Actually you are right.  I just do that placeholder thing so I can get the poll out quickly.  Then I can thoughtfully ruminate on who deserved my Dirkie.

Only 3 people were on my radar for the Dirkie...P.J., Lively, and Luka.

The problem with Luka is he gets graded on the curve--an upward curve.  Fair or not he has to  play exceptional games to get a Dirkie.  If nobody else plays exceptionally then Luka gets it.

Man...that Lively is something to behold.  I am so happy with him.

And then there is P.J. Washington.  Night in night out he usually plays a stellar game.  If he keeps it up, then he'll start being graded on the curve.

P.J. Washington it is!

Did I mis-number a thread somewhere along the line?

I’m taking Luka who broke just far enough above the curve to edge out PJ. Lively was excellent too. Tough night for Kyrie but the team did their best generally. It’s the stocks that put Luka over his curve IMO.

Q1 Luka
Q2 Lively
Q3 PJ
Q4 Dinwiddie

That was easier than picking a winner for the game. I could go with any of those guys. But the numbers say PJ or Luka. As rough as the season has started for LD, I guess I’ll buy on the 37/12/4/4/1 line.

PJ shut down Morant down the stretch. He hit the dagger. He was the only one fighting for loose balls during some stretches of this game, and basically provided energy to the rest of the team. He almost had a triple trouble, and was like a +21 in a game that was in doubt during the final 90 seconds. He gets my vote.

Holy freaking crap. WHAT A WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT A FREAKING WIN!!!!

This was as physical of a game I have seen in years in the NBA. Both teams were getting away with murder, and then somehow, the refs started just calling the most random touch fouls I've ever seen.

Lively's and PJ's energy this game was game defining. They were incredible. I can't believe I have the pleasure of watching such great guys. Lively's suffocating defense around the rim. PJ shutting down Morant.

And I mean the balls on Dinwiddie to take that transition pull-up 3.

Luka has looked dominant since coming back. So much like his old self. He had a couple of bad mistakes, but I attribute that more the physicality of the game more than anything. He provided that consistent offensive foundation needed on a night where Kyrie and Klay had basically nothing going.

Sheesh. I have to give my Dirkie to Lively. I mean the entire game he was every where.

Also special shoutout to Marcus Smart for helping the Mavs get back into this one.

Kyrie Irving was fired up after Dallas’ clutch win over Memphis.

“I ain’t ever turn the ball over 25 times and still get the f***ing W!”

Mavs superstar Luka Doncic on his defense:

“Somebody’s gonna ask me about my defense! I’m trying. I think this season has been one of the best defensive seasons, I know people don’t see it but I’m trying and I’ll just get better…”

Later said he is bringing “more energy” on defense.

He was pretty locked in last night, defensively, particularly in the first half. His focus and energy waned a bit during the 3rd, but that might still just be a matter of early season conditioning. It was a good game from him, all things considered.

Hard decision.

Lively battled the MEM twin towers all night and still put up 17/11 with 6 ORBs! Add in 3 blocks, one of which looked like he was jumping out of the building, and he was key in keeping DAL close enough to win at the end.

Luka was back to being the superstar we all love with another 37 point double double and a +16 on/off. The only way MEM could stop him was to foul, so he was awarded 16 FTs (but only made 10).

PJW was a monster on defense and smothered Ja enough to shut down the MEM offense at the end. Then slammed the door with a final 3pt shot in the last minute.

Dinwiddie's large cojones at the end took all the wind out of MEM. When he made his 2nd 3pt basket in 30 seconds it totally deflated them.

I'd give it to PJW but could be talked in to Lively. Luka's already shining so brightly, this more about who else contributed the most.

I went with D-Live. His energy running the floor and protecting the paint. Clutch fts after missing a few. Clutch offensive boards.

I went with Luka solely on the 3stl/1blk performance.
