RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 02-09-2021 (02-09-2021, 12:07 PM)omahen Wrote: I am sure. Look at Fox, who got the max extension That's good to know, if only because it adds another guaranteed year of Luka. This summer is still the only summer they have to live in a non-maxed Luka world, unfortunately. This can easily be solved by signing an extension. (02-09-2021, 12:10 PM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: I think Brunson on court value for the Mavs is bigger than his trade value. That is great. But, how will you upgrade the team? We have the expiring contracts. Which assets will you attach to them to get a good player? Or do you think current team is perfect and just needs time to gel? RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - dirkfansince1998 - 02-09-2021 (02-09-2021, 12:15 PM)omahen Wrote: That is great. But, how will you upgrade the team? We have the expiring contracts. Which assets will you attach to them to get a good player? Or do you think current team is perfect and just needs time to gel? Just talking about asset management... Value for the Mavs: Brunson > future picks Trade value: future picks > Brunson My overall approach really hasn´t changed. Resign/extend THJ. Resign Richardson. Use Johnson + picks to improve the roster. Go over the cap (hope that Cuban is willing to pay luxury tax). I don´t think the team is as bad as it looks right now. I also don´t think that they are only one piece away. Let them develop some chemistry (through continuity) and try to add one more legit rotation guy (best case above average starter, worst case another fringe starter/good bench player) without touching the current core. I also don´t think that they are only one piece away. This is very level-headed and rational. I think it's probably the fastest way to get out of this funk, too. All in all, a fairly ideal approach, imo. Having said that, if a difference maker is being sold as the deadline, I'm willing to deviate from the above wildly, as I'm sure the Mavs (and you) are. The Mavs are buyers for the foreseeable future, not sellers, so it's really up to the sellers to determine what they want from this roster when crafting a deal. If a team is dangling something great, and through the course of discussions it's revealed that they like Brunson/Kleber, the Mavs can't really counter with "can I interest you in a Burke/Powell package?" RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - omahen - 02-09-2021 (02-09-2021, 12:34 PM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Trade value: future picks > Brunson I don't agree with this. Brunson has higher value because he can be used in a trade with any team. Rebuilding or contender. The only thing that matters is how much the trade partner values him. Teams like Atlanta, Toronto or Clippers would value Brunson way above any pick. Chicago needs a PG, so does Orlando. Teams like Atlanta, Toronto or Clippers would value Brunson way above any pick. Chicago needs a PG, so does Orlando. Atlanta with Rondo, Dunn and Young? Toronto with Lowry and Van Vleet? Clippers need a PG but they probably prefer a veteran. Also think that they would prefer a pick. They have even less future picks than the Mavs. Orlando and Chicago are the two teams that make sense. They also have players that might be of interest for the Mavs but personally I am not as high on OPJ or Gordon. Won´t even mention Lavine because he is worth more than any combination of picks + Brunson the Mavs could offer. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - BasketballJones41 - 02-09-2021 3 team deal Bulls: Brunson Wolves: James Johnson, Iwundu, & Mavs future 2nd Mavs: Markkanen & Rubio Luka/Rubio/Terry J-rich/Burke Finney/Hardaway/Green Markkanen/Maxi Porzingis/Powell/WCS/Boban RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - SleepingHero - 02-09-2021 (02-09-2021, 02:16 PM)BasketballJones41 Wrote: 3 team deal I don't know if the Bulls would be so ready to give up on Markkanen (and if they did I don't think they'd settle for just Brunson), but I sure do like him. If the Mavs could snag 2 great rotation players for just a Brunson, a 2nd, and spare parts? That's a asset management. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 02-09-2021 If Brunson puts up 50/40/90 for the whole year, he might get a big deal but no one thinks that's going to happen. If he goes back down to his career numbers, he's a Maxi or Powell level contract IMO. He doesnt have the perceived upside of guys like Fultz that get bigger money. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 02-09-2021 I have no idea what the trade value of these things is: Brunson DFS Josh Green 2022 first round pick I'd be comfortable combining any and all of those things for a significant long term piece. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 02-09-2021 (02-09-2021, 05:26 PM)jesusshuttlesworth82 Wrote: I have no idea what the trade value of these things is: I just don't think we'd like what we got back and it would probably be more like a short-term piece. There might be a few exceptions. Rather than give up assets for a short term piece or a lateral move I would be good if we could cash in the JJ chip for a good player that is overpaid. Another scorer off the bench would be my preference. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 02-09-2021 There are many guys out there. Mavs would be punting on FA but I don't think there are a lot of guys worth above the MLE in FA anyways. I would rather Mavs try to add a piece now and keep THJ + J Rich. One name is Gallo who the Hawks are paying a lot of money to play 17 mpg off the bench at 10 points a clip. And this is with Bog injured, like how many minutes are the Hawks going to have to spread around once everyone is healthy? Mavs would have a lot more use for Gallo. I think JJ + a young asset would be good for them. They have to pay Trae and presumably Collins. I am not sure why they need Gallo around. For the Mavs Gallo would add much needed scoring. We need 1-2 more starters. I agree with this. Or...and I am not saying fire coaches...try something(new offense/defense scheme wise?) that proves this core should be unmodified. Something is wrong on defense. No playmakers on offense. (outside of Luka) I dont think having Luka, JRich, Brunson/Burke(and Jame Johnson when he plays) as the only guys able to dribble on a roster gets it done. You need more guys ABLE and WILLING to put the ball on the floor and create on offense. I predict Gallo or Collins will be gone before next season. Aside from signing Trae, they also have Hunter on the horizon. From what I have read, most everyone (including Atl. folks) think Collins will be gone if he warrants the max. TDL should be telling...if he stays, it likely means they think they can keep him at the max as I think he will get from someone. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 02-09-2021 John Collins is so the perfect fit here, and it seems pretty clear than he and Atlanta are both negotiating in such a way that leaves the door open for his potential exit. Having said that, I don’t know why Atlanta would trade him away during what they believe is a playoff season for them without getting something great in return, even if they’re 99% sure he’s gone. I think they either trade him somewhere at the deadline for a package the Mavs can’t match or they hope his RFA status helps them hold onto him at a price they can live with, somehow. I can see the Mavs prying him away with a Max offer next summer if ATL doesn’t want to match, but that seems like a big risk, planning wise. Now, if we get there without coming across a more stable opportunity first, he’d absolutely be my big free agency swing. Lowry, not so much. GREAT player. Bringing him here would be a waste of time for both he and the team, imo. |
