If DJJ walks:
1) KCP SnT where we lose Green
2) DFS for Green. Naji Marshall with the rest of the room
3) Tobias Harris SnT where we lose Maxi
4) Caleb Martin full MLE
Not sure if there’s a good option

LOL. Led the league in guarding the other team's best player. Not a very informed opinion, with all due respect.

He’s been over rated by us. He’s limited offensively- even recall him barely playing in 4th when me made that run. If he leaves just sign another athletic young wing - definitely not worth more than 10-12 a year. Paying Green that extension for 14 is crazy but only good cause asset can include in trade

Thank God the Lakers are there to save Mavs from themselves on Klay..same way they saved them from Dimwiddie
Grimes probably starts if DJJ walks..good POA and a willing shooter...not ideal but not a total catastrophe either
Having said that, Mavs have to retain DJJ - if its your priority 1A and 1B, you better get it done.

I think DJJ will be a Maverick.
I think they have been shopping Green pretty hard, which leads me to believe Jones is a probability.
No idea why it hasn't leaked, but I'm not going to assume the worst.
Pretty much sounds like the Lakers are the clear cut favorite for our insider:

Tomorrow can't get here fast enough.
Hopefully, Paul George's "moment" won't hold all of this up too much. I was having fun until today, but now I'm just ready for it to be over.

I'm not worried about this at all, for the record. Like not even a little.
I think we're going to find out that Harrison does exactly what he said he'd do, and Jones will come right back to play with the team who gave him a big role, finally.
I might feel differently if I thought some team like Orlando was gong to offer him MORE than the MLE, but any team interest we hear about him as an MLE target is just a way to get the FULL, $12.9 million from Dallas, I bet.
One thing I've actually wondered is if the Klay Thompson smoke from Dallas is to try to leverage DJJ to keep his number as a little home town discount and come back. Basically, Nico's way of saying to DJJ's agent "we could also just put Klay into that MLE instead of Derrick".
Not saying that Klay isn't interested. I just think he is more interested in LA since he is from there and his Dad played for the Lakers. He likely doesn't mind the Dallas leverage either.
Find me at Lakersball.com. I'm done with the Nico and the Mavs.

Is anyone besides LA a threat for DJJ? If they are getting Klay, it doesn't really sound like DJJ can walk.

I guess anonymous Twitter insiders posting inside knowledge of deals only after the search terms trend is an honored free agency tradition.

I've had that wonder, myself, but would like to think the negotiation between Jones and Dallas isn't quite that cutthroat.
I think that if he leaves, he was either looking for a way out or Dallas has decided to go in a different direction. I can't make either of those make sense in my head, however. He had other offers last summer, but chose to take the Dallas minimum. The collaboration resulted in an NBA Finals appearance.
If someone is going to give them the bag, I can see him leaving for that. Holding out for that possibility, no matter how remote, might be why nothing promising has leaked. After Annonuby signed and before this Paul George thing happened, it looked like there might be more cap space out there than players to target. He has made only about $27 million total, so if some team offers him more than the MLE he's got to take it, really, and I'll wish him well. I don't expect that, though - does anyone? I flatly do not believe he's going take some other team's MLE instead of the Mavs', should the Mavs offer it. Where else is he going to start and play 30 minutes per? Where else is that even a possibility, at least on a good team? This MLE (again, if it's offered) has just got to be the "best" MLE for him.
I could understand the Mavs looking elsewhere if they thought they could replicate his defense (or come damn close) while upgrading his offense. KCP, maybe, but they can't get him. I don't see any upside to prioritizing anyone we've talked about over DJJ this summer, other than maybe Grant. I could live with them letting Jones walk to be able to afford Grant, but it sounds like the holdup there is getting Portland to fork him over. Klay Thompson, while interesting, does not qualify as a player who justifies letting Jones walk. I don't know that there's much room for debate on that.
I just can't get there, guys. I think he's a Maverick.

I expect DJJ to re-sign, but it's hardly a Brunson-level disaster if he doesn't. His starting position has always been the one with the most potential for upgrade, and we saw that most clearly in the Finals. He's a good and important role player, but unless he massively improves his shooting Dallas will continually be looking for an upgrade.
Regardless of what happens with DJJ, if Klay signs with the Lakers, I hope a trade for Jerami Grant heats up again.

Nobody thinks LA is a threat except Dan, who secretly hopes Jones is gone so he can keep his Josh Green dream alive as long as possible.
Why are we discussing this as though it's common knowledge?

It's fun!
And, that guy called PJ, Gafford AND Grimes way ahead of time!
Doesn't mean he's real, but it's not hurting anyone.

I don't mind wild or unsubstantiated rumors. I just hope people don't take them too seriously. FYI -- these types of accounts are also notorious for throwing 1000 things at the wall and simply deleting the predictions that didn't happen.

Too many people thinking Klay is 2015 Klay, when he is not. I suppose that's better than the doofuses out there (not here on the board, thank goodness) who still view Wiggins as a decent Mavs trade target. Klay is neither offensively nor defensively what he was in 2015, period. If it's a good idea to flush exorbitant money on Klay freaking Thompson in 2024 - way the hell past the man's prime - why don't we trade for CP3? How about getting Blake Griffin out of retirement? Why not just go all the way and go get MJ?
Mark my words - if the Mavs are stupid enough to throw money out the window (anything more than $5 mil a year is ridiculous, much less $20 per year) for a multiyear deal for Klay Thompson, by the time this coming season is over, that contract will be as hated by the entirety of the Mavs fanbase as the worst contract in franchise history, worse than THJ, Wes, Chandler Parsons, and all of Powell's deals put together. He will be unplayable in terms of actually trying to win games by the end of this coming season. Go ahead and pin this post, especially if the Mavs nuke the Luka era by making such a suicidal move. Goodness gracious, I bet that if there were some way to scientifically quantify subjective sports opinions and feelings, I'll bet I abhor this idea worse than Kamm hated trading for Kyrie.
Ya, I don't think people going after Klay saw him play last year. I was interested in Wiggins only if GS gives up huge capital to unload him.

Don't get me wrong. I think he's still a Maverick. I don't doubt it one bit. I just know that sometimes there are things done in public as negotiation.
I just heard another interesting thing about Klay from Ramona Shelbourne. On a scale of 0-100 for defense he was about a 95 a few years ago. He's about an 80 now. That's still a very good defender. That's about where I would put him too. She also mentioned someone I've seen a lot watching them out here. He is an off ball player. That fits perfect with Kai and Luka. When he hit 37 points in one quarter. He only dribbled 11 times. Literally 11 dribbles. He has always been a guy that wraps around a screen with a catch and shoot 3.
I think Klay would push this team over the edge. Only for the right price though.
Find me at Lakersball.com. I'm done with the Nico and the Mavs.

DJJ deserves the full MLE we shouldn't scrimp on him tbh. the Klay smoke may help to make blazers aware that Jerami ain't our only target and we can get other solid players at much lower costs.
