Let's be realistic. This is not a true statement whatsoever. Terry has shown in Summer League exactly what his NBA skill is ... shooting. His shot is beautiful.
That said, what we're also seeing, really for the first time, is Terry getting extended run against players with NBA bodies. In some respects, it's shocking. Dude is small. In others, it's clear why he fell when some had him projected as a top 20 talent in the draft.
Terry needs to add weight and a lot of it. The female sideline reporter who interviewed him after the first game looked to have broader shoulders. My son plays with a 6' 3" middle schooler who's body looks more NBA ready than Tyrell Terry. If he got minutes today I don't think he could defend the coaching staff much less NBA players.
Yet none of that is a surprise to anyone who's actually seen him in person, or to scouts, or to anyone responsible for an NBA draft. No one on the Mavs staff was surprised when Terry walked into the gym. Everyone knew his biggest weakness was his body.
But the kid can shoot the lights out. He's quick. He can get to the rim. More importantly, he's shown a little craftiness when he gets there. He can also make reads and has a little flair to his passing game. He certainly has NBA talent. And he's certainly worth keeping an eye on to see if his body develops. Not comparing him to the Greek Freak but remember Giannis was a skinny kid early in his career too.
You can argue Dallas might have been better off taking a lower risk guy who might be able to get real minutes now ... but Cuban always favors swinging for the fences. If Terry's body develops you might have guy with a little star potential on your hands. That's a big if ... but it comes with big upside and it's certainly worth a second round pick.

This is a good take. I admit, I have been a little disappointed in Tyrell over the first game and a half. He looks so overmatched trying to guard players. When he was drafted, I said he was a future bet and would not be ready to play right away. I guess we need to understand that last year was a lost year for him and very little player development happened for several reasons.
Besides being overmatched on defense, the other thing that bothered me is I knew our summer league team did not have talent, so I really wanted Tyrell to be the clear alpha on the team. I want him to get off 8-10 threes a game. If he is going to have an successful NBA career he will need to show he can get off three point shots and shoot them at a very high percentage. If he plays the next game, the more three attempts the better for me.
I don't think he is ready for NBA minutes next year, at this point. So I expect a lot of G-league games. I think that would be a good thing for his development.

In that situation, both Dallas and Toronto would have a vested interest in feigning a prolonged negotiation through the press to avoid getting roped into the Miami/Lowry investigation. Arranging a trade that depends on a S&T that can't be legally agreed to yet is a gray area I'm sure they'd like to avoid wading into.
Could JJ Reddick sign and trade also fill in the gap with the remaining salary? For instance, Reddick goes to the Nets and Toronto gets Powell, Brown and Nets Second rounder from last year, Reggie Perry. Or something similar to that???
Edit- nevermind, I don't think Perry makes as much. although could Reddick still be a part of this in some way?

ok, the ""good news". Mavs have hired their big man no. 8 in Omoruyi /yes, he is talented)- And they are looking not only on Markannen but on the Davidson too - big men no. 9 and 10.
The only one of the two backups for Jalen or Luka is injured. Which means we have a horde of big men and no ball handlers to call upon if pgs are hurt.
I am sorry, but are mavs collecting the big men? It all reminds me of Frederick William the first, in 18 century idiotic king ,who collected, bribed, abducted, kidnapped all tall people he could find. He consctruted forcibly an 3000 strong force of giants /some were over 2m in time when 1,50m was a norm). And they never fought at all in any battle at all....

In general I agree that Mavs severly lack any player who could handle the ball, but I have a comment to your post. Omoruyi is a wing. Who is Davidson?
What I don't understand is why Mavs always go for relatively old two way players? Macon, Cleveland and now Omoruyi are recent examples from last couple of seasons. It is very unlikely you will need your 16th and 17th guy to actually play rotational minutes and their ceiling is extremely low. So why not going for a young developmental prospect with higher upside and slowly develop him in a role.

BTW, Fanspo has the aggregation restriction ending August 19th rather than October 1st. It's normally 2 months, but I believe it has been shortened again due to the compressed schedule. So this may shake out within the next week.
Tyler, I tried to find this somewhere besides Fanpro to confirm this and have not had any luck. The shorter restriction was in place for the condensed 20/21 season, but I'm not sure it applies to 21/22. The fact that Hollinger and MavsCBA both mention 10/1 leads me to believe it is probably 10/1. Too bad (if true). I was kind of hoping to be done with this next week.
I really liked the idea of using a single deal to satisfy Chicago and Toronto. But if 10/1 is the date and camp opens on 9/28, that feels problematic (though not impossible) for a direct deal between Dallas and Toronto. Keeping Chicago and LM waiting too seems even less likely. I think Hollinger probably has this right. It is Powell, Moses and someone making over $1.56mm. Unfortunately, Terry doesn't make enough.
Dragic is negative equity at $19mm for one year. Powell is also, but the money is more palatable split over two years. The rest is just window dressing as I don't see Dallas giving up value in the form of Green or a pick for Dragic.
The other version of getting to $14mm is Maxi, Willie and Moses. I struggle to see Maxi going out unless LM is coming in from Chicago. To the point you made yesterday, Maxi could end up in Chicago as a backup PF and Willie Cauley-Moses makes sense in Toronto. Willie plays for a year with Birch and Moses is the project who is in a position to replace him a year from now. To your point about "tampering" (or making well informed option decisions on players), the Opt-In on WCS makes more sense with either he or Powell leaving. The version where Maxi goes to Chicago and WCS/Moses go to Toronto keeps all three teams comfortably under the tax (yes, even with LM and GD coming here at $30mm).
If it works out, Toronto got Precious and Moses for facilitating a Lowry S&T while preserving flexibility. If it doesn't, neither Chicago nor Toronto have any salary obligation past the current season.

I agree it makes little sense to wait till October. So if Moses is really the one piece Toronto wants, I would do it as two separate trades. For example Powell, Burke, Terry and a couple of second rounders for Dragic. Moses for deep bench Toronto guy in a separate deal. Watanabe if I can pick one.

It´s not Moses Brown that holds up a Dragic trade. They could always do the "Raptors and Mavs have agreed to a deal that will send Dwight Powell & Moses Brown to Toronto in exchange for Goran Dragic. Due to blah blah not official until Oct. 1st."

Hmm... bummer. Maybe we'll see another trade of a recently acquired player sometime soon that gives us some evidence for where the 60-day aggregation rule currently stands.

Why’d Mavs Attend Lance Stephenson NBA Workout?
The Dallas Mavericks were among the teams who attended Lance Stephenson's workout as he attempts an NBA comeback.

Feels like there are at least possibilities that Josh Green and Moses Brown will be included in trades and so the Mavs are playing it safe with them.

I don’t think Toronto gets both Green and Moses in a deal for Dragic. Tyler’s idea from yesterday that lands both LM and Dragic with Green to Chicago makes more sense.
I could see Boucher into our TPE in a deal that sends out Powell, Green and Moses. That would be a much better situation than LM from a defensive and rebounding perspective. If we want to retain Powell or someone like him (as was reported), getting back a substitute big (Boucher) or sending Redick to TOR instead of Powell are two ways to approximate it..

It is weird Green is not playing in the summer league, but I would be very surprised and disappointed if this was due to a potential trade. Long term, I think Green can be a very nice piece playing with Luka.
