Can anyone with above average knowledge of player-position responsibilities that watches the games chime in on how Bullock has done thus far defensively?
I would prefer the response to be based on what has been shown on court thus far...not based on what he could do playing with starters or playing with starters when the starters actually care to be playing(looking at you Luka).
I liked the Bullock pickup. I dont think his 3 shot is reliable, though. I have no idea if he has dribbling, passing or any playmaking in his offense bag. How is he inside the arch?
Anyway...hes paid to be 3andD I believe. Hows his D?...because his 3 isnt special thus far.

Damn. Zinger represents $31.65 million in dead cap space. That’s horrific. No one is taking him back in a trade until he’s an expiring unless it’s for someone else with a deadweight contract.

Sadly Nico screwed up in his first off-season, probably on orders by Cuban to stay competitive and not embarrass our genius owner, who keeps losing trades to Vivek and Dolan. What they should have done is clear out the complete roster/cap.
Trade Porzingis for Bamba/Ross.
Trade THJ to Detroit in a S&T for a 2nd round pick or a fallen prospect.
Use the legit capspace threat to facilitate Markkanen for Powell + Green
Doncic/Brunson (expiring)
Ross (expiring)/X
DFS (expiring)/X
Markkanen/Kleber (expiring)
Bamba (expiring)/Brown
That would be such a fun team to watch. Play hard, but tank, if necessary. Get a top pick in the draft, throw max offers at Beal and Lavine. If they refuse go after upside guy like Reddish.

Don't see how a team with Luka Doncic on it tanks.

Not a smart plan to me. Mavs have to find a way to offload KP in a way that nets them 2 guys that aren't seen as anything special but next to Luka can blossom.

The team probably does need a rebuild but trusting a Cuban run team to draft well or recruit...

1. You will see how a team with Luka tanks this season, if Kidd insists on starting Powell.
2. How often do you have to watch players sign with "bad" teams that make smart decisions (like the Nets) instead of teams that make idiotic decisions (like the Mavs) before you realize that records don´t matter? Ball and DeRozan went to the Bulls.
3. You are not even getting Bamba/Ross for Porzingis anymore, which was likely a possibility in the summer. Now Porzingis is shooting 30/23/73 on a max contract before getting hurt three games into the season.

1. There is a difference between tanking and trying.

Interesting exercise...
Forget salary matching for a moment and lets try to put ourselves in the shoes of other teams in the league. How many teams would it make sense for KP to start for? Eliminate teams that already have a scoring presence in the front court as that wouldn't work. For instance, Minnesota could probably use a good PF, but no way KP next to Towns works. Who do you come up with?
Brooklyn
Charlotte
GS
Portland
Sacramento
San Antonio
Toronto
Washington
I thought about Boston in place of Horford, but not sure there are enough shots to go around for KP, Tatum and Brown. Is Detroit ready for this kind of deal or should they keep rebuilding? Maybe Indy? But KP reunited with Rick? I don't think so. Who am I missing? Who would you remove from the list above?

This may be wrong and maybe I am hoping things are better here, but from outside it certainly appears the new front office is being really deliberate in their early moves. The Frankie move seemed to be one they took their time on and really gave a lot of thought into it. They appeared to look at players like Dennis Smith Jr and others and really did a deep dive. Probably most teams do that, but it seemed like they didn't rush into a decision. Even some of their two way moves and keeping Moses, they seem to be really deliberate and put a lot of research before making moves. I could be completely wrong though.

The Bulls redid their front office in April 2020. Other than hiring a new coach and using their first-round pick, the new team did basically nothing in the 2020 offseason. It wasn't until March of '21, almost a year later, that they made their first major move (the Orlando trade). Now of course, they've almost completely redone their line-up.
If anything, Nico has been more active already than Karnisovas was while settling into the job, and any expectations that he would be taking major swings the moment he walked through the door were always unrealistic. Next off-season, on the other hand, ...

Yep my prediction going back to this last summer was Nico would go through the first 6-9 months on the job without making major changes. But then my guess was that this TDL or coming summer would would see 50-75% roster turnover (from when he took the job). If he in fact moves KP (like I think he will), that will be a huge domino that will potentially watershed to a TON of other changes.

You complain that we screw up every offseason and your plan is to put every egg in the next offseason basket?

It's hard to say that we were more active than others. It's not Nico's fault but, Suns went i 1 offseason from non play-off team to finals, Hawks to ECF and the Bulls might be the next looking their roster.
And what our FO did in that time?
- Give Harrison Barnes for nothing.
- Give Seth Curry for nothing.
- Waste 2020 draft.
- Give 2021 2 round pick for nothing.
When we look what former FO did our results look incredibly. That results were not results of FO work, but mainly players development (Luka, JB, THJ, DFS).
So with the lack off the assests our coaching stuff and FO need to be very careful. In my opinion priorities should be:
FO:
- JB & DFS extensions.
Looking our assests, we can't let those 2 guys walk away without replacement (if they don't want to extend).
Coaching:
- Find back KP.
We give a lot for him. He showed that he can play, but it's hard to imagine that someone could go from all-star level to a player who forgot how to play.
If we do did we're still on the good path.
Porzingis - WCS/Powell - Boban
? - Kleber
Bullock - DFS
THJ - Brown
Luka - JB - Ntilkina
Decide which big to trade. Powell or WCS.
Decide what with Moses Brown.
Admit that they make mistake with Green.
Gamble on project's that didn't succed in other franchises. Like Ntilkina. Kevin Knox could be interesting.
I'm interested to see what offer we need to make for Marvin Bagley?
Draft well.
PS: Is there an option of opening a new thread about draft prospects and/or scouting reports? It could be nice if we could talk about draft prospects and other interesting (international) players who could be interesting on own thread (not in the trade talk, and draft thread few weeks before draft?).
