despite what we're watching now, this season was a massive success and we should be feeling happy. Mavs have the ability to rise. Even if other teams get better I still think this core is good enough to win. Just some minor tweaks to refine the team

The Kidd extension is starting to look a bit iffy to me. The no ball movement offense isn’t going to work. It gets by due to tremendous talent but the scheme doesn’t provide any help at all. The Mavs will rightfully be considered frauds and flukes this offseason. Unexpectedly, big changes will be needed.

Both of your points are true.

But it also could be reasoned that if just 1 other guy could reliably score off the bench the Mavs would be more competitive. Just another threat. 

Boston is a very good team. I don't think there's a single team in the NBA that could've beat them. But the Mavs had a chance if they didn't go ice cold.

Pacers didn't have iso scorers like Luka or Kyrie and scored at will. Kidd deserves all the credit in the world for the defense. But on offense it really feels like the Mavs have no scheme.

Mavs have way too may specialist as role players and not enough two way players.

Hardy-below average defense, average offense
Kleber-okay defender, if three isn't going in is a zero offense
THJ-gives you nothing more than occasional hot shooting and zero on defense
Green-Energy guy with mediocre defense and below average offense
Exum-good not great defense, zero on offense
DJJ-Good defender, average offense
Gafford-Good shoot blocker (okay perimeter defense), average offense
Lively-Good defender, average offense
PJW-Good defender, above average offense (Mavs need more PJ level players)

Celtics are playing up/down to their competition and allow the Mavs to stay in the game. Feels just like game two. Mavs cannot waste another opportunity. Need perfect execution on both ends to close out the game.
