Evan Fournier expected to stick with Boston or is he someone Dallas would go after?

It's not that I think he's a bad player, it's just that I don't find him to be a needle mover. If any acquisition is not an instant needle mover, I'd prefer they be YOUNG. I don't think the Mavs are close enough to where they are 1-3 Reggie Jacksons away from competing.

I think he fixes alot of the offensive issues. But yeah he's not going to be a star. But I think he could be a needle mover with other moves. Need a guard that can shoot 3s and handle the ball and attack? Reggie Jackson does that. But we need alot more than that overall on the roster.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Branduil - 06-21-2021

I mean, trade Reggie Jackson and JRich and the Mavs are the ones in the WCF right now. Obviously he's not a superstar or anything but he's proven he can be the 3rd or even 2nd guy on a very good team, in the right circumstances. Dumping JRich and splitting the free agent money between Jackson and THJ would certainly be a start in improving the talent level of this team.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - duboh7 - 06-21-2021

I'm with cjeter's approach to replacing JRich with Jackson, through some means.  It would definitely create a stronger guard rotation (especially if THJ can be kept within the salary limitations).  Another thought -- can Warren be poached/traded for from the Pacers? This would offer an overall improvement at the #3 (if we could move DoDo to backup/specialty defense minutes).

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Chicagojk - 06-21-2021

I think it is natural to focus on big ideas and big names when talking about free agency, but Dallas also needs to hit on the smaller moves.   Where would the Clippers be with Batum and Reggie Jackson?  When the Clippers signed both, there were a lot of people who thought both were done.   One interesting measurement that really surprised me is that Reggie has a 7' wingspan.  Van Gundy mentioned it on the Lowe Post podcast and I thought for sure he misspoke.   Nope, it appears legit.

Richaun Holmes made less than 5 million this year.  I could have sworn it was reported a year or two ago that the Mavs liked the player.   The Mavs need to hit on players in this range.  Even it is just for a season or two.

Improving the top end of the roster is my main focus now, but we can't forget about the guys in the 3-8 million range.   Especially if we sacrifice our supposed good depth for a higher end player.

Man, we just don't know.

Luka and Cuban are constants, but everything else has changed.

Was the Mavericks' rumored interest because of Donnie? Cuban? Voulgaris? Carlisle?
If I had to guess, I'd guess Donnie, but we just don't know anything anymore.

So the list of stars likely to be traded (or big names, if you prefer) is extending by the day:
KP
McCollum
Simmons
Kemba (already traded)

Plus, there's always at least one surprise.

It would not surprise me if Brooklyn traded Kyrie for depth this offseason.

This would be a very astute move. OR...maybe they trade him for Westbrook???

I would say there is absolutely no way that is happening.   KD is the real General Manager in Brooklyn, and Kyrie is the Assistant General Manager.    They'll just run it back next year, because they would have steamrolled through the East if just 2 of their big 3 were healthy.   If all 3 are healthy, they probably don't lose a game in the playoffs.    Biggest move they make is maybe doing a SnT with Dimwiddie.

I would be shocked if that happened.   Brooklyn didn't really get a chance to see their big 3 play together on the court hardly at all this year and they were still a few plays away form possibly making the finals.

Plus, the whole KD and Kryie were a packaged deal and things would get extremely messy if they traded Kyrie without buy in from KD.  And he wouldn't give it now.

Regardless what happens the rest of the year, the Nets are the substantial favorites to win the title next year imo.

I don't know if it will get messy trading Kyrie away.

Kyrie is a headache. The amount of offcourt attention he brings can affect any team. Sure him and KD are friends, but I think KD would rather win than hangout (who knows though?).

There is no doubt in my mind if BRK had a better bench this year KD would've led them to a chip. Imagine if they had 2 more high quality role players like a Danny Green/Nic Batum/Reggie Jackson/Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Though I'm sure you can make the same argument that if Kyrie was healthy BRK would've won anyways, which may be true. Just if it were me, I'd trade Kyrie while he's coming off the best season of his career and be done with that headache.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - F Gump - 06-21-2021

I agree that the Mavs aren't very far from moving up the ladder a bit. And I see lots of ideas for adding this middle-value player or that, to bump up their odds.

But I don't think any of them really matter that much. In fact, I think they are cart before horse, although "a bit better" is certainly better than running in place.

To me, all that REALLY matters is finding another top level 2-way player, a difference-making wing (because that's where today's game is played), to go with Luka. They thought KP was that guy - is he? If not, go get him somewhere. Use whatever you have, to get that one guy.

In comparison, no other issue (or target) is even close to being that important.

And if Cuban can't get that done (history tells us he can't), he needs to hire the guy that can and get out of the way. Because, on a somewhat regular basis, we see the top GMs making aggressive moves that get something like that done, and that work out.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - cjeter24 - 06-22-2021

Possible big win for the Mavs and other teams with Bulls losing pick in Lotto. They have basically can sign one player in FA to get better and are much further away than that. Bodes well that Lavine will be on the market and looking to switch teams with another Bulls mediocre season. They seemed like a team that was 100% trading that pick if they had kept it.

Two possible teams for KP deals in Orlando and GS kept their picks (Orlando got the Chicago pick as mentioned).

Western Conference teams did not jump up. All the top picks stayed east except for Rockets pick. In a top loaded draft that's big.

Hornets and Spurs also didn't move up and are logical KP trade destinations.

KP trades became more feasible IMO.

Remember for like a week we were like "we don't know who the GM will be so we don't know if Mavs still like player X."

Ya turns out we do know bc the new boss looks the same as the old boss (for better or worse).

I think we can resume thinking any player old MBT liked still applies (Collins as.one example).

I don't think that's the case at all tbh. Even if Finley handles all basketball decisions he'll have radically different likes and dislikes than Carlisle, Donnie and Bob. Doesn't mean they will be any better or worse.

Shoot forgot about early bird rights. He'll get the league average which will be like 10 mill... So Reggie Jackson could be back in LAC. Batum gone tho.
