RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - dirkfansince1998 - 01-23-2021 What about an Oladipo trade expansion: Johnson + Powell + Iwundu (or Terry, maybe Green if the Mavs need to add value) + unprotected 1st + 2 2nds --> Oladipo + Tucker + McLemore Rockets might want to wait a little bit longer before they embrace the tank but it is going to happen. Mavs gamble on Oladipos health and add more depth/shooting. Rockets bet against KP´s and Oladipo´s health and hope for a high unprotected pick. In a follow up trade they could try turn Johnson´s expiring into even more draft picks in exchange for a bad longterm contract. Mavs gamble on KP´s and Oladipo´s health. It´s a risk but if both can stay healthy they turn into a true contender. Oladipo gets a new contract in the summer. Cuban pays luxury tax and resigns THJ + Richardson as well. If Tucker is still producing he gets the tax payer MLE in the summer. Oladipo/Richardson/Doncic/Tucker/Porzingis Brunson/THJ/DFS/Kleber/WCS Burke/McLemore/Green/ /Boban Terry/Hinton/Bey Positive: Improved starting five and best depth chart in the league. Negative: Injury-prone max players and no way to make any big roster changes in the coming years. So far it looks like no one is willing to give up a 1st for Tucker. Oladipo was traded for Levert. One of the few guys with an even bigger injury/health risk. Combining both in a package might be the best option if they prefer 1st round talent over a 2nd round haul. Yeah, you might be right. I'm just speculating, but I just have a feeling a contender is going to want Tucker at the TDL. He's exactly the kind of "last piece" that could help a few teams at that time. It's weird right now because so many 1sts have changed hands recently that there simply aren't that many that can be traded, but I feel like a late first might be the going rate at the TDL just for Tucker, if he's healthy. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - cow - 01-23-2021 Getting off of Powell's contract would probably cost you a FRP by itself. Gordons contract is worse than Powells. Only way I would take Gordon is if Powell is in the deal for sure. His last year is not guaranteed or fully guaranteed so its basically a 2 year deal. He is already 32 so getting long in the tooth a little bit. I would do something like Powell + Boban for Gordon, then find another center who can provide some interior defense. If you did get Gordon you would have some THJ insurance in case he is too expensive to retain or you might be able to flip THJ for something else. Gordon definitely gives Mavs some extra playmaking. Lineup would be: Luka, Rich, DFS, Maxi, KP With main subs being: Brunson, Burke, Gordon, THJ, JJ. Rick would also have the option to put gordon in the starting lineup with DFS coming off the bench. I like that top 10 a lot. Houston might actually do a salary dumping deal for Gordon. Really considering what you are getting he is a good value in that he gives you that extra reliable scorer the Mavs need. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 01-24-2021 (01-23-2021, 11:41 PM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Don´t think so. Gordons contract is worse than Powells. I don't think his contract is worse. I am pretty sure his last year is not guaranteed at all which means he will be waived then. So you basically have 2 years of both players with Gordon having more money on his deal and being older. That being said at this point Powell's role at this point is being diminished to maybe a 10-15 mpg big off the bench. Gordon, even at his age would be an important rotation player that you could even start. I think Houston might be willing to dump him in a straight salary deal which to me is worth it for the Mavs. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - Fuerza1 - 01-25-2021 I thought you guys were talking about Aaron Gordon and got confused. Eric Gordon is a negative asset and serves little purpose here. THJ already fills his role and is younger and might come cheaper; if you're not a THJ guy, you shouldn't be an Eric Gordon guy either, imo. I honestly think most of the pieces are in place right now, and a trade is not needed unless it's for an obvious upgrade. Once the team is at full strength, the Mavs could be an elite team this year but we will see how the rotation shakes out. Personally, I think the starters going forward should be Brunson, JRich, Luka, Kleber/DFS, and KP. Then the bench as Burke, THJ, Green, DFS/Kleber, WCS and some Iwundu/Bey mixed in there. Erase Powell's and Johnson's minutes. Hand Boban and Terry the pom-pom's. Lets see how far this group goes then make the necessary adjustments next offseason. So far, I am loving the defensive mentality, easily the best defensive effort from a Maverick team since Justin Anderson replaced Parsons in the starting lineup for 10 games or so. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 01-25-2021 I would only trade for Gordon if Mavs are getting something else out of it like moving Powell. To me if you move DP for EG then you are paying EG the difference of 7, 8 mil respectively for the next 2 years and getting a much more useful player in return. The Rockets would be getting cap savings + a rotation player that Silas has experience with. Yes Gordon has some redundancy with THJ but I don't see what's wrong with having both on the roster. It gives Mavs some insurance if THJ does end up leaving for more money. I like Dipo a lot but I think his price tag will be super high. There is a scenario in which you could keep all of Rich, THJ and add an MLE player on top of having Gordon already on the roster. Mavs wouldn't have that 3rd star but would have great depth 1-10. Luka, Rich, DFS, Maxi, KP likely starters. Brunson, Gordon, THJ off the bench scoring and then you find a full MLE big to replace the previous committee of Powell, WCS and Boban. JJ could return on some kind of deal considering you have his bird rights. Mavs could run up close to the tax line, I haven't done the math. But basically my thinking is if you have Gordon, THJ + full MLE that's better than whatever you are going to get in under-the-cap FA. Ya sure we can try to get someone better but that's easier said than done. I am sure Donnie will exhaust all options. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - Fuerza1 - 01-25-2021 (01-25-2021, 05:07 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: I would only trade for Gordon if Mavs are getting something else out of it like moving Powell. Adding Gordon gets in the way of Green's and possibly Brunson's development. Gordon is also a garbage defender. We still need defense from the second unit. Powell, who I want dumped, for all his flaws still has a locker room presence and will probably sign the vet min here once his current contract runs out. |
