The Mavs should sign Mike Tobey to be their center.

Really?

Out of all current NBA centers, to whom is Mike Tobey most comparable?

Cody Zeller maybe?
But Toby hits 3s at a good rate

Just need to find guys in bad situations.

If Lloyd Pierce never gets fired (what a strange hire by Carlisle), you can probably get a package of John Collins/Cam Reddish for "dirty cheap".

Now the Hawks came within a few games of playing for the NBA title and Cam Reddishhas  been shooting 50/40/100 throughout this play-off run with some top defense.

So did the players change or just the situation?

That´s the argument for players from places like Sacramento, Cleveland, Orlando or Chicago. Hell it might be the best argument to keep Porzingis, that we have been such a messy organization ourselves.

I abdicated my throne and went into exile. I've since returned.

Can't wait to see KP 2.0 next season.

Now KP island is a lawless land, filled with few. The resources are plenty though and we have enough to survive for years

Mike Tobey's on-court chemistry with Luka is enough to merit him some consideration from the Mavs, I think.

Haha. I´d still trade him. Just saying that if you want to make a case, the dysfunctional structure in all areas of basketball operations is a pro Porzingis argument. Hoping that under a new unified leadership structure, the relationship between Doncic/Porzingis can be improved and the productivity of Porzingis increases. I think Carlisle is partly too blame, especially for the chemistry, but that does not eliminate the worrisome injury history.

If the Cavs offer us Sexton, Nance and Prince, I would not hesitate for a split second. I think our team would improve dramatically with such a trade.

I'm a believer in the possibility that this is the case.  I also think another creator who moves KP down a notch in the pecking order while simultaneously giving him better opportunities to play to his strengths can help.

However, you are certainly right about the injury thing.  It will be a threat to every season as long as he is here.  If someone offers anywhere near fair value, you take it.

And we arrive at what is fair value? Tongue

I think it also depends what your plan is. If you sign a DeRozan or/and Lowry now, you are basically finishing the roster. You got to keep Porzingis.

If you want a shot at Beal or Lavine next summer, I think you trade Porzingis now. You take the injury risk out of the equation. Upgrade your young talent and maximize all your assets.

Worth a mention that Furkan Korkmaz had a strong FIBA tournament for Turkey as their #1 option. Might be an indicator he´s ready for a bigger role than Philly can offer him.

He could be a great S&T option. Korkmaz +28th pick for Kleber. Other options could include Korkmaz + Hill + 28th for THJ.

Crucial will be that you can actually use our older players (Kleber, THJ) to sign players you want (anyway), but maximize our assets in the process. Also decision-time on Brunson.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Chicagojk - 07-04-2021

What is a good # for resigning Brunson that can be counted as a win win?   Maybe if Brunson bets on himself, he could have a bigger payday a year from now.  And maybe with a team without a top 5 player playing his position.

But if the Mavs decide to keep him, I think extending him is the best bet right?   Would 4 for 40 with a player option in year 4 be fair?   Brunson may sacrifice some $, but turning down 40 million in your pocket is tough when you are a second round pick and have made around 4 million so far in the NBA.    I also think 10-12 million for Brunson still keeps him as an attractive asset in the event that a bigger trade came about down the road.   I think he would be more willing to sign if he got good vibes from the new coaching staff with a potential bigger role too.

Maybe it was pure coincidence that Cuban was in Philly and was pictured with Jalen at Villanova, but it raised my eyebrow.    I would like Brunson back, but I thought he was a prime candidate for Mark to move this offseason.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Hypermav - 07-04-2021

I like the idea of DeRozan with KP and Luka.  Get rid of Boban (gasp) and Powell and get a better defensive minded rim roller.  Lets see what Kidd can do with KP for half a year and if doesn't improve, then there is always the trade deadline.  Grab a Batum type and I think the Mavs are close.
