"In my mind, the way teams win is by focus, by having the right character, by having the right culture, and having the right dedication to work as hard as possible to create a championship-winning outcome," Dumont told the Morning News. "And if you're not doing that, you're going to lose."
Son, I'm twice your age and have watched every Mavs game since Nellie went to drink beer with Dirk's dad in Germany. Your implication that Luka DID NOT work hard to win a championship is both classless and woefully wrong. I can't remember ever hearing or reading a team official assault the character of a departing player or employee as you just did. You have a lot to learn about human relationships and a juvenile style of management. I trust the remaining Mavericks will have the skillset to deal with your dullard, neanderthal leadership style.

Dallas is NOT a FA destination. The players and agents will take notice which will make it even more difficult for the Mavs to attract FAs.

No one is safe
anyone can be traded at any moment. I don't see any team-friendly deals happening any time soon. Market rate at best, might even have to pay a loyalty penalty

The Supermax was pretty much a guarantee that your young superstar would be with the team for another five years. What reasonably insightful owner would not desire that?

There is no good explanation for the trade. You also really can't say publicy why you traded Luka. Flat out, they lost faith that he was that guy. I think most of us have differing views.
Although, Nico being so unprepapred at his press conference and not meeting the moment is inexcusable. So is Dumont's quotes. Who knows who else is leaking the quotes we have seen, but that is low class as well. Mavs need a crisis prevention team. The Mavs would have taken all of these bullets for their decision but how they handled it made it so much worse imo.
And i am not even sure how you answer the question publically on why you traded Luka. There is no right way. There is a wrong way though. And they hit that out of the park.

Definitely not an easy situation. I think they should just stick with "defense wins championships". It would allow them to focus on AD being a better defender and not necessarily meaning Luka sucks on defense. They would always get flak for this move and no explanation would make it go away, it would at least allow them to show class. Instead they chose to feed McMahon first (always happy to report negative things) and then later doubled down by saying it themselves.

maybe the owner desires a relocation of the franchise more than anything and has told Nico to ensure financial flexibility by 2027 at any cost. Nico is just a scapegoat probably.
