They would, but not with 2 unprotected FRP.

I don't know why you keep mentioning RoCo. Portland didn't pay two unprotected picks for him

One of the things that worries me about guys like Sexton is the immeasurable effect of the messed up NBA reffing. He leaves the team where he’s the best player on a bad team, where he gets the benefit of most of the team-friendly whistles. And he comes here, where they all go to Luka. Does he perform at the same level in those situations? See KP; Kemba; Love; etc.

what yall think of this

DAL Sends KP to POR
PHI Sends Simmons to POR
POR Sends CJ to PHI
POR sends LILLARD to DAL

Add 3 first rounders from Dallas and a pick and player from Charlotte for KP and I think you’re onto something.

Man...I'm already ready for the Lillard trade proposals to Dallas to be over with.  Can we fast forward two months?

RE: AROUND the NBA: McCollum trade "probable" | Lillard unhappy - Tyler - 06-28-2021

I understand that the KP doomers will ridicule this idea, but I could see something like this benefiting both teams:

KP/DFS for Wiseman/Wiggins/#7

KP is a massive upgrade over Wiseman (especially in their system and on their timeline) and would make their 5-out lineup as potent as ever. DFS is also IMO a perfect complement to their other star power, as he plays great defense and hits corner 3s with no drama. He would step right into Wiggins' role at a tiny fraction of the cost. Add it up, and I'd argue that the deal improves Golden State right away and also saves them money (no small thing with their luxury tax situation). Thus the additional pick.

Dallas would start Wiseman at center. Wiggins would be the natural SF assuming he doesn't continue his career arc as the contract ballast in yet another deal. Maybe they keep the pick, or maybe they cash it in for another player via trade. But either way, that's the type of deal that helps move the team forward while building up the asset chest.

I'd be all over this, if Luka was on board. If he says "win now", we can't do this deal.

You're going to have to pry my DFS from my cold, dead hands. I'd like to think that if you go to the trouble of murdering me to make a Mavericks trade the payoff would be better than Wiseman, Wiggins and whomever the Mavs will mistakingly choose at #7.

RE: AROUND the NBA: McCollum trade "probable" | Lillard unhappy - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 06-28-2021

I liked that GSW idea last year but I dont think Dallas has the patience to wait on Wiseman and the #7 pick to develop.  Only if they know they can flip those assets for something significant.

Siakam played with two great ball handlers FVV and Lowry. If he was lead ballhandler it certainly explains his bad efficiency.

btw, this same Toronto team was top of East a year ago. Same as team performance was worse, it was also Siakams performance. So it Toronto bad because Siakam was not good or was Siakam bad because Toronto wasn't good?

On the other hand - is Wiggins good because GSW is good or is GSW good because Wiggins is good?

Always possibility for that. I bet Portland would welcome those two assets more than KP Smile One could aslo argue that Wiggins basically reproduces what KP gave us so Wiseman/pick are just the bonus.

I would hate that move and I don't see the Mavs doing it either.  It will be years before Wiseman is ready to be a starting center (if ever), especially on a contender, and I don't see the Mavs trading for a pick unless they already have a deal in place to move it.  The clock is ticking regarding Luka and I think they are in win now mode.

Only if you then flip:

Wiseman + Brunson + Richardson + #7 to Indy for Brogdon + Turner + #12
Wiggins + whoever taken at #12 in SNT DeRozen

Brogdon
DDR
Luka
Kleiber
Turner

Sorry I blew up your trade, Tyler

Wiseman I think isn't very good which is a probably I'd like to not inherit. I do believe GSW has the ammunition to get a bigger deal than KP for Wiggins + picks and maybe Wiseman (including Dame even).

To me KP for Wiggins maybe is possible if the Warriors strike out on bigger deals but I am not positive Mavs want Wiggins.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StepBackJay - 06-28-2021

Is there a world where Mavs try to just sell off every non-Luka player that's worth anything and almost completely reshape the roster in FA/trades?

Potential assets:
  • KP - big IF, right now looks like a negative asset but you never know
  • DFS - I believe his contract and production would make him worth a first round pick
  • Maxi - Even with his injury I think his contract, high 3%, overall defensive reputation would make him worth a pick (Boston with that large TPE is a team I am looking at)
  • Powell - might be able to get 2nds for him. I like him as a rotational player, just thinking you could probably sell him at this point
  • Terry, Green - probably worth something but you'd be selling low. Green might still be worth a late first.
  • J Rich - probably a small asset if he opts in, maybe a 2nd round pick
  • WCS - small asset, maybe a 2nd rounder
  • Brunson - one of our best pieces bc his salary is so small. Worth at least 1 first round pick including the Mavs own pick if they wanted to get it back from NYK so that they could trade future picks
  • JJR - in the right situation maybe you a 2nd round pick. Boston for example has a trade exception they could use (as an example).

Would there be a chance that a new GM lines up some trades and if they find the right FA they pull the trigger on some outgoing trades to clear space. There's also the possibility you just try to build a warchest of some picks and replace some of these role guys with FA's.

What about Isiah Hartenstein? I think he would be a good backup big.

My big draft hot take a few years ago was that Hartenstein would be better than Lauri.
I may wind up being right after being so so wrong.

I really like what he showed last year
