Masai Ujiri emerged as a candidate in Atlanta’s recent search for a president of basketball operations as @TheSteinLine reported in May: https://t.co/OLHfSKKczg

A sign, perhaps, his time with the Raptors was nearing an end.

Now ESPN reports Toronto and Ujiri have parted ways.

If Raptors ownership knew they were firing the guy, why would they let him run the draft? Certainly, he was not fired over drafting Collin Murray-Boyles and Alijah Martin.

Ujuri was entering the final year of his contract with the Raptors, an organization he has been with since 2013.

He constructed the 2018-19 championship team, which included trading for Kawhi Leonard, and he was again aggressive over the last year building Toronto’s roster.

Bobby Webster led the Raptors draft efforts this week, sources told @ClutchPoints.

A decision to part ways with Ujiri was not influence by the NBA Draft.

They probably decided to let him go some time ago abd didn't expect to have replacement before the draft. Let him pick the first pick and fired him.

Now, I wonder if they are interested in a GM who lead a team to a final and conference final in his first 4 years. Smile

Rogers Communications bought a 37.5 % share of MLSE from its telecommunications rival Bell giving it controlling share of the company. MLSE also let former NHL great, and President, Brendan Shanahan's contract expire from the Maple Leafs after a decade. It was clear when new ownership took over, changes were coming. Edward Rodgers is now MLSE's executive chairman of the board and wasn't happy giving Ujiri top of the line money to continue.

I doubt the Mavs owners are interested in firing Nico now or before the season - especially with FA coming up.

While the fan base might think this is a good time, I can't imagine the owners would. The national media would feast on it... and in a bad way.

It should have been done the second last season was over.  Now its going to be a while.  The one negative of Flagg is that he will probably keep Nico here longer.
