If Raptors talk it can only mean, that Lowry is on the table.

I am sure Mavs would be interested in signing Drummond for min salary. I am also sure there is no way he signs with Mavs Smile

Looks like I am wrong. But it would take 4 or 5 other players to gather the salaries for Drummond...

More from Shams:

As our Sam Amick reported, the Hawks have shown a willingness to listen to offers on John Collins. Collins is an integral part of the Hawks’ core, averaging 18.1 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 39.1 percent from 3-point land. Atlanta has so far sought a high first-round, lottery-level pick if it is to move Collins, sources said.

From Shams reporting (he mentions Dallas interest if Drummond is bought out).

For the Raptors, a deal structure could include several contracts to reach Drummond’s $28.7 million salary this season, and it could involve multiple other teams. Such a deal could take a while to come together. The Raptors are currently starting Aron Baynes at center. While Toronto has expressed trade interest, several other teams, such as Brooklyn and Dallas, would have interest in Drummond via buyout, sources said. The Cavaliers have been in the postseason hunt in the Eastern Conference, so it is unclear how open the franchise would be toward a buyout after the trade deadline should the team be in the playoff hunt, but the franchise has certainly acknowledged Drummond’s likely desire to be on a contending team. A buyout is clearly not the preference.

Drummond, 27, will be a free agent after the season.

KP trades are so simple to create. Here is one I really like:

KP+Johnson for Wall+Wood

Houston saves money and gets a unicorn to show around. Before the injury, Wood was playing like KP should. Wall brings that secondary facilitator we miss and JRich+Wall would be an excellent two way guard pair. I guess one of THJ or Brunson becomes redundant and we can trade him for a PF.

Wall-JRich-Luka-Kleber-Wood is one serious unit with Brunson-THJ-DFS-Powell-WCS from the bench.

The only thought that comes to mind is....that's it??

The Mavs don't have one of those, but we do have a bunch of other pieces that can add up to the same sort of value.

Drummond excerpt from ESPN:

The challenge is matching salary to get him there via trade, as my colleague Bobby Marks noted on Twitter, given Drummond is making making $28.8 million in the final season of a five-year contract.
Take the Toronto Raptors, who have a hole at starting center where Aron Baynes (Drummond's former backup in Detroit) has struggled this season. Baynes, whose $7.35 million salary for 2021-22 is non-guaranteed, is Toronto's largest expiring contract besides the $31.5 million salary of six-time All-Star Kyle Lowry. Trading Lowry for Drummond is a non-starter, meaning the Raptors would have to include one of their younger players under long-term contract to match salaries.

Similar obstacles make it difficult if not impossible to send Drummond to the center-needy Nets (who have missed Allen since dealing him as part of their trade for James Harden) and Portland Trail Blazers (who hope to get Jusuf Nurkic back before too long, making this a temporary need).
The one contending team that can easily add salary is the Boston Celtics, who hold a $28.5 million trade exception from the sign-and-trade sending Gordon Hayward to the Charlotte Hornets. But even if the Celtics thought Drummond was the best use of their exception after adding former Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson in free agency, his salary doesn't quite fit.

Boston would have to get there by acquiring a player making a similar salary (Otto Porter Jr. of the Chicago Bulls would work) using the exception and then flipping him for Drummond -- a move the NBA might not be inclined to allow, depending how quickly the two trades occurred in sequence.

Given those challenges, Cleveland's best hope of trading Drummond would probably be for expiring contracts similar to the ones the Cavaliers sent to the Pistons last February. Unfortunately for Cleveland, there are fewer such albatross contracts on the books now that most of the deals signed in the free-spending summer of 2016 have concluded.
Perhaps the Bulls would be willing to swap Porter for Drummond with frontcourt starters Wendell Carter Jr. and Lauri Markkanen currently sidelined. Or the San Antonio Spurs might view Drummond as an upgrade on LaMarcus Aldridge, slumping amidst injuries at age 35. But it's unlikely those deals would offer the Cavaliers anything much better than the distant second-round pick they gave up to get Drummond.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 02-15-2021

Mavs are still playing really well even if they did lose a close game to a good (albeit injured) Blazers team.

As much as I'd like to trade KP for someone better, realistically that's not going to happen any time soon. He just needs to play better.

So with that in mind I still think the Mavs need to be looking for an additive trade like Gallo where they could get a significant piece without giving up a current top 7 player. I think Brunson's emergence is significant and will help down the stretch. Collectively this team needs to play better defense.

I wonder what type of return Cleveland might be looking for in a trade. A Schwartz double-dip of Drummond for Powell/Johnson would be an interesting twist.

Evidently Blake Griffin hasn't dunked a basketball in a game in over a year.   That's just sad.   He was such a freak when he was young.

Griffin would be an interesting addition to our big man rotation, even in his current dilapidated state.

If you could get him for like nothing, ie JJ + Powell that would be an easy decision. He would likely start next to KP and we would just see what happens.

For Detroit if they buy him out they will have to eat that last year of his deal I presume. I am not sure how PO's are handled in this situation. If they become guaranteed if waived (which seems like they would?) then having Powell vs just dead money would be an advantage for Detroit.

Any trade involving Brunson that does not net an All Star caliber player is giving him away
Trading Brunson for a PG that is 35 years old making 30 million is giving him away.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 02-15-2021

What will prob happen is that the team will bow down to the agent and buy out Griffin. Then he will go join a superteam bc that's what always happens.

2021 Blake Griffin

Combine this with a $39 million dollar player option next year, I think I know why Detroit will have to buy him out.

I'm not a fan of the proposed trade to net Lowery that includes JB, but it's hardly giving him away.

Even if Lowery isn't as good as he once was and is in his declining years, his experience while still being able to play on this team would be good for the development of all our young guys. JJB was a good go to for experience, but the younguns never got to see first hand his play being able to back the words up. I think the two are very important to have in a mentor type.
