Game 28 Dirkie Thread: Quentin Grimes by a...lot.
#1
Well shucks guys. I got lost surfing YouTube videos and missed the start of the game. Luckily I was able to start watching it from scratch and saw the full game.

A few things I noticed in this game. Energy!...and defense. Defense by both teams but the Mavs were playing hardnose ball out there. This is also the type of game that defense is not quantifiable. Points get all the glory! True...it is the team with the most points at the end of the game who wins. But defense can stop the other team. A point in example. Kleber made only one point. Get the bum out of there--he can't score. Ah...but he can play defense with the best of them. I wanted to add him to the poll. He wouldn't have gotten any votes, but he played some pretty good defense.

It was good to have Kyrie on the floor. He started slow, but just the threat he gives can make the other team pause.

8 men in double figures...and a host of other stats as well.

Washington continues to play well. Lively did much better, but it helped that other men were playing such tight defense as well. Gafford and Lively are a pretty good duo.

Dinwiddie!...I think a little too much Dinwiiddie, but it is nice to have him as a back up.

Klay Thompson. Ok. He's doing what we need him to do. Can he do better. I think so.

Marshall and Grimes. Two great trades. I think both of them are just getting started.

As much as I want to give my Dirkie to P. J. Washington...or Lively...I'm giving it to Grimes. Grimes scoring was timely. We needed it...he gave it.

Good all around with a couple of stand out performances from Lively and Grimes. Lively was a little more important because of his role as defensive anchor, but Grimes really put the Mavs over the top. I went with Grimes in a close one.

Voted for Klay after watching the early part of the 4th quarter distracted. That vote should have gone to Grimes. Dude was stellar, impressive.

Seeing Klay find his groove is fun though. His last few games are exactly what this team needs. Just a calming, smart presence on the court. Great to see him be so much more involved with handoff plays right now.

Also fun: we’re almost 30 games into the season and Lively’s assist numbers continue to be impressive. I wonder though when / if we’ll see him take a three this season.

Now if we could get healthy for once I’d really appreciate it. Feels like we must be close to a dozen different starting lineups over the season now. Just a very difficult season so far on that front.

Grimes. Good team win.

The Mavs lost an elite defender in DJJ. They replaced him with solid/good defenders. The Mavs calculus is we may decrease slightly on D (maybe in end of game spots) but we are going to replace the slight loss on D with much better and dangerous shooting. Final grade will be in the playoffs.
