Tim McMahon article on Nico
#1
If already posted please delete but I believe it warrants its own thread

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/4470...-mavericks

Of all the things the one that stood out to me was the blurb at the end where it said the Luka camp said he would practice at the team facilities for his rehab than accompany the team.  Previously I thought Luka’ team was rehabbing him separately from the facility. If Luka was indeed rehabbing and practicing at the Mavs facility why was Nico so upset?  They could clearly track his progress there

Then Nico says Luka needs to participate in scrimmages on the road trip.  Luka then even offers to scrimmage with the Mavs G league team.  How many superstars who are top 3 would even do that?  The next time Luka’s camp hears back is to inform him he was traded.

There is something seriously wrong with Nico. This doesn’t even begin to talk about the most important part of his job which is negotiating with another GM. We all know he fails there as well.

Yeah this entire article really highlights how Nico has taken over and slowly dismantled everything that was once great about this franchise.

This is the part that really stuck out to me. Casey Smith was going to go see his mother on her deathbed and Nico couldn't possibly wait till he returned to fire him.

Absolutely disgusting individual.

The medical/training staffs all hated each other...the old regime, the new regime, Luka's camp, etc. Even the guys that Nico hired couldn't get along  Big Grin

One of Mark's parting gifts doomed the franchise. It's hard to believe that the signs of Nico's dysfunction weren't there when Mark had a say in basketball operations. Then again, he claimed ignorance of the all the sexual harassment issues on the business side so maybe I shouldn't be surprised. But as much as I hate Mark, nothing compares to this:

Our organization is fucked and now I hope the tinfoil hat move to Vegas rumors are true.

Yes, this franchise needs a complete reset.

We are toxic right now.

Nico comes off as a strange, conflicted man; weak and ineffectual, but "my way or the highway."  How incredibly insecure to be threatened by a respected, long-tenured trainer like Casey Smith or a legend like Dirk!  Then, to not be willing to accommodate Luka's desire to retain the training and medical staffers he trusted, is so shortsighted and petty.  Speaking of petty, how about Nico's badmouthing of Luka post-trade?  For the good of the team, this jackass needs to be shown the door.

Assume your meaning here is disbelief that PD needed to be warned that the fans would hate trading Luka and, even more so, hate giving Luka away for almost nothing. I’m on board with firing Nico. But damn, this Dumont dude is not below Nico’s idiot ass on my hit list.
Pessimism doesn’t make you smart, just pessimistic.

I have to say, I had a reasonable expectation of hope after the play-in finished (us). However, dejection and depression are starting to set in hard by virtue of coming here day after day and no "Nico Harrison fired" news.

Our ownership must be even dumber than he is. That's really hard to do.

They'll probably fire him right before the Draft/free agency so we'll have no clear plan or leadership

Maybe we can start up a collection to buy the Lakers and move them to Dallas.
