20-25M and Mavs are not able to fit him and DJJ..Marshall at a lower cost to DJJ was Plan B. DJJ was probably not accepting a lower number and a reduced role, if Klay is onboard.

Mavs put all their hopes into 34 year old Klay Thompson who is personally being recruited by Lebron James

The key will be whether they actually have a plan after Klay.  That’s where the team seems to always come up short.

No.... no..... no...... this can't be happening....

I actually wouldn't mind Harris as a backup plan at the money we were originally talking about for Klay, but he has to come off the bench.
Well it sucks losing DJJ but I think the long term solution at 3 should be OMax anyway but who knows how long it will take for him to get there. OMax is kind of like tweener size so he's not too big and he is quick enough to be a POA defender. Guess we'll have to see what the rest of the moves are. The starting 3 right now is still up in the air. Klay doesn't inspire much confidence for that position.

How about Batum for the remainder of the MLE?

The Mavericks obviously must beat out the Lakers to get Klay Thompson's commitment in addition to working out a sign-and-trade with the Warriors as the Lakers continue to chase Thompson, too.

Amid its Klay pursuit, Dallas decided it had to jump on an attractive three-year, $27 million deal with Marshall when it was available and capitalize on some immediate certainty.

Props to @tim_cato for illuminating earlier today that Jones' recent agent switch, which comes with a 15-day waiting period according to @TheNBPA rules, could affect the Mavericks' attempts to retain the high-flying defensive specialist after his outstanding debut season in helping Dallas reach the NBA Finals for just the third time in franchise history.

This, sadly, is what I’m expecting now, too.

They are not waiting around a week to try to hard sell DJJ on taking less than what has been discussed, which they know they have to do because they’re about to have to bid too much for Thompson to wrestle him away from LAL.

This isn’t looking great at the moment.

im afraid it already has, this maybe signalling that klay is almost a done deal imo. losing djj meant that Klay will get his money and will be the starter at the 3.

If he's not retiring or moving abroad, and if he'll take the little we have left, sure.
Stein backing off his previous Mavs confidence is a bad sign.

And hopefully, they will have two or three back up plans between Thompson and Tobias Harris.

Free agent F Naji Marshall has agreed on a three-year, $27 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell ESPN.

He was one I was watching since the Finals ended. This tells me that the Mavs are either getting Klay and DJJ didn't like the thought of going back to the bench. Or DJJ wanted too much with the agent switch.
Find me at Lakersball.com. I'm done with the Nico and the Mavs.

I don't think its Stein backing off.

He's just repeating everything we already know. Lakers are competing for Klay. Mavs have to win Klay's signature. Same exact choice of words and framing. Only thing different was the Mavs choosing to get Marshall now vs. waiting for DJJ.

Just sign and trade green for next best option. Doesn’t matter.  Keep cooking Nico

That would be awesome.  Not sure it happens but he would be my number 1

So does this mean Tobias Harris is done if we miss out on Klay?  Sign and trade is not in cards right?
Fair enough. I'm glad you guys are here to help me keep the faith.

This. I think he wanted to come back, and they panicked because they can’t negotiate with him for a week and knew they were about to up their offer for Thompson, who they still might not get. I think DJJ’s agent change caused all of this, but not in the way we’ve been discussing for 3 days.

Kudos to Cato, straight up.

Why in the world does it take ludicrous money to get the Splash Grandpa to pick our Finals-going team over the nowhere-near-competing Lakers at the NTMLE?

This shit pisses me off something fierce.
Klutch drama aside, I think the Naji contract is awesome value. Likely better than DJJ at the full MLE.
